Dear Members and Prospective Members,
This is an exciting time at CEL! We are so happy to welcome you back for another
season of fun! The Spring and Summer sessions provide some of your favorite programs
as well as a few new programs and fun new excursions! The Tuesday Arts Night and the
Open Mic & Arts Night – both introduced in the fall from YOUR feedback – continue to
grow in popularity and provide you with more opportunities to creatively and artistically
express yourself!

Another exciting development is something that has been in the works for a while now!
The Center will soon be embarking on a BIG renovation incorporating Universal Design
throughout the building. The goal of Universal Design is to produce spaces and objects
that are designed for everyone to use – no matter their level of ability. No exclusions.
The doors will be wider so members who use wheelchairs can easily and independently
navigate throughout the building. The front doors will open automatically. We will be
changing light, sound & color so they are more welcoming to people with autism, seizure
disorders and sensory challenges.
The building will now reflect our mission of include, achieve and enjoy. EVERYONE
will be able to fully access the building – with dignity and independence. This is such
an exciting development and there are many moving pieces and we will keep you posted
throughout the entire process on our website, newsletters and social media. Make sure you
follow us and are signed up for updates to keep track of progress.

REACH
reach day program
LEARN new skills
GROW as an individual
Connect with the community
Achieve personal success
THRIVE!
The REACH Adult Day Program is a year-round
day program for adults who work part-time, are
unemployed or who want something different from
the traditional workshop environment. Members must
have graduated from high school or be at least 22 years
of age to enroll.
REACH gives members opportunities to continue to
learn, make new friends and succeed while having
meaningful experiences throughout the day. The
program is offered five days a week, Monday through
Friday, from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Members
choose the number of days they wish to attend, as well
as having the option to come in at 9:00 AM to begin
their day for an extended day.
REACH members partner with staff in planning
activities and classes for each month. Some member’s
choices have included fitness activities, social groups,
pet therapy, swimming, fishing, horticulture, drama
and art.
REACH members can also choose from other classes
that members express interest in such as Shop ‘N’
Cook, Janitorial Training, Book Club and learning
basic computer skills. REACH offers a Relationship
Class taught by a licensed clinical counselor where
members are able to discuss issues such as friendships,
dating and learning to advocate for themselves.
Illinois Imagines, a sexual assault prevention and
education program is also offered. Through a generous
grant from Macy's, The Center has been able to
enhance and adapt the curriculum to better meet the
needs of REACH members.
REACH collaborates with organizations such as Arts
of Life, Our Place of New Trier and Keshet where
members engage in a variety of activities, including
exploring the community, making new friends and
reconnecting with old friends.
For those individuals who are interested in gaining work
skills, REACH offers vocational skills training. The purpose
is to provide training and support in an area of interest
which, in the future, may enable the individual to pursue
community employment in this field. Job skill areas include,
but are not limited to, training in shredding and recycling
including collecting, sorting and going out to the recycling
center in the community to earn cash for future outings of
the participants’ choice.
REACH is committed to providing members opportunities
to connect to the community with more than 20 partners.
REACH members are currently involved in projects
at: Lincoln Park Zoo, Adopt-a-Highway Department,
Horsefeathers Therapeutic Riding Stables, Marriot Hotels,
Home Delivered Meals, Catholic Charities Food Pantry,
Bernie’s Book Bank and Whitehall of Deerfield.
The Center is committed to working with each individual
to find the program that best meets his/her needs. The
process is as follows:
• CEL Staff and the prospective REACH member meet and
get to know each other during an initial interview
• Staff and/or veteran REACH members host a tour of
The Center
• A 30-day assessment period at the start of the program
enables the participant and the REACH staff to gather
the tools they need to develop his/her personal REACH
for Success Plan. The plan incorporates the individual’s
dreams, desires and interests to establish a course of
action to achieve his/her individual goals. Progress
toward the goals will be tracked by the REACH member,
with assistance from staff. A quarterly progress report will
be shared with key people in the member’s life.
• A primary outcome of the program is for the REACH
member to make progress towards his/her personal goals.
• We require that members make a minimum six month
commitment to the program.
If you are interested in learning more about the REACH
day program contact Sierra Shum at 847.315.9920 or
complete the interest form on page 30. We will contact you
to arrange a tour.

they are within a 15 mile radius from The Center. We reserve the right
to limit the amount of time that a member spends on our vehicles to
and from program. We can establish a location where there are 4 or
more persons who can travel together. You must make arrangements
for this transportation when you register for program.
For activities in the community, members are required to (1) meet
at The Center and (2) use our transportation. Members should not
meet the group at special events locations. We expect families,
caregivers and agency staff to be on time for both pick-up and
drop-off. The Center vehicles will only wait an additional 10 minutes
at a pick-up location prior to the program. In the event that a family
member, caregiver or agency staff is late in picking up a member
after program, late fees will be charged and families or agencies will
be billed accordingly. The Center cannot assume the costs incurred
when families, caregivers or agency staff are late picking up members.
We reserve the right to suspend the membership of a member whose
family member/caregiver/agency staff is late three (3) times or more
during a program session.
In order to be fiscally responsible, The Center reserves the right to
change fees when necessary to cover our expenses. Fees quoted in this
guide will be in effect through August 2015.
Mail, Fax or Drop-Off Your Registration
Mail your registration to The Center for Enriched Living
280 Saunders Road, Riverwoods, Illinois 60015, fax to 847.948.7621,

through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. or use the drop-box located
by the front doors.
Inclement Weather Information
If inclement weather occurs, The Center may determine to cancel programs. (Inclement weather can be defined as heat index over 100˚ or higher,
vehicles/sites without air conditioning, tornado warnings, icy road conditions, snow storms, extreme wind chill, etc.) If this does occur, The Center will
call members prior to the start of a program to cancel the program. Members can also call the program hotline number (847.948.7001, ext. 222) for
updated information.
Program Guide Errors Our staff have made every effort to prepare this program guide as accurately as possible; however, errors can occur.
Circumstances may require that adjustments be made to programs, fees, schedules, etc. The Center for Enriched Living reserves the right to make any
such adjustments. We apologize for any inconvenience these errors or adjustments may cause.
