All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16–17, NIV Administrator and Board Conference Growing Great Teachers January 29–30, 2015 DoubleTree Resort, Lancaster, PA Dear School Leader, Date Dr. Roy Lowrie Jr. used to say, “Our teachers are the gold in the bank.” He held the profession of teaching as a high calling; he knew that if a school had great teachers its mission was on the way to fulfillment. Our conference theme this year is Growing Great Teachers. Our focus will be on mission-appropriate hiring, induction, and professional development. January 29–30, 2015 The idea of the theme came as I was reading The Best Teachers in the World: Why We Don’t Have Them and How We Could by John E. Chubb (2014, Hoover Institution Press). Each workshop will focus on an aspect of the theme, including a keynote address and workshops presented by Dr. Chubb. As you review the offerings, please note that there is a track specifically for early education directors and one for board members. Our opening keynote address will be given by Dr. Barrett Mosbacker, superintendent of Briarwood Christian School in Birmingham, AL. In July of this year, I heard Dr. Mosbacker give one of the most inspirational and informative addresses I have heard in my career. He will present a positive message of hope for Christian school educators, and you will not want to miss it. This conference has developed into one of the largest and most beneficial of its kind in the country. I strongly urge you to make it a priority in your professional development. The training provided this year will be appropriate for all heads of school, assistant heads, principals, division heads, lead teachers, and board members. The other consideration you may make is to provide the opportunity to those aspiring to any of these positions. I look forward to seeing you in beautiful Lancaster, PA, in January. John W. As teachers become learning coaches, students become selfdirected learners. Though effective coaching has always been an element of good teaching, it gains influence and importance when technology enters the classroom. What does effective 21st-century classroom instruction look like? How do we effectively utilize technology in the learning process and as a contributing means within a relevant instructional design? Through active engagement, this workshop will present and model technology-influenced instructional approaches that are applicable to any grade level and discipline. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. —2 Timothy 3:16–17, NIV Conference Workshop Presenters Dr. John Chubb, NAIS Developing Great Teachers John Chubb is president of the National Association of Independent Schools.
