DEC 2014/JAN 2015

Greetings Everyone and a most Happy Thanksgiving.
It seems as if time is just flying. I, along with many other members of the Washington
Unit attended the memorial service for Joanne Robinson who passed suddenly. She
was a wonderful lady, a tireless volunteer and my friend. We also celebrating the life of
Glenn Zempel, another one of the REALLY good ones. Our thoughts and prayers go
out to their many friends and family. They will be missed!

Our two new committees who have been working on the records and financials have
about wrapped up their duties. Due to some last minute changes in dates I have revised
the Unit Schedule for events in the upcoming year. A full report will be made at our
next BOT meeting at 7:00 PM in Harmony Hall on December 11th just prior to our
Christmas Rally. And speaking of the Christmas Rally, do not miss it! From what I
hear, it will be a real ring dinger. The dates for the rally will be December 12 to 14 and
will be hosted by Nick & Emi Fisher and Lin & Maryke Hines.
As you all might remember, Joel Ware initiated a survey several months ago and we
are still receiving many returns. I find the comments not just interesting but very
helpful for planning purposes. Cost of events is a hot button for many folks. I was also
surprised by the number of members who do not have email or computers. We are
addressing this issue and I like what the unit has come up with. Jerry and Lois
Hamilton along with Robert O’Reilly have established an individual on each street
who will see that the Newsletters, Ballots and notices will be hand delivered to every
home who do not have electronic type communications. Good job!
At the last BOT meeting, we discussed reinstating the position of Third VP. The
arguments against the position was the difficulty in finding candidates to step up, and
the additional time one would be involved. I held this position some year’s back and
was next to the last member to do so. I favor the idea because I believe the extra year of
learning and preparing is well worth the effort in filling this position.
We are planning our Winter Luncheon for Saturday Jan 17th. Charon and I will be
your hosts at O’Blarney’s Irish Pub at Noon. The address is 4411 Martin Way. Meal
cost about $10-$14.00 and they have a large selection. Please sign up by the 12th of
January. See article on page 5.
Last but not least, The Event Schedule. Due to conflicts in dates, the events schedule
for the coming year is revised. (See page 2)
That about wraps it up so I will end by wishing everyone a most wonderful Christmas
and the very best in the New Year. God bless and stay safe.
