Downtown Portland Branch Closing 02/27/15 With deep regrets we are announcing the permanent closure of our Downtown Portland branch, which has been in operation since 1960. The last day of business at this location is Friday, Feb. 27 . th The decision to close the branch was not taken lightly. For years the majority of the members that regularly used this branch were employees of the Oregonian Publishing Company. As this company has downsized and relocated away from the branch, transaction volume, number of loans made and new member growth at this location have greatly declined. In fact, at the time of the merger almost ten years ago which created Oregonians Credit Union, this branch was the busiest branch in our system of branches. It now has the lowest transaction volume of our eight branches. With such low volume, which is projected to continue its decline, this branch is no longer able to support the operating costs that go along with running a branch. A decline in branch transaction volumes is being experienced at most credit union and bank branches. This is due to the acceptance of online and mobile banking. There is also the increase in direct deposit of paychecks and retirement funds and the broader use of bill pay systems and debit card transactions. OFCU members now apply for half of the loans they request by using our online systems. People just do not have the need to frequent branches like they used to. Experts predict that financial institutions will significantly reduce their branch networks and shrink the square footage of existing branches over the next decade. We remind you that OFCU offers many ways to access your accounts in the Portland area. We have 6 branches in the Portland Metro area. Our closest branches to downtown are: • NE Portland Branch: 336 NE 20th Ave, Portland, OR 97232 • St. Johns Branch: 7825 North Lombard Street, Portland, OR 97203 OFCU belongs to the Co-Op Shared Branching Network: You may access your Oregonians account at the following locations that are just a few blocks away from the Broadway branch: • Unitus CU: 1300 SW 6th Ave, Portland, OR 97201 • TwinStar CU: 1510 SW 6th Ave, Portland, OR 97201 There are dozens of other shared branch locations in the area. Visit our website to search for locations. As mentioned in this letter, OFCU members continue to reduce their visits to our branches. Most are increasing the usage of the following methods of accessing their accounts: • Online Banking • Mobile Banking Apps • Mobile Check Deposit • Online Bill Pay • Telephone Banking • Direct Deposit If you have questions on how to continue using your Oregonians CU account, visit OregoniansCU.com/Broadway, email us at [email protected] or call us at 503.239.5336. This can cause huge problems for family members that are left behind. Have you started a family or experienced a death of a loved one? Any one of these life-altering events could mean that your beneficiary designations are no longer up to date. That could create major headaches for your loved ones someday. Beneficiaries are individuals or entities that you name to receive certain assets when you die. Many people do not realize the significance of beneficiary designations. For example, if an account at the credit union does not have a joint owner for beneficiary listed on it, all the money in that account is on hold until Beneficiary designations are easy to complete. All you need to do is fill out a beneficiary designation for each suffix you have on your account. The only information you need to know is the beneficiary(ies) name and relationship to you. It is that simple! If you are not sure if you have completed a beneficiary designation for your account, just stop in or call the credit union to ask. We would be happy to look it up for you. Not only will you have peace of mind, but your loved ones will thank you for it as well. Oregonians CU Online Mortgage Center Apply for a Home Loan without Getting off the Couch!
