In The Face Of Rising Drug Abuse Civic Representatives From County, City
And Community Organizations Converge To Chart A Drug Free 2015
At a time when some are declaring the war on drugs to be lost,

Hosted by the Church of Scientology Los Angeles, the Open House

government officials including
LAPD Commander Dennis Kato;
at-risk-youth specialist and author
of book Love Loudly, Mark Cripe
and Executive Director of CADFY

LAPD Commander Kato touched

“I applaud the Church of Scientology for taking on the Truth About
Drugs program, because from 28
years of experience, I’ve learned
we cannot arrest our way out of
this problem. The only way we can
stop it is to educate our younger
children on the effects of drugs
and hope they make a conscious
decision not to use them.”

Intuition is an inner knowing, a
subtle voice that sends you ideas
and certainties, helping to guide
you through life. Your intuition
can communicate with you on
many different levels, and sometimes it could be difficult to distinguish its messages if you don’t
pay attention, and open yourself
to receive them.
The information that the intuition
provides arrives to you when you
are present, your mind is quiet,
and you ask for it. Intuition can
come to you when you are meditating, dreaming, still, reflecting,
but also in the middle of an activity you are doing, when you are
totally focused, and when you
least expect it to happen.
Your intuition can also make
itself known as a body sensation, (your body is highly intuitive), a feeling, a sign, an image,
a word, or you can hear it like a
voice inside of you. Sometimes
it requires practice to be in tune
with your intuition because it can
make itself present through a different intention than the one that
already resides inside of you.
Don’t have any doubt that the

wisdom of the intuition is always
helpful. It knows what you don’t
know yet and will never lie to
you. The secret is to learn how
to distinguish your intuition from
the voice of your ego, from your
need to be right, or from your
stubbornness. Intuition always
speaks with a loving voice.
You have an inner guide, your
higher self, and your intuition
connects you with it. Intuition is
the voice of your soul. It is much
more than a hunch, a gut feeling, or a sensation. It is to know
something without knowing how
you know it. It is not your rational

comes from a different place than
a rational thought.

Reflections, The End and The Beginning of 2015
I read an article in the paper about
the concept of the New Year.
Time as we know it, is based on
the circulation of earth around the
sun, and of the moon around the
earth. We calculate seasons by
our rotation around the sun, and
night and day by the rotation of
the moon around the earth. As
profound as this is, many people
take the days and the seasons for
granted. It happens for a reason
and it is scientifically based on our
presence in the universe.
The transition of humans from
nomads to settled communities
meant that agriculture and animals
had to be domesticated and calculated, and this is when the calendar
emerged – to give order to the passage of time. Reverend Bob Oshita, a Buddhist minister from Sacramento researched and found the
concept of the “New Year” means
the “beginning of a new cycle of
seasons to plant, cultivate and harvest life sustaining crops.”
So here we are, at an end and at a
beginning. There are different dates
of end and beginning, depending
on one’s belief and religion. To me,
there are several dates that stand
out – included are December 8,
the day when Siddhartha became
Sakyamuni Buddha; December 31,
the evening in Japan when a bell is
struck 108 times to signify the end
of the old year and the beginning
of the new year; January 1, a day
and time to reflect a life of gratitude
and joy; February 4th, the solar
new year, the first day of spring according to the feng shui calendar;
and February 19, the Chinese New
Year 2015, the beginning of the lunar new year. Graduation is a New
Year marker, as is birth and death,
and celebrated dates personal to
you. Though life can be termed
infinite, we mark the end and the
beginning of life here.
So honor the end, and prepare for
a new beginning – a new cycle to
plant, cultivate and harvest life-sustaining crops. It’s your chance to
harvest a new yield of abundance.

SCE Warns Its Customers To Guard Against
Strangers Seeking Access To Their Homes
Your doorbell rings and two
men are standing on your
porch claiming to be with
Southern California Edison
(SCE).
Wearing shirts with an SCE
logo, they say you need to
leave your home immediately because of unsafe conditions. You promptly leave
only to return a short time
later to discover your home
has been burglarized.
This is what happened recently to an SCE customer,
and law enforcement officials say utility worker impostors attempting to gain
access to individuals’ homes
occur all too often.
SCE and law enforcement
officials remind customers
to always ask for identification when a stranger comes
to your door or calls claiming
to be a utility worker. Legitimate SCE workers will pro-

