Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Holy Cross Gala NEW LOCA LLOCATION OCATION OCA TION A Arrowhead rrowhead G Golf olf C Club lub W Wheaton, heaton, IIllinois llinois SAVE THE SAVE DATE DATE Saturday April 18, 2015 Monday, February 2nd 7:00PM in the church The priests of the Rockford Diocese will be attending the Winter Clergy Meetings this February. In previous years this would take place in St. Charles at Pheasant Run. Since they are undergoing remodeling, our meetings have been moved to a hotel in Wisconsin. This has presented a difficulty for having priests available to offer the Masses and Confession. Because of distance and lack of priests, we will NOT have Masses nor Confessions from Monday, February 9 through Wednesday, February 11. We asked the monks at Marmion and a number of other priests but, unfortunately, they are not able to assist. At our last deanery meeting this dilemma was raised. My brother pastors said they have cancelled Masses for this time period. We will have a Communion Service led by one of the deacons each morning at 6:30AM and on Wednesday Morning at 8:00AM. I thank you in advance for your understanding. On March 19th, the Solemnity of St. Joseph, we will offer a special evening Mass at 5:30PM followed by a healing service using St. Joseph’s Oil. This oil will be distributed as we did for St. Padre Pio’s feast day. We will also have our St. Joseph Table at 6:30PM in Donovan Hall. He is a very powerful intercessor. St. Teresa of Avila wrote, “Would that I could persuade all men to be devoted to this glorious Saint [St. Joseph], for I know by long experience what blessings he can obtain for us from God… It is now very many years since I began asking him for something on his feast, and I have always received it. If the petition was in any way amiss, he rectified it for my greater good . . .” Come and celebrate his feast day. For those who are interested, I, and a brother priest, have been asked to be the spiritual directors for a Marian Pilgrimage to Medjugorje this summer. We will pray many rosaries and chaplets along with daily Mass. If you are interested, please contact Mary’s Pilgrim at 317-888-0873. God bless you with His peace, Come spend some time in Song and Prayer with our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. 46th ANNUAL Fr. Catechism 101 - The Purpose of Man's Existence Q. Why did God make us? A. God made us to show forth His goodness and to share with us His everlasting happiness in heaven. Eye has not seen nor ear heard, nor has it entered into the heart of man, what things God has prepared for those who love him. (I Corinthians 2:9) We are currently observing Ordinary Time in our Church year. Ordinary Time is a time for growth and maturation. It is a time of conversion as we live our life with Christ. In other words, a time for change. This week the St. Michael Ministry of Compassionate Care would like to share some thoughts of gratitude and change with you. Thank You! Have you noticed how neat and tidy the Church looks recently when you arrive to be with our Lord? After more than three years, it was time for the prayer cards to go. They have served their purpose. As Ecclesiastes says, "There's a time and a place for everything", but so that you are aware, the prayers and responses for the Mass are found in both the St. Michael Hymnal and the Seasonal Missalette, if you so desire them. It is with much thankfulness that we acknowledge your kindness with helping us to keep our Lord's home looking nice by your assistance with the hymnals and missalettes. If everyone would kindly replace these books on their side in the pew book racks, it will not only look uniform, neat and tidy, but it will also preserve the wear and tear on the hymnals and missalettes. Our Lord deserves our efforts to keep His home beautiful at all times. Thank you for assisting with this change. New Pastor! New Year! New Policy! Going forward, there will no longer be Visitations held in the narthex of Holy Cross Catholic Church before Funeral Masses or Memorial Masses. This decision has been made because of the importance to provide dignity, love, respect and reverence for our Lord at all times, both in the Church and in our Adoration Chapel. Following much prayerful consideration, we have come to realize that we are a Catholic Church, we are not a funeral home. Everyone's respect of our Holy Cross regulations is greatly appreciated. Resurrection Choir! The Resurrection Choir is composed of parishioners who volunteer their time and talents to sing at our Funeral Masses and Memorial Masses. We are excited to announce that we have recently been blessed with several new faces and new voices who have joined our choir! We welcome you and thank you for your sharing and caring! The families of the deceased are always very impressed and grateful for the beauty of our Resurrection Choir as their voices truly enhance our Funeral Liturgy very much. This is an ideal arrangement for anyone to consider as you come to sing when you are available to sing. Please think about joining our Resurrection Choir! All are welcome! Those who sing...are praying twice and are twice blessed! Mark Your Calendar! The St. Michael Ministry of Compassionate Care is pleased to announce that we have scheduled our End of Life Issues and Funeral Practicalities presentation. It will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2015 at 7:00PM in the Church. We are presenting this most informative and educational evening for the entire parish and anyone who is interested! Please plan to join us for this special Lenten program. Watch for more information in the coming bulletins. As stated at the beginning of this article, to live is to change. Change is not easy, but it is through the changes of life that we grow. It takes courage to change. God gives us the strength, wisdom and courage to accept the changes that we face, if we only ask Him for His grace and mercy! Jesus, I trust in You! Let us pray: God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, The courage to change the things that I can, And the wisdom to know the difference. Amen. The next Dedicated Suffering meeting will gather on Saturday, February 7th in the CECC Library following the 8:30AM Mass. Remember: The Funeral Liturgy Team is willing to meet with any parishioners who would like to pre-plan their Funeral Liturgy. This is a great gift of love for yourself and for your family. We will gladly meet with you at your convenience, just call to arrange an appointment with Mary Ann Sestak at 630-879-8525. 8 G OD HAS GIVEN US SO MUCH ; IN RETURN , WE ARE CALLED TO SHARE OUR BLESSINGS OF TIME , TALENT AND TREASURE THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUED S U P P O R T O F H O LY C R O S S !
