Job description and Responsibilities We seek a motivated hands-on Analytical Chemist for our labs in Lexington. You will be in charge of the development of GC-FID, GC-MS, HPLC, LC-MS analytical methods and assays to provide cross-functional and interdepartmental support to quality, strain engineering and fermentation. You will constantly interact with the scientists in charge of strain engineering and fermentation and will have the responsibility of providing state-of-the-art analytical chemistry support to the team in a fast and efficient manner. You will also be in charge of quantification of fermentation samples by using already established methodologies or by implementing new ones. You will pro-actively propose new approaches to tackle analytical challenges i.e. for the detection of difficult compounds or identifying unexpected unknown metabolites. You will be responsible for the separation, isolation and purification of volatiles and semi-volatile fermentation products and by-products (i.e. by means of fractional distillation, flash column chromatography, thin layer chromatography, etc…). Maintenance and troubleshooting of the instruments is part of your daily work. Required skills and experience MSc. or PhD in analytical chemistry or related disciplines Solid technical experience in GC-FID/MS and/or HPLC/UPLC-MS Solid experience in development and validation of quantitative methodologies Strong grasp of principles of general chemistry and organic chemistry concepts Experience in analysis of yeast or other microbial metabolites is an advantage As a person, you are enthusiastic, resourceful, flexible and hard-working and have a genuine interest in carrying out high quality research & development and learning new competencies.