SCE. “We always warn customers to not let
an individual in their home if they don’t have
a scheduled appointment.”
SCE does contract work with third-party
companies to perform tasks such as pole
inspections and specific infrastructure projects. They typically have the SCE logo/insignia affixed to the door of their vehicle and
some may carry SCE ID. However, if you
have concerns, call the SCE call center at
1-800-655-4555 before allowing individuals
onto your property. SCE representatives are

vide verification, including
their department and telephone number when asked.
In many cases, home visits by SCE personnel are
scheduled by the customers
and the utility will confirm the
appointment in writing. Customers typically will receive
advanced notice with a postcard, door hanger or phone
call when SCE is going to
perform scheduled work in
an area that might affect service.
But what should you do if
someone claiming to be
with SCE shows up unannounced at your door? How
can you be sure the individual is legitimate or not?
“It’s always in a customer’s
best interest to not provide
access to their home and to
call our Customer Service
Call Center at 1-800-6554555 to inquire if there’s a
purpose for an individual to
be at their home,” said Kari
Here are some additional safety tips to guard
against potential scams and impostors:
• Be suspicious if someone shows up without an appointment asking to check your
appliances, your home’s wiring or any other
electrical problem they claim may be inside
your home.
• If SCE is going to perform scheduled work
in an area that might affect service, customers always receive advanced notice via
a postcard, door hanger or phone call. In
emergency situations, when repair work is
needed, advance notice cannot be provided.
• SCE employees carry photo ID badges
while on the job. Ask to see identification and
know the purpose of their visit.
• Customers can visit SCE’s Facebook and
Twitter pages to post questions and get answers to their inquiries during regular business hours.
• SCE customers should call the Customer
Service Call Center at 1-800-655-4555 to
report suspicious phone calls or visitors
claiming to be with the utility. The call center
operates 24/7.

The King, right!? The
crowd gathered with
excitement,
awaiting
Mr. Smiley to see just
exactly what he had to
share, besides, this is a
story about Dr. King that
hasn’t been told, well,
we haven’t heard.
Tavis took to the stage very comfortably and once he began, his
passion for telling Dr, King’s story
grew, so did the crowd with curiosity and real interest in hearing what
he had to say. Tavis only had thirty
minutes to speak; he gave at least
twenty minutes for Q&A from the
audience, though most of his an-
swers to the general basic questions
could be found in his speech. But
what Tavis Smiley shared, was very
enlightening, intellectually arousing
and shockingly sad; with what Tavis
gave us, you can’t help but want to
read the book, as he provided pertinent information way beyond what
we knew, way beyond the “I Have A

able to adopt a refurbished teddy bear
or to present donated new bears to
lonely, sick and homeless children.
Volunteers will also distribute teddy
bears to seniors in hospitals and convalescent homes as well as on Skid
Row to provide the sick and disenfranchised with comfort and cheer.
Dr. Coppertino added, “Many of our
teddy bears come from broken homes
or are left abandoned or discarded by
their previous owners. Other teddy bears are simply donated to us after
experiencing neglect or abuse.”
Dr. Coppertino said that “surgeons”
will repair and refurbish abandoned
teddy bears that need a new home.
“We just received a teddy bear from
Egypt,” said Dr. Coppertino. “When we
receive these donated teddy bears,
many times they have missing ears
and limbs, battered noses, torn feet,
damaged paws and missing body fur
which will be repaired by skilled “surgical” hands,” she said.
Invited guests were enthusiastic
about the hospital and expressed their
support.
“Mercy Mission feels that no bear
should ever have to leave surgery
or extensive repair services without
knowing they have a loving family
waiting to welcome them with loving
arms and willing to care for them,” added Dr. Coppertino, who said that
the hospital will be accepting teddy
bears from around the world.
“When you put love on the table, it
never fails,” Dr. Coppertino added.
Guests were treated to a gourmet
brunch that featured sushi, oysters,
crab, prime rib, fish, fresh fruit and delectable desserts.
Dr. Coppertino is also seeking volunteers and resources for Mercy Mission
Bear Hospital. To donate bears or for

