Things to do on arrival

Checklist of things to do on arrival for Exchange & Visiting Students
Semester 2 - 2014/15
Register with the University of Bath
All students must register on-line before they can become a student member of the University of Bath and
use the facilities provided by the University.
Registration On-Line (ROL) involves checking the information which we hold about you and confirming
that it is correct. If you are a Visiting Student (non-exchange), it also involves paying your tuition fees. If
you are a non-EU national or from a non-EU institution, you will also need to attend a Document Review
Session (see below) before you can be fully registered. You will only be able to complete registration after
you have met any conditions stated in your offer of admission letter.
Registration does NOT involve choosing the units you will study. See the section entitled ‘Begin to Attend
Classes and Enrol for Units’ below.
If you have access to the web, we would like you to complete your online registration before the start of
the semester. If this is not possible, you will be able to complete ROL when you arrive in Bath. You will
need your username and password and we will send you instructions in a Registration On-Line (ROL)
message.
Your username and password: You should already have received an e-mail giving you your University of
Bath username and password.
Registration On-Line (ROL) message:

will send you your ROL message by e-mail after you have received an offer of admission and returned your
acceptance (reply) form to us.
If you are a national of any other country, or if your home institution is not in the European Union,
European Economic Area or Switzerland, you will also need to send us a scanned copy of your passport
and visa before we send you your ROL message. Students who will be obtaining Leave to Enter as a
Student Visitor on arrival in the UK need to reply to the e-mail message from [email protected]

If you choose a language as ‘attendance only’: this unit will not appear on your official University
transcript of records, however you will need to attend regularly. If you withdraw, the result will be
recorded as ‘withdrawn’. 6-credit units cannot be chosen as ‘attendance only’.
If you wish to choose a language unit as a 6 credit option, please fill an online form

Get your Library Card and your Student Union Card
Library
The Library building is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week all year round. Staffed services, including the
Issue Desk on Level 2, are available from 9am to 7pm on weekdays – semester time (from 9:30am on
Wednesday), 10am to 5pm at weekends during semesters and 9am to 5pm during vacations.
To find out how to use the Library and make the most of its services we strongly recommend that you visit
The Library webpages at www.bath.ac.uk/library
Getting your library card:
You need to complete Registration On-Line before you can obtain your library card.
-
When you register online you will be asked to upload a photograph for use on your library card. If
you upload an image in advance your card can be pre-printed and be ready for collection in due
course. Pre-printed student cards can be collected from the Issue Desk/Main Counter in the
Library during staffed periods, see above, ‘Library’ section.
-
Alternatively, you can use the library card self-registration booths by using your username and
password. This will enable your photograph to be taken and your details to be recorded. You can
collect your card from the Issue Desk/Main Counter. You may be asked to return to the Desk at a
later time or on the following day.
Combined Library and National Union of Students (NUS) card
Although it is possible to get a single-purpose Library Card, students are normally recommended to get
the joint Library and NUS (National Union of Students) Card.
9
The NUS is a non-political organisation dedicated to the welfare of students, and BUSU is its University of
Bath branch. Most students belong to the NUS, as there are many benefits to being a member (see
www.nus.org.uk/en/about-nus/ for further information). All students may join the NUS for free as the
University of Bath automatically pays the membership fee.
When you Register On-Line, you will notice that the default is for the University to pass your membership
details to the Student Union. This means that you will be able to receive a Combined Library and NUS
Card. If you are happy with this, leave this box ticked. If you do not wish to join the NUS, delete the tick
from the box. You will then receive a Library-only Card.
Computing Services at the University of Bath
Your University username and password will already have been sent to you. You will be asked to
complete registration before the start of your studies. Full access to our IT services will start after you
have completed Registration On-Line (ROL).
Your University of Bath e-mail address will be your University username followed by @bath.ac.uk. If your
username was xyz32, your e-mail address would be [email protected]. Please make sure you check
your Bath e-mail account regularly for incoming mail, as this is the address at which you will be contacted
by University staff.
We provide IT help and advice to students. You can contact us:
- online via our IT Help Form http://www.bath.ac.uk/bucs/help/contact/index.html
- by telephone +44 (0)1225 383535
- face-to-face at our Service Desk in the Library
