Six inches of ¼" wide elastic
Rotary cutter with pinking or wave rotary blade
Seam sealant
Glow Line Tape
1.Fold in one short
end 4” and the
other 7” so raw
edges meet. Secure
with Wonder Clips.
2.Fold up 4” end to create a pocket,
enclosing the raw edges. Hold in
place with Wonder Clips.
3.Mark lines on
pocket area
1 - 1 ½” apart,
using Glow Line
Tape.
5.Topstitch along outside
edges and along one
edge of tape on pocket
sections with a 4.0
straight stitch, backstitching at each end.
4.Finish off outer raw edges
with a decorative rotary cutter edge, trimming a scant ¼”.
Fold elastic in half to make a
loop and insert into top edge of
pocket section.
6.Use seam sealant
to secure ends of
stitching.

Make this handy insulated oven mitt
Make this kitchen necessity to match any décor. Insul-Bright
reflects the heat away from your hands and the Warm & Natural
batting absorbs any condensation. Custom quilt any fabric easily
with a walking foot and quilting guide!
1.Download the pattern
from www.sewaustin.com/
YOU’LL NEED
projects (also available at
2 coordinating fat quarters for main mitt
the store)print it, and cut
Piece of coordinating fabric for cuff binding, 2 ½" × 18"
where indicated
18" × 22" of Insul-Bright
18" × 22" of Warm & Natural batting
2.Make a “sandwich” with
Quilt Basting Spray
your fabrics, using Quilt
Basting Spray to hold
Frixion pen
together.
6" × 18" Omnigrid ruler
*Outside fabric, face down.
All-purpose sewing thread
*Insul-Bright, silver side
Walking foot with quilting guide
down.
Quilting needle, 90/14
*Warm & Natural
*Lining fabric, face up
3.Mark primary 45° quilting lines through center using an Omnigrid ruler and a Frixion pen.
4.Attach walking foot with quilting guide set 1½" from needle. Sew along primary lines with a
4.0 straight stitch, then add lines using quilting guide for perfect spacing.
5.Cut two mitt pieces, making
sure to reverse the pattern
so you have the Insul-Bright
facing out on both pieces.
7.Fold binding strip in half lengthwise and press.
8.Cut off a 6" piece for hanging loop and fold raw
edges to inside, press and edgestitch. Put aside.
9.Stitch binding to wrong side of cuff edge, keeping
raw edges even, using a generous ¼" seam. Fold
over to right side and topstitch, covering previous
stitching.
10.Fold loop in half and place on right side
of mitt, perpendicular to seam, just above
binding, all raw edges even.
11.Sew remaining seam,
backstitching at binding.
