RENEWING BOOKS

 Students: two renewals. Staff: one renewal.
 Short loan items cannot be renewed.
FINES
 Short loan items: R2.00 per hour or part thereof per item.
 Regular loan items: R2.00 per item per day.
 Recalled items: R5.00 per item per day.
ACCESS POLICY
PHOTOCOPYING, PRINTING & SCANNING
Use your student card to photocopy, print and scan.
An A4 copy costs 34c. Visitors’ cards cost R25.00
which is not refundable. You can top up your card
using the cash box.

BORROWING MATERIAL
Undergraduates: 6 books for 7 days.
Postgraduates: 12 books for 35 days.
Staff: 30 books for 90 days.
Short loan items: 3 items for 3 hours or overnight
(in addition to the above).
A book requested by another user must be
returned within one week. The fine for late
returns of recalled books is R5.00 per item/day.

COLLECTIONS
We have substantial collections of southern African,
foreign, international and comparative legal material,
in print and electronic format.
ELECTRONIC RESOURCES
You can access all leading legal databases such as
Westlaw International, LexisNexis Academic and
HeinOnline. Law reports, statutes, journals and
monographs are some of our online materials.

remotely via the Off-campus Login link.
JOURNALS
SHORT LOANS
We subscribe to all the southern African legal journals,
and to a large number from other countries.
High-demand material to be borrowed during the day
for 3 hours for use inside the library only. For overnight
they are issued from 15h00 to 09h30 the next morning,
and from 15h00 on Friday to 09h30 on Monday.
Journals are shelved on level 1 which includes the
most recent issues. Journals may not be borrowed
(except from Short Loan).
ANTIQUARIAN COLLECTION
The Van Zyl Collection of Roman-Dutch legal material
may be consulted by permission of the Law Librarian. It
is the finest collection of its kind outside of Europe and
the USA (our oldest work dates to 1472).

We have a comprehensive collection of South African
legal monographs and a substantial collection of nonSouth African material, with an emphasis on Africa.

CASE LAW
We have several complete sets of the various South
African law reports, as well as law reports from many
other jurisdictions, that cannot be borrowed (except
from Short Loan).

FACILITIES
We offer a comprehensive legal research training
programme to enable you to make the most of the
library's vast print and online resources. The
programme includes online interactive tutorials.

statutes. We also have smaller collections from the
SADC countries and from some foreign jurisdictions,
including the USA, UK, Canada and Australia.
