s you will probably be aware, there is no longer any Government funding for Adult and Community Education in schools.
We are pleased however to offer a small, quality programme.
All our classes are held in the evenings, or at weekends, and are taught by teachers who are very experienced and
knowledgeable in their field of expertise. All our teachers are also experienced in teaching adults.
Our classes have limited enrolments – classes have a maximum class size of between six and fifteen participants, apart from
the Life Drawing and Yoga classes which will be slightly larger.

Tutor: Alan Gunn
Life drawing is the drawing and study of the undraped human figure both male and
female. This class is informally taught: students are encouraged to find the media,
scale and expression, which comes most naturally to them. Assistance and advice
is given on the basis of individual need, rather than a prescribed course which
all are expected to follow. Students wishing to join the group will find support and
encouragement, and have the option of having paper supplied for an additional $30
fee, or bringing their own.
The Monday class starting in February is oversubscribed as a large number of 2014
participants are returning in 2015. At the time of printing, there are vacancies in the
Tuesday class. For more information on both classes, and to enrol, please use our

industry, Kirsty packed her bags and moved to Christchurch to retrain in photography.
Having completed a Diploma in Professional Photography at CPIT, she was offered
the Artist in Residence position at the school where she spent another year honing her
skills. Kirsty is now a working photographer in Christchurch, where she has a number of

tutor will visit you in your own home and give you advice and guidance using your
own computer. When we receive your enrolment, Andrew will contact you to arrange
a suitable time to visit.

home computers and is passionate about helping people to make the most of what,
for many people, is a new technology.
Create Your Own Website
Tutor: Peter Thomson
Perhaps you have a sports team you could design and build a website for? Or, you
could set up a website for a friend's wedding. Students who complete this course
will leave with their own complete website. Along the way you will learn fundamental
web page building techniques such as HTML tags, CSS stylesheets, and the basics
of web and user interface design.
We will work with an actual server and publish your site to the web. You will also
be shown a range of free tools to allow you to set yourself up at home, building
websites.
All attendees will find that the work is fun, challenging and achievable. Students
with some previous experience may be shown some javascript programming or
CSS animation to enhance the web experience. By the end of the unit of study you
will be able to build websites for yourself, friends and family.
This course is suitable for people with some experience with computers and is
recommended for beginners wishing to tackle the upcoming courses on Web Design
and Programming for the Web.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email Peter Thomson at info@

Web Design
Tutor: Peter Thomson
Design and build static HTML websites and learn key design principles for web. We
will look closely at layout in relation to responsive design for multiple screens and
devices. We will also cover typography, colour for web, some basic user-interface
design and how to achieve desired effects in CSS and Javascript.
The course will focus on design -in-browser, where a site design is roughly mocked
up, then it is built onto an HTML frame and skinned with the final design. You will
learn how to work with computer graphic design software to develop key design
elements. By the end of the unit of study you will be able to design and build static
HTML websites to suit any audience.
This is an ideal follow-on from the "Create Your Own Website" course, and you will

The course begins with some key programming fundamentals, to show you how
software is built. From there we begin to develop a solid library of code which will
allow you to build any simple web application using dynamic information stored in
a database. We will then take these key concepts and apply them to Javascript, so
you can learn how to make interesting things happen on your pages.
You will need to have a basic grasp of HTML and CSS and this can be gained from
the Create Your Own Website or Web Design classes in Terms One and Two.
By the end of the unit of study you will be able to build dynamic websites using the
most popular open-source web programming language, php. You will also learn
how to work with a framework such as WordPress.
This is an ideal follow-on from the "Create Your Own Website" course, and you will
