Island Update: Singer Island Rotary The Singer Island Civic Association (SICA) has worked to protect and enhance our beautiful island since 1967. We support worthy local organizations (see pictures of recent donations to two of those organizations – the Riviera Beach Maritime Academy and Dawn Pardo’s Books Come to Life initiative); we inform our community about news, issues and events; we connect local residents; and we advocate for those issues most critical to our island’s way of SiCA Board member Beethoven Francois, ICYG founder Malachi life both today and tomorrow. Doesn’t it seem like not long ago we were worried about a world on the brink of disaster as we entered the new millennium, the flip of the calendar from the 1900s to the year 2000? Instead, it went rather smoothly, didn’t it? We had lots of news stories with dire predictions and projections. For the most part, it was just another new day in a new year. The benefit of the new year, however, is the golden opportunity to look back, look forward and evaluate. Was last year all that you had hoped it would be? What could have been better? Did you miss opportunities to improve your life and the lives of others? That is opportunity that cannot be any more important. Resolve this new year not just the usual, routine pledges to knock off a few pounds or walk a few extra steps. Resolve to become an active partner in creating a better world. Do that by joining Rotary. There are 1,220,115 Rotarians worldwide in 34,558 clubs. Locally, these are your neighbors, friends and community leaders. Internationally, they are sports and entertainment legends, inventors, business and political leaders and Nobel Prize laureates.
