Saturday, November 8 7:00 AM – 8:30 AM Parish Hall Questions: contact Matt Dunne at: [email protected] BUILDING FUND and $$$ UPDATE More Donations Needed! November 9th As always, building projects costs more than expected! The Huntington Beach Fire Department has stated that we will need to add a fully monitored fire alarm system to these new additions. We were initially told that this was not necessary. But it has changed. This was not budgeted and requires revised plans to resubmit to the city for a fully fire alarmed building. As well, there are additional costs for the landscaping, furniture and audio visual systems. Please be generous in your donations in the Special Collection on November 9th in addition to your usual Sunday Offering! PLEASE consider a significant donation to the Building For The Future fund in order to avoid taking a loan to finance the building project. THANK YOU for your generosity! St. Vincent de Paul Church Remembering Our Deceased There will be a special Remembering Our Deceased Mass on Saturday, November 8, at 8:30 AM in remembrance of those who have died. Please join us in praying for our loved ones. Also, we will have tree branches in the vestibule where you may hang small photos (4” x 6” or smaller) or prayer cards of your loved ones who have died in the past year. You may bring the photos/cards to the Parish Office for us to hang, or you may put them up yourselves after the tree branches are placed in the Church entrance at the beginning of November. Please reclaim your mementos by the weekend of November 23/24. After that time, you may pick them up in the Parish Office during regular office hours. The Commemoration Of All The Faithful Departed (All Souls Day) Sunday, November 2nd Each year on November 2nd the Church commemorates all the Faithful Departed and prays for the Holy Souls in Purgatory. All who died in God’s grace and friendship, but still imperfectly purified, and indeed assured of their eternal salvation; but after death they undergo purification, so as the achieve the holiness necessary to enter the joy of heaven. (ccc1030) The church gives the name Purgatory to this final purification of the elect, which is entirely different from the punishment of the damned. The teaching is also based on the practice of prayer for the dead, mentioned in Sacred Scripture: “Therefore [Judas Maccabeus] made atonement for the dead, that they might be delivered from their sin” (Macc12:46). From the beginning the Church has honored the memory of the dead and offered prayers in suffrage for them, above all the Eucharistic sacrifice, so that, thus purified, they may attain the beatific vision of God.
