Maple Syruping – Tree tapping
Back by popular demand! Join us Saturday, February 14,
9-10:30 a.m. at Kuehn Conservation Area, Earlham to tap
for maple sap. Maple trees that have been dormant all winter respond to the increasing daylight hours and warmer
temperatures by sending sap flowing through their systems,
preparing to nourish the tiny leaf and flower buds at stems’
ends. If we time the tapping right, we can siphon off some
of the sweet sap and boil it down to make maple syrup. The
tapping involves drilling small holes in select maple trees,
installing taps and hooking up the collection system. No
registration is required for this free program. Call Dallas
County Conservation at 515-465-3577 for information.

brave story with us on Saturday, February 7 at 11 a.m.
