CHIEF FEATURES

Heavy rain/snowfall occurred at isolated places over Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh on
3rd & 4th February.

Dense/very dense fog occurred at a few places over East Uttar Pradesh on 1st February; at a few
places over Punjab, Haryana & Delhi, north Rajasthan and West Uttar Pradesh on 4th February and
at isolated places over Bihar and Sub Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim on 29th, 31st January & 1st
February; over Uttarakhand on 29th & 30th January; over Delhi, north Chhattisgarh and Assam on
29th January; over Himachal Pradesh and East Uttar Pradesh on 30th January; over Tripura on 31st
January & 1st February and over Gujarat on 2nd February.

Cold wave conditions prevailed at many places over East Madhya Pradesh & Vidarbha on 31st
January, at a few places over north Odisha on 2nd February and at isolated places over Haryana &
Delhi, Rajasthan, West Uttar Pradesh and West Madhya Pradesh on 29th January; over Rajasthan
& Madhya Pradesh on 30th January, over West Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh on 31st
January, over Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha on 1st February; over Vidarbha on 2nd February and
over Gangetic West Bengal on 31st January, 1st & 2nd February.

Cold day conditions prevailed at a few places over West Uttar Pradesh and at isolated places over
Haryana on 29th January.
METEOROLOGICAL ANALYSIS








Last week’s trough from East Uttar Pradesh to southwest Madhya Pradesh lay centred over north
Bihar to northeast Madhya Pradesh extending upto 1.5 km above mean sea level on 29th January. It
extended from west Assam to Gangetic West Bengal in lower levels and become less marked on
30th.
Last week’s trough of low over Sri Lanka & neighbourhood lay centred over Sri Lanka & adjoining
Comorin area on 29th January. It moved westwards, lay centred over Maldives-Lakshadweep area
on 30th, was seen as an upper air cyclonic circulation over Lakshadweep areas & neighbourhood
extending upto 3.1 km above mean sea level on 31st and became less marked on 1st February.
Last week’s western disturbance as a trough in mid­tropospheric westerlies roughly along Longitude
73.0°E and north of Latitude 30.0°N moved away east-northeastwards on 29th January.
Last week’s upper air cyclonic circulation as a trough from Assam to Bangladesh was seen as an
upper air cyclonic circulation over Bangladesh & neighbourhood extending upto 1.5 km above mean
sea level on 29th and became less marked on 30th January.
Last week’s upper air cyclonic circulation over Maldives & adjoining Lakshadweep area moved away
westwards and became unimportant on 29th.
A Western Disturbance as a trough in mid-tropospheric westerlies ran roughly along Longitude
72.0°E and north of Latitude 30.0°N on 29th and moved away east-northeastwards on 30th January.
Associated
An Induced upper air cyclonic circulation lay centred over central Pakistan & adjoining Punjab and
West Rajasthan extending upto 1.5 km above mean sea level on 29th and became less marked on
30th.
Another Western Disturbance as an upper air cyclonic circulation extending upto 3.1 km above mean
sea level lay centred over western parts of Afghanistan & neighbourhood on 31st January and over

northeast Afghanistan & adjoining Pakistan on 1st February. It persisted over same area with a
trough aloft upto mid-tropospheric level roughly along Long. 64.0°E and North of Lat. 22.0°N on 2 nd.
The upper air cyclonic circulation persisted over same area extending upto 3.1 km above mean sea
level with the trough aloft roughly along Long. 67.0°E and north of Lat. 25.0°N on 3rd and moved
away east-northeastwards thereafter.
An induced upper air cyclonic circulation lay centred over central Pakistan & adjoining West
Rajasthan extending upto 2.1 km above mean sea level on 1st; over southwest Rajasthan and
neighbourhood extending upto 1.5 km above mean sea level on 2nd, over West Uttar Pradesh and
adjoining Haryana & Uttarakhand on 3rd and became less marked on 4th.
Another induced upper air cyclonic circulation lay centred over Punjab & neighbourhood at 1.5 km
above mean sea level on 2nd; and merged with induced upper air cyclonic circulation over West Uttar
Pradesh and adjoining Haryana & Uttarakhand on 3rd.
A trough of low at mean sea level lay centred over south Andaman Sea & adjoining southeast Bay of
Bengal on 1st; over southeast Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood on 2nd; over southeast & adjoining
southwest Bay of Bengal on 3rd and over southwest Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood on 4th.
An upper air cyclonic circulation lay centred over western parts of Assam & adjoining Bangladesh
extending upto 3.6 km above mean sea level on 2nd. It lay centred over Tripura & neighbourhood
extending upto 1.5 km above mean sea level on 3rd and 4th.
RAINFALL
Sub-divisionwise daily distribution of realised rainfall and temperature is shown in Table-1.
Rainfall During The Week (For the week ending on 4th February, 2015)
Rainfall was excess/normal in 06, deficient/scanty in 18 and no rain in 12 out of 36 meteorological
sub-divisions. (All India Actual: 5.5 mm, Normal: 5.0 mm and Departure: +9).
Cumulative Seasonal Rainfall (1st January to 4th February, 2015)
Rainfall was excess/normal in 23 and deficient/scanty in 13 out of 36 meteorological sub-divisions. (All
India Actual: 21.0 mm, Normal: 21.5 mm and Departure: -2).
The sub-division wise weekly and seasonal rainfall distribution is presented in Fig.1 and Fig.2.
Statewise distribution of number of districts with excess, normal, deficient, scanty and no rainfall
is shown in Table-2.
A comparative data of cumulative seasonal rainfall during the corresponding period in the last
five years is given in Table-3.
METEOROLOGICAL ANALYSIS AS ON 05 FEBRUARY, 2015
 A trough of low at mean sea level lies over southwest Bay of Bengal & neighbourhood.
 An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over Tripura & neighbourhood extending upto 1.5 km above
mean sea level.
 A fresh Western Disturbance would affect Western Himalayan region on 7th & 8th February.
Forecast & Warning for the Week ending on 11 FEBRUARY, 2015
Temperature & Fog Forecast
 Fog would occur at isolated places over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, north
Rajasthan, north Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim during many
days of the week.
 Maximum & minimum temperatures would be near/above normal over northwest and adjoining central
& east India during 1st half of the week and minimum temperatures would fall by 2-3° C over
northwest India thereafter
