Lincolnshire MCP Update Christmas 2014 Welcome to the latest Lincolnshire MCP update, and best wishes for a very Happy Christmas. New one-off grant for roof repairs – ends 30th January 2015! In the Autumn Statement of 3 December 2014, the Chancellor announced a new, one-off grant scheme for roofs and rainwater goods of listed places of worship. Fifteen million pounds is available, for grants of between £10k and £100k. The money is provided by the government, and is not Lottery money. Details are available here www.lpowroof.org.uk Trusts which care for redundant places of worship are also eligible under certain circumstances. The timescale for applications is exceptionally short – applications have to be in by the end of January. However if you are awarded a grant, you will then have reasonable time to complete the work. You can apply even if you have not obtained all the necessary permissions from the planning or denominational authorities. Applications should be made online here: https://forms.lpowroof.org.uk/RoofRepairFund_Application.ofml The Church of England has prepared some useful background material on their ChurchCare website, and this will probably be helpful to all denominations and faith groups who are thinking of applying: http://www.churchcare.co.uk/churches/funding-and-grants/roof-repair-fund Project Update Conference in York From Gutter to Spire, our first Annual Conference which we held in York on 21st of November, marked the start of National Maintenance Week. It was great fun, and was enjoyed by 85 people, including quite a few from Lincolnshire. I gave a presentation on the last 12 months in the MCP team, focusing on what I’ve been up to in Lincolnshire, and my colleague Kate Andrew spoke about what she had been doing in the Herefordshire and Worcestershire patch. Andrew Mottram finished the presentations with a very useful, thought provoking and amusing talk on ‘Faculties made Easy’, and other speakers covered the effect of visitors on your building and cherishing your churchyard. This was followed after lunch by maintenance surgeries, or guided tours. If you missed it check out our web page for videos of the presentations and copies of the slides. www.spabmcp.org.uk The Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings. Founded in 1877. Project website Talking of the website, our temporary pages are being replaced with our brandnew, custom-designed website in the New Year, which will have the same address as below, but will be much more interactive, and will include a section just for Lincolnshire! James, our technical officer, is also responding to feedback from baseline surveying which has been carried out, and is modifying the forms in relation to this. These, together with the maintenance plan pro-forma, will be available to download from the new website very shortly, along with a range of other new resources. Lincolnshire News I held two training events in the last couple of months, which were fantastic days which everyone seemed to enjoy. The first was a grants workshop in Horncastle on 23rd of September which saw delegates ‘putting their ducks in order’. For an overview of the day, please have a look at the blog article that I wrote here: http://www.spabfim.org.uk/blog/lincolnshire-grantsworkshop-23rd-sept-2014/ The second workshop, in Leadenham on 1st Nov, was held jointly by myself, Lincolnshire Churches Trust, and the Diocesan Church Buildings Team. We were joined by members of a wide range of organisations at this Repair Projects Workshop, who helped us learn all about about maintenance, preparing for your QI, writing statements of need, and applying for funding. The Church Trust also out on a fantastic hot lunch! We got lots of very positive feedback at the end of the day, and we hope to run it again next year too, hopefully in the North of the County Lincolnshire Co-ops At the end of November I also met with churches in the North Manlake Parish who were interested in setting up a Co-op group, and am pleased to say that both All Saints Winterton, and St Bartholomew’s Appleby would both like to be in a group. We’re just finalising details for baseline survey training, which we’re hoping to hold at Appleby at the end of April, and waiting to get the go-ahead from Appleby PCC. Another group of churches, further South in the Holland Coastal Group, have also agreed to form a Co-op, again dependent on PCC agreement. This Co-op will be based around the closed, Churches Conservation Trust Project Church of Benington, All Saints, and will be working in partnership with the Beonna Project team. We hope to start developing a training programme and undertaking baseline surveys in the New Year, so watch this space! If your church is located close to these two groups, and you would to join them, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me. I’m also hoping to develop a group in Central Lincoln too, so do let me know if you’d like to be involved. www.spabmcp.org.uk The Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings. Founded in 1877.
