It’s 2015! Wow! It even sounds like a good number!
Doesn’t it seem like not long ago we were worried
about a world on the brink of disaster as we entered
the new millennium, the flip of the calendar from
the 1900s to the year 2000? Instead, it went rather
smoothly, didn’t it? We had lots of news stories with
dire predictions and projections. For the most part, it
was just another new day in a new year.
The benefit of the new year, however, is the golden
opportunity to look back, look forward and evaluate.

SiCA, Dec. 8 monthly meeting – Palm Beach Shores and
Riviera Beach Police Department updates and presentations.
Planning and Zoning (P&Z) meeting on Dec. 11 and
commented on the proposed code changes, and SICA
President Ann Rettie spoke in favor of the proposed changes.
The Planning and Zoning Board voted 5-1 to adopt the 1997
CCCL and also to allow no exemptions from that line. The
issue now goes to city council for a vote.
Several other important issues were raised at the P&Z
meeting that SICA will be following up on, including urging
city council to properly address the impact of the new CCCL
on existing properties and to revisit density provisions for
Singer Island in the city’s governing comprehensive plan.

We have something called “the Rotary Effect.” This is
where we not only work on our committed projects such as
polio eradication, sustainable clean water, healthy mothers
and babies and projects promoting peace and education.
We are able to multiply the impact of these programs by
partnering with such esteemed organizations as the Bill and
Melinda Gates Foundation, the World Health Organization,
the United Nations, Goodwill, UNICEF and the Peace Corps.
As you can see, we are in pretty good company and in an

which is the line of attack normally taken if a primary
treatment has failed to remove all of the prostate cancer. It is
an approach filled with misconceptions and fraught with its
own set of risks.
Smith recently co-authored a paper that reviewed years
of clinical experience in Androgen Deprivation Therapy. His
presentation of the results will offer valuable information to
patients evaluating this alternative.
According to the 2014 projections provided by the
American Cancer Society, approximately 230,000 cases of
prostate cancer will be diagnosed and an estimated 27,000
men will die from it. It is important to bear in mind, however,
that more than 2.5 million men who were previously
diagnosed with prostate cancer are very much alive and
receiving treatment of one kind or another. Making educated
decisions regarding your treatment is often key to success!

Eighth Annual Palm Beach Wine Auction To Feature
Rare Vintages And Renowned Chefs For An Evening
Of Unparalleled Elegance
Amid the pageantry of the Palm
Beach winter gala season, one event
stands out as so exquisitely unique, it
earns raves not only from its impressive
guest list but from industry insiders
who have proclaimed it “The ultimate
luxury experience for any food, wine
or spirit lover willing to support a great
educational cause.”
That event is the Palm Beach Wine Auction, celebrating
its eighth year on Jan. 29 at the incomparable Mar-a-Lago
Club, Palm Beach. More than 200 guests will gather with
goblet-shaped paddles to bid on amazingly rare vintages
while sampling the finest cuisine by a team of world-class
chefs.
Since its inception, the auction has raised more than
$2 million for the education programs at the Raymond F.
Kravis Center for the Performing Arts in West Palm Beach.
Such programs include the S*T*A*R
(Students and Teachers Arts Resource)
Series, which brings thousands of
students to the Kravis Center each
year for diverse performances in
theater, dance and music.
“To reach out and help with
opening a child’s mind to the
performing arts is not just a cause, but an ongoing obligation,”
said Palm Beach Wine Auction Chair Ted Mandes. “That is
the mission of the Palm Beach Wine Auction; this exclusive
event provides us the opportunity to involve a worldwide
audience who values performing arts and create awareness
of the Kravis Center’s education programs that are so vital
to our youth today.”

the success of the Palm Beach Wine Auction, which has
established itself as the ultimate luxury experience for
any food, wine or spirit lover willing to support a great
educational cause,” said Yves de Launay, vice president of
Prestige Brands, including Remy Martin.
The evening’s five-course dinner will include sublime fare
