“Magno Animo - Greatness of Spirit” Newsletter 2015/JAN_V1 Dear Wendywood High Parent/Guardian/Caregiver We extend a warm welcome to all the parents/guardians/caregivers and learners for the academic school year. This year “failure is not an option”. We believe that all learners can learn, and we will continue to create an environment that results in high levels of performance in all areas of school life. We cannot achieve this on our own, hence a need for partnership with you. Please read and take note of the following: New teachers A warm welcome to Mrs Simelane (Life Sciences/NS), Ms Nyota (LO), Ms Se Pillay (LO), Ms Tipedze (Maths), Mrs Zitha (HOD – Accounting/Bus Studies/EMS) and Mr N Naidoo (English). We hope they enjoy being part of Wendywood High School. Important Dates to Diarise School fees School fees for 2015 are R19 450. Parents who pay the fees in full before 31 January will receive a 10% discount. Parents may pay R1 945 per month for 10 months. We are a fee paying school and as such, school fees are necessary for the smooth running of the school. We request that parents prioritise school fees every month. Cell phones and other electronic devices These may not be brought to school. It is in contravention of the Code of Conduct of our school. All confiscated cell phones and electronic devices will be returned only to the parents at the end of the year on payment of a R100 fine. School uniform /Hairstyles Please note that hard-collar shirts are NOT allowed. Blazer is COMPULSORY. Boys may NOT have wax or gel on their hair and hair should be the same length, in the shape of the head. Extra-mural activities 26 January - Prize giving Grade 12 Parents’ Evening 27 January - Grade 11 Parents’ Evening 28 January - Grade 10 Parents’ Evening 29 January - Grade 9 Parents’ Evening 30 January - Inter- House Athletics 02 February - Grade 8 Parents’ Evening 13 February - Valentine’s Day Social 06 March - Talent Show 09 – 23 March - Cycle Exams NB: All parents are expected to attend the Parents’ Evenings as important Grade information will be communicated. Learners whose parents do not come for the Parents’ Evening will be detained until the parents come to school. School times 07h45 – 14h25 07h45 – 13h40 07h45 – 14h00 Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays Wednesdays Fridays NB: 15 minutes may be added to the end of the day from time to time to deal with the problem of littering on the school grounds. Parents will be given a 24-hour notice when this happens. All learners are expected to do at least one sport or cultural activity per term. The sports calendar for Term 1 is available on the school’s website. Academic Support Programme (ASP) We urge parents to make transport arrangements that will allow learners to attend ASP. Textbooks and Stationery By now, ALL learners should have paid for the textbooks. Parents who have not yet paid must do it as soon as possible. The money can be deposited into the school's account and proof of payment sent with the learner in order for text books to be given to the learners. Textbooks and other stationery may be bought from Book Bound, Juta, and PNA and online at Kalahari.com. Late coming and Absenteeism Doctor's and any other appointments should be made for afternoons or weekends, if possible. When absent, learners MUST bring a doctor's note.