NOTICE OF PETITION TO
ADMINISTER ESTATE OF
JOSEPH EDWARD ROSAS
Case No. BP158759
To all heirs, beneficiaries, creditors, contingent creditors, and
persons who may otherwise be interested in the will or estate,
or both, of JOSEPH EDWARD ROSAS
A PETITION FOR PROBATE has been filed by Jorge Edmundo
Rosas in the Superior Court of California, County of LOS ANGELES.
THE PETITION FOR PROBATE requests that Jorge Edmundo
Rosas be appointed as personal representative to administer
the estate of the decedent.
THE PETITION requests authority to administer the estate
under the Independent Administration of Estates Act. (This
authority will allow the personal representative to take many
actions without obtaining court approval. Before taking certain
very important actions, however, the personal representative
will be required to give notice to interested persons unless they
have waived notice or consented to the proposed action.) The
independent administration authority will be granted unless an
interested person files an objection to the petition and shows
good cause why the court should not grant the authority.
A HEARING on the petition will be held on Feb. 2, 2015 at 8:30
AM in Dept. No. 9 located at 111 N. Hill St., Los Angeles, CA
90012.
IF YOU OBJECT to the granting of the petition, you should
appear at the hearing and state your objections or file written
objections with the court before the hearing. Your appearance
may be in person or by your attorney.
IF YOU ARE A CREDITOR or a contingent creditor of the decedent, you must file your claim with the court and mail a copy
to the personal representative appointed by the court within the
later of either (1) four months from the date of first issuance of
letters to a general personal representative, as defined in section 58(b) of the California Probate Code, or (2) 60 days from
the date of mailing or personal delivery to you of a notice under
section 9052 of the California Probate Code.
Other California statutes and legal authority may affect your
rights as a creditor. You may want to consult with an attorney
knowledgeable in California law.
YOU MAY EXAMINE the file kept by the court. If you are a
person interested in the estate, you may file with the court a
Request for Special Notice (form DE-154) of the filing of an
inventory and appraisal of estate assets or of any petition or
account as provided in Probate Code section 1250. A Request
for Special Notice form is available from the court clerk.

NOTICE OF PETITION TO ADMINISTER
ESTATE OF HILDA CASTELLANOS
Case No. BP156357
To all heirs, beneficiaries, creditors, contingent creditors, and
persons who may otherwise be interested in the will or estate,
or both, of HILDA CASTELLANOS
A PETITION FOR PROBATE has been filed by Celeste
Lopez in the Superior Court of California, County of LOS
ANGELES.
THE PETITION FOR PROBATE requests that Celeste Lopez
be appointed as personal representative to administer the
estate of the decedent.
THE PETITION requests authority to administer the estate
under the Independent Administration of Estates Act. (This
authority will allow the personal representative to take
many actions without obtaining court approval. Before taking certain very important actions, however, the personal
representative will be required to give notice to interested
persons unless they have waived notice or consented to the
proposed action.) The independent administration authority
will be granted unless an interested person files an objection
to the petition and shows good cause why the court should
not grant the authority.
A HEARING on the petition will be held on Feb. 3, 2015 at
8:30AM in Dept. No. 11 located at 111 N. Hill St., Los Angeles, CA 90012.
IF YOU OBJECT to the granting of the petition, you should
appear at the hearing and state your objections or file written
objections with the court before the hearing. Your appearance may be in person or by your attorney.
IF YOU ARE A CREDITOR or a contingent creditor of the
decedent, you must file your claim with the court and mail a
copy to the personal representative appointed by the court
within the later of either (1) four months from the date of first
issuance of letters to a general personal representative, as
defined in section 58(b) of the California Probate Code, or (2)
60 days from the date of mailing or personal delivery to you of
a notice under section 9052 of the California Probate Code.
A Request for Special Notice form is available from the court clerk.

outstanding liens that may exist on this property by contacting the county recorder’s office or a title insurance company,
either of which may charge you a fee for this information. If you
consult either of these resources, you should be aware that
the same lender may hold more than one mortgage or deed
of trust on the property. NOTICE TO PROPERTY OWNER:
The sale date shown on this notice of sale may be postponed
one or more times by the mortgagee, beneficiary, trustee, or a

your sale date has been postponed, and, if applicable, the rescheduled time and date for the sale of this property, you may
call, 916-939-0772 for information regarding the trustee’s sale

be reflected in the telephone information or on the internet
Web site. The best way to verify postponement information
is to attend the scheduled sale. If the Trustee is unable to
convey title for any reason, the successful bidder’s sole and
exclusive remedy shall be the return of monies paid to the
Trustee and the successful bidder shall have no further recourse. NBS Default Services, LLC 301 E. Ocean Blvd. Suite
