Stephen Ministry—What do Stephen Ministers Do? Stephen Ministers do all the following: *Provide quality one-to-one ministry as trained, caring church members reaching out to others in time of need *Engage in a caregiving relationship that focuses on the unique needs of one person with confidentiality, and lasts as long as the needs exist *Receive support, guidance, and supervision from Stephen Leaders and from one another in order to continue giving effective Christian care to others. If you are interested in becoming a Stephen Minister, classes will begin on February 3rd. Please let Jimmy Whited, Dave Barkalow or Margaret Nordlie, know of your intentions so that the books can be ordered. If someone you know is feeling that time of need, please suggest Stephen ministry to them and after you receive permission, let Pastor Dave know that they would like extra pastoral care. Music Thanks to a generous gift from First Arts, new chimes were installed on the organ this past week. Listen for their beautiful sound as we play them on occasion to enhance our Worship. Children’s Ministry—Backpack Program Currently, more than 18 million children qualify for free or reduced price meals through the National School Lunch Program, but what happens to these children when they go home over the weekend? The mission of the Backpack Program is to meet the needs of chronically hungry children by providing them with nutritious and easy-to-prepare food to take home on weekends and school vacations when other resources are not available. The following is a list of donations that are needed to support the Backpack Program. Food items are chosen based on ease of preparation and shelf life. Single serving cereal boxes Single serving grits or oatmeal packets Breakfast bars Ramen noodles (flat packs) Applesauce Pudding cups Easy Mac-n-cheese Individual Goldfish packs / Animal crackers Cracker packs Tuna or chicken individual packets Canned dinners (ie., ravioli, Spaghettios, lasagna, beef stew, chicken noodle soup, chili) Every Thursday, volunteers prepare 31 bags to be distributed to students on Friday at Silver Sands. Your donations will help offset the cost of the food and keep a few of our local children from being hungry on the weekend.
