Learning Objectives: Upon completion of this meeting, participants should accomplish improving physician competence by being able to: • Describe how to decrease risks of transfusion related illnesses. • Recognize current trends in transfusion medicine • Identify current advancements in transfusion medicine that are associated with improved patient outcomes. • Explain the cost effectiveness of new conservation techniques Activity Description: This one day conference includes a review and update in transfusion medicine as well as identifies advancements that are associated with improved patient outcomes. Each session will include lectures with supporting statistical data and question & answer periods. The conference combines best practice strategies and education through lectures with statistical data and case examples. Syllabus materials will be provided as a resource. Purpose: The purpose of this educational activity is to improve the care of patients, increase blood conservation, and show how to achieve reduction in healthcare costs by closing common clinical practice gaps that have been identified. Intended/Target Audience: Perfusionists, cardiothoracic surgeons and other surgeons, cardiac anesthesia, blood banking/transfusion medicine, critical care, intensive care, hospitalists, and their Physician Assistants/APRNs and others who manage patients postoperatively.
