Ward NEH Public Scholar Program Gus Kousoulas Executive Director Sponsored Programs [email protected] Gretchen Stein Rhodes Office of Research Advancement [email protected] Crissie Johnson Molina Office of Research Advancement [email protected] Randy Duran Director, Undergraduate Research [email protected] Scott Moreau Business Manager [email protected] Receipt Deadline March 3, 2015 for Projects Beginning October 2015 The Public Scholar program supports well-researched books in the humanities intended to reach a broad readership. Although humanities scholarship can be specialized, the humanities also strive to engage broad audiences in exploring subjects of general interest. They seek to deepen our understanding of the human condition as well as current conditions and contemporary problems. The Public Scholar program aims to encourage scholarship that will be of broad interest and have lasting impact. Such scholarship might present a narrative history, tell the stories of important individuals, analyze significant texts, provide a synthesis of ideas, revive interest in a neglected subject, or examine the latest thinking on a topic. Books supported by this program must be grounded in humanities research and scholarship. They must address significant humanities themes likely to be of broad interest and must be written in a readily accessible style. Making use of primary and/or secondary sources, they should open up important and appealing subjects for wider audiences. The challenge is to make sense of a significant topic in a way that will appeal to general readers. LEEC Accepting Grant Proposals The Louisiana Department of Wildlife & Fisheries’ Environmental Education Commission (LEEC) is now accepting proposals for their 2015-2016 Grants Program. The submission deadline is March 16, 2015. Applications will be accepted via electronic submission only. University Research Grants - Post-graduate research with a focus on environmental issues - Those eligible: Students attending Louisiana colleges or universities and who are working toward a Masters, Ph.D., or conducting Ph.D. research are eligible to apply on behalf of their school - Maximum award: $1,200 For more information on these grants or the 2015 Environmental Education State Symposium, visit our web-site at: http://www.wlf.louisiana.gov/eec. The solicitation encourages creative partnerships between academic, non-profit, and industrial organizations. The following is a synopsis of what the EDT initiative hopes to support: This solicitation received its first round of proposals in Fall 2014, and NSF anticipates making the first awards this spring. The second round of proposals will be due in July 2015. 2 This NSF solicitation is well within the UIDP mission scope and its timing is ideal for the new UIDP organization. The UIDP can partner with an interested subset of our UIDP member organizations in a myriad of ways. University members may be interested as serving as prime, and team with other UIDP member universities, industries, and the new UIDP nonprofit as subs. Examples of UIDP organization involvement as a sub could be: • development of a series of webinars • focused UIDP training programs (UIDP Academy) for candidates • creation of a short primer on non-academic careers • coordination of university-industry internship or any other ideas that seek to promote U-I engagement and workforce development matters. Solicitation of Research Problem Statements Deadline extended - February 13, 2015 The Louisiana Transportation Research Center is beginning its biennial solicitation of research problem statements. These problems will form the basis for the research program for the next two years. This effort is essential to the successful development and management of the department’s research program. It is your chance as our transportation partners/customers to make a difference and optimize benefits to our industry. We welcome both applied and theoretical problem statements and also problems that require technical assistance. Please distribute this solicitation to appropriate personnel within your organization. Research problem statements should be submitted through the LTRC web site at the following link: http://projectmanagement.ltrc.lsu.edu/ProblemStatement/SubmitProblemStatement.aspx. Problem statements are also being solicited from LaDOTD personnel. Research Problem Identification Committees (RPICs) comprised of department, university and industry personnel will be appointed according to technical or management areas depending on the content of problem statements submitted. They will be tasked to review and to prioritize the ideas submitted. Each problem statement will be prioritized according to need and implementation potential. The top rated problem statements from each RPIC will be again rated and prioritized by the Research Advisory Committee (RAC) comprised of the RPIC chairs and other section and district personnel from the department. The RAC will provide a prioritized selection of problems proposed for study. Please feel free to contact Mr. Mark Morvant, Associate Director, Research (225-767-9124) for any questions about the process or for assistance in completing the problem statement forms.
