AUCTIONEER’S REPORT (Greg MacDougall):- A well attended
ringside of local and travelled buyers particulary from Lincolnshire
and the East Ridings ensured all classes of cattle exceeded vendors
expectations. Longer keep and grazing cattle nicely sold in most
cases £100 dearer on the previous sale. Plenty of interest too in
B+W’s with plenty selling from £750-£880 with stronger sorts
£1000+ topping at £1170. Strong continental bullocks and heifers
£1200-£1400. An exceptional trade for young bulls at the beginning
of the sale with some Blonde x sorts realsing £1000. Many more could
have been sold.

placed, J&AI Polkinghorne showing a nice run of Welsh Blacks and AA
selling to £420 and £402. The continentals forward met with plenty

AUCTIONEER’S REPORT (Greg MacDougall):- With lambs
seemingly in short supply this week countrywide a massive
ringside of 19 active buyers desended on Bentham, all keen to
ensure numbers both of store and prime hoggs. The first
noticeable signs of fed hoggs coming forward all of which met a
fantastic trade and more are now required on a weekly basis. An
overall average for all weights and breeds of 192.3pkg was
achieved or £82.30. It should be noted by potential vendors 151
hoggs from the total entry sold from £100+. Commercial export
hoggs 37kg-43kg often 200-215p. Best hoggs met a tremendous
trade and many more could have been sold, plenty of pens 250p300p. Handy mule hoggs 185p-195p with heavier types to £93.
Heavy hoggs in general noticeably dearer by some £8-£10 often
£90-£105 depending on quality and weight, topping at £108.50.
Horned types again nicely sold often 179p-188p with 50 Scotch
Blackface hoggs to 195p from F Towers. Lightweights were well
bid for often £25-£30 over the weight, those hoggs short of
flesh finding homes for further finishing. A highlight of the
evening was the Annual Super Twos competition ably judged by
Mr John Nutter on behalf of J Penny & Sons of Leeds. A
marvelous show of 27 pairs were forward for judging with some
tough competition in the shippon for John to judge. The winner
was Clare Cropper with her 47kg Beltex x lambs selling to £152
or 330pkg to the judge. Congratulations to all vendors who took
part and well done on putting a quality show together.
