He established his business at 338 The Strand, London and played an important role in the founding the British Homological Institute in 1858. He was master of the Worshipful Company in 1852 and 1861 and a share holder in the Bank of England and the East India Company. He exhibited at the Great Exhibition, The International Trade Exhibition, 1862 and at many other shows. A fellow of both the Royal Geological Society and the Society of Antiquaries, he died aged 94.
