Hope everyone is keeping up with your
New Year’s resolution(s). I am a bit late
getting the first edition of The Valley
Enterprise to press but hopefully I will
catch up quickly. The GMAHS Board of
Trustees wants to wish all a very happy
and healthy new year. We look forward
to an exciting 2015.
Election of Officers for 2015 was held at
the January 14, 2015 meeting.
President: Nancy Meyer
V. President: Jo Ann Weigel
Secretary: Ken Waeber
Treasurer: Dick Nordloh
As most of you know, Nancy Meyer is
part owner of Row House Gallery and
brings a wealth of new ideas to the
table. We look forward to working with
her, and I know the entire membership
will support her efforts to keep GMAHS
growing into the future.
Membership
As of December 31, 2014 our membership
stands at 164. This is the highest Donna
Amann can remember it being. She thanks
all involved with soliciting friends and
neighbors to join. A Welcome New
Members Tea will be hosted at Promont on
February 8th to welcome our newest
members. We are excited about meeting
these new members and look forward to
working with them in the future.
REMINDER: 2015 dues for January and
February are now due. You should be have
received your reminder. If by some chance
you did not, please contact Donna at
513/248-0324.
Raffle Winner
An original artwork entitled Promont
Deer was raffled on December 20th,
and the winner was Brian Wikoff. Brian
and his wife, Karen, recently purchased
their new home and are great
supporters of the GMAHS.
Nancy Meyer, Row House Gallery was
responsible for obtaining the beautiful
colored pencil drawing from artist Margi
Hopkins and the GMAHS is $900 richer.
SIGN UP at Kroger!
Kroger Co. is offering a rewards
program. Go to:
kroger.com/communityrewards
and use the number 41195. A portion
of your spending will be donated to
GMAHS. An easy way to help!
A new activity for GMAHS is the formation
of the Clermont
County Historic
Quilt Registry. For a small fee, a
quilt rendered by a Clermont County
resident (or their ancestors) or a quilt
brought to Clermont County prior to 1900
can be entered in the registry. Each quilt is
photographed and will receive a certificate
of registration and a small patch to pin on
the quilt. The wonderful crazy quilt owned
by GMAHS will have the honor of being #1
in the registry.

Art Affaire on the Move
We’re excited to announce that Art Affaire is
moving to Main Street in historic Milford.
Held annually the fourth Saturday in
September, this year’s Art Affaire will
celebrate a new location and a 10-year
milestone anniversary on September 26,
2015.
Jo Ann Weigel
“Art Affaire has been growing each year”,
commented GMAHS administrator, Donna
Amann. “The grounds at Promont were no
longer suitable for the number of artists and
visitors. Moving to Main Street will allow us to
expand as the event continues to accelerate
in popularity within the local, and regional,
communities.”
Website:
www.milfordhistory.net
The primary goal of Art Affaire has been (and
continues to be) to raise money for the
Greater Milford Area Historical Society
(GMAHS) and it ongoing community
programming. In addition, GMAHS provides a
venue for artists to display their work and
offers the community a well-loved cultural
event.

“What an enjoyable, relaxing day
spent having tea at the Promont
House yesterday. Being with friends
in such a classic, beautifully
decorated home where history
surrounded you made the Christmas
season very special.
Can’t think of one thing to complain
about and will certainly recommend
this experience to others”. ~Aurilea

Founded 1967
Donations Made
During 2014, GMAHS received
many nice donations from
families linked to Promont.
Among them, late 1800
Victorian toys that were
produced in Cincinnati. Suzanne
Zesch found the name of these
toys in Aleathia Pattison’s
diaries.
Two beautiful paintings by
Edward Fern, Milford artist, were
donated by Vera Hodges. They
are portraits of Ralph and Harry
Hodges in their WWII military
uniforms.
Other donations include:
A mourning umbrella
Eyeglasses
Sock and glove stretchers
Linens to be used during our
teas
Spool cabinet used in Wund’s
Dept. Store (16 Main St.) prior to
WWII up until the 1950s.
Small writing box and other
small items.
New Speakers
Bureau
Diana Kuhnell and Donna
Amann will be kicking off our
new Speakers Bureau with talks
in March, April and June.
Proceeds benefit GMAHS. Diana
will do a presentation on Quilts,
and Donna will talk on buttons
and the trees of Promont.
Do you have a collection or story
you would like to share. We
would love to add you to our
growing list of topics available
for clubs or other groups
needing a speaker. Call Donna
at 248-0324 if interested.
Tenth Night
Party
At Promont
The Ohio River Valley Chapter of the
Victorian Society of America visited
Promont on January 4, 2015 for a
Dickens of a Good Time. After touring
Promont, the group (62 plus committee)
had a brief discourse led by Professor
Stuart Blersch in appropriate 1840’s
attire. Discussion was “Fact and Fiction:
The Twelve Days of Christmas.” The
group also enjoyed fabulous
refreshments provided by the Victorian
Society planning committee.
Girl Scout Manners/
Etiquette Tea
January 10, 2015, we had the pleasure
of serving 50 fine young ladies for a Girl
Scout Tea event. The girls were very well
behaved and really enjoyed their special
tea party.
The girls represented several troops in
the West Clermont Service Council.
We hope to make this a regular event at
Promont. Again thanks to the great staff
of “tea ladies.”
2014 Preservation
Awards
The 2014 GMAHS Preservation
Awards were presented to Valley
View Foundation (accepted by
Vanessa Hannah) and the City of
Milford (accepted by Charlene
Hinners) at our annual Christmas
Dinner held on December 4,
2014.
Valley View Foundation
purchased the Gatch property
known as “Arrowhead Farm”.
This property is currently the
home of Milford Pottery, and it
adjoins the existing Valley View
Property. GMAHS is looking
forward to working with Valley
View as it develops plans for this
site development.
Jeff Wright, Milford city manager,
commented, “We are very proud
of Valley View’s latest grant and
its purchase of Arrowhead Farm.
Valley View now offers the
community 190 acres of publicly
accessible and historically
preserved green space. Kudos to
them.”
We will feature the City’s
preservation award in our next
newsletter.
