HIGH POINT MAN IN THE PAINT • Anthony Gill, a High Point, N.C., native, is averaging career highs in points (11.3) and rebounds (6.7) this season. • Gill, who was named to the USBWA Oscar Robertson Trophy Midseason Watch List, has a team-leading three double-doubles. • Gill recorded career highs in points (25) and rebounds (13) against Davidson for his second career double-double. • Gill tallied his first career double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds en route to MVP honors at the Barclays Center Classic. • Gill hit doubles figures in six straight games from Nov. 25-Dec. 18, averaging 14.5 points during that span. • Gill leads the team in field goal percentage (56.8%) and ranks 15th in the ACC in rebounding and has improved his free-throw shooting to 71.6 percent. BARCLAYS CENTER CLASSIC RECAP • The Cavaliers’ Barclays Center title on Nov. 29 marked their third tournament championship in the Tony Bennett era (2014 ACC Tournament and Corpus Christi Challenge). • Virginia defeated Norfolk State (67-39), Tennessee State (79-36), La Salle (64-56) and Rutgers (45-26) en route to the title. • The 26 points allowed against Rutgers were the fewest allowed by UVa in the shot clock era (since 1986). • The Cavaliers held Rutgers scoreless for 9:24 in the second half of the title game. • Anthony Gill was named tournament MVP after averaging 14 points and eight rebounds in the four games. • Justin Anderson joined Gill on the all-tournament team.
