different aspects of Hydropower Projects. The Civil Design aspects of Hydropower Projects has a very
important bearing on Planning, Costing Safety as well as life of Hydropower Projects. Keeping this in mind, a
one week program on “Civil Design Aspects of Hydropower Projects” is scheduled during 9-13 February
DURATION
The participants are expected to reach NWA by the evening of 08 February, 2015 and should plan to leave
only after 1800 Hrs. of 13 February, 2015.

PROGRAM CONTENTS
The program will comprise of classroom sessions, case studies and related field visits and will primarily
cover the following topics:

A) DAM AND SPILLWAY DESIGN
General planning of HP Project including hydrological planning and Power Potential Studies.
Run of the River Schemes: General Design of Barrage and Appurtenant Structures. .
Storage Schemes – Design of various types of Dams
Concrete, Earth and Rockfill Dams.
MasonryDams, Roller Compacted Concrete Dams, Hydraulic and Structural Design of different typesof
Spillways.
Analysis and Design of EnergyDissipation Arrangement
B)
DESIGN OF WATER CONDUCTOR SYSTEM
Design and Planning of Power Intakes, Desilting Chambers and Water conductor system.
Hydraulic Transient Studies.
Planning and Design of Power House – Civil Structures.
C)
UNDERGROUND CAVITIES AND SOFTWARES USED IN HYDROPOWER PROJECTS
Superstructures, Intermediate Structures and Substructures.
Design of Tunneling including underground cavities for various purposes.
Introduction to different Softwares in Hydel Civil Design structures.

Graduate Engineers in the rank of AE/EAD, AEE/AD & EE/DD, SE/Director etc. with experience in the field
of planning, design and construction of water resources structures.
PARTICIPATION
The nomination of the officers fitting the target profile may be sent to the Program Director latest by 29th
January 2015. The nominated officers are requested to start for the program only after confirmation of their
nomination. The accepted nominations will be displayed on NWA’s website on 30th January 2015.

PROGRAM FEE
There is no program fee for participants from Central and State Govt. departments. Charges
for participants from other categories are:

Discounts applicable : (a) 50% for PSUs of MoWR i.e. WAPCOS & NPCC
(no group discount); (b) For others – 20% discount for 3-4 participants; 30%
discount for 5 or more participants from the same organization.
Payment may be made by Demand Draft drawn in favour of “Deputy Director
(A&C), NWA, Pune” prior to the commencement of the training program.
NWA has a self-contained residential campus, and all out-station participants would be provided with
accommodation in the NWA Hostel. Lodging and boarding will be provided by NWA.
Airport/Railway station pickup/drop will have to be arranged by the participants. The participants may
avail the services of prepaid taxi/auto.

WEATHER
During the month of February it is mild winter and the average temperature of Pune may be around 15°C to
20°C.
