How to sell more gloves
• Link you stock to the weather and the type of equestrian activities your
clients do. Many riding glove styles cr oss over into the ‘work’ category, so
don’t ignore this important sector too.
• Riders always like to try on gloves. Of fer a sales aid rein so they can test
the fit and grip.
• Women’s sizes usually range from 6 to 8 including half sizes. But be sur e
to stock the larger sizes for men too. Their size range tends to be 8 to 11
with some manufacturers going to a 13.
• When it comes to children’s gloves, they need warmth, comfort and grip
on the reins – just like adults. The childr en’s showing market, in particular,
demands good quality and fit. Offer some fun, bright colors too, however,
for the best of both worlds.
• Technical, synthetic fabrics have br ought many benefits to gloves. Get
product information from your suppliers so you can explain their attributes
such as durability , longevity, colorfastness and washability to your
customers. Some examples ar e: Synthetic Aquasuede (soft, colorfast,
sweat absorbing, breathable and washable), Lycra (used for glove backs for
a close fit and omni-dir ectional support with ventilation), Neopr ene (soft,
flexible, tough and r etains body heat), Spandex (elastic, lightweight,
flexible and durable) and Aquatack (breathable palm with precise grip).
• Leather gloves remain popular. Deerskin is durable, breathable and hard
wearing; Kid Leather (goatskin) is high in lanolin ther efore soft and har d
wearing; Cowhide offers texture and is fir m yet easy to ‘br eak-in’; S and
Pigskin are durable, supple and breathable.
• Linings come in man-made and traditional fabrics too. Thinsulate of fers
warm yet non-bulky insulation, even in damp conditions; Polar Fleece
provides warmth without weight and is a useful alter native for customers
who are allergic to wool; silk is incr edibly lightweight and a natural
insulator in cold and war m conditions.
• Create a specific glove ar ea in stor e, taking advantage of any
merchandising units offered. Display in styles and types pertinent to the
time of year with a good choice of sizes and colors; top up r egularly.
• Display gloves so they are easy to reach and inviting to try on.
Materials:
Synthetics: Synthetic material in gloves is her e to stay . As well as the
advantage of greater choice of colors, synthetic gloves ar e washable and
colorfast, usually more comfortable, flexible and durable. They retain their
flexibility after being exposed to wet and damp, unlike most leather
gloves. Synthetic materials are also always tested for hidden faults insuring

Neoprene: An extremely versatile synthetic rubber which is soft, flexible

Kevlar®: Kevlar® is an extremely strong synthetic material that derives its
strength from its weave. It is woven like tiny spider webs. Kevlar® is a
special way of weaving a liquid into a solid. This is called an aramid weave.
Aramid fibers tend to be difficult to corrode, resistant to heat, and have no
meltingpoint.
Leather
Deerskin Leather: Our N orth American deerskin leather has many
advantages including comfort, durability , chafe r esistance, and br eathability.
Kid Leather (Goatskin): Kid leather is one of the most durable leathers yet
remains soft and flexible. It has been pr oven, from independent testing,
that goat skin is nature’s softest leather after deerskin. It is also the softest
leather due to the presence of lanolin.
Sheep Skin Leather: Incredibly comfortable sheepskin gloves pr ovide an
excellent feel of the r eins. Several of many advantages include comfort,
durability, chafe resistance, and breathability.
Cowhide Leather: Maximum value material for textur e and appearance,
provides a gr eat finish. Cowhide is extr emely durable, fir m yet easy to
break in, and comfortable.
Pigksin Leather: This leather is durable, supple, br
lightweight and extremely porous.

Insulators
Silk: Silk fibers are the lightest of all natural fibers. Silk is both lightweight
and incredibly warm. Silk is a natural insulator and br eathes very well,
keeping you cool in the summer and war m in the winter . Silk fiber is
lustrous, smooth, supple, lightweight, elastic, and str ong.
Polar Fleece: Soft napped insulating synthetic wool fabric made from PET
or other synthetic fibers and comfortable to wear, very warm and provides
warmth without weighing a lot. A good alter native for those who ar e
allergic or sensitive to wool.
Thinsulate®: The warmest thin glove insulation available, even in damp
conditions. It pr ovides about 1½ times the war mth of down, and about
twice the warmth of other high loft insulation materials.
