SERIES HISTORY -- TIGERS VS USF
This is the 19th meeting in the series between
Memphis and USF. The Tigers lead the overall series,
12-6, but USF has won four straight in the series history, dating back to the 2004-05 year (the last year
both teams were in Conference USA).
USF swept the series last year, winning 71-58 in the
last game played in the Elma Roane Fieldhouse, then
winning a home game in Tampa, 91-68.
The Bulls also got the jump on the series lead this
year, winning 72-39 over the Tigers in a game played
in Tampa on New Year’s Eve.
IN OUR LAST MEETING
Memphis had an ice cold start on the offensive end
in the last meeting with USF. The Tigers forced turnovers on the first three USF possessions of the game,
but could not get their own offense going, shooting
18.8 percent (6-for-32) in the opening half.
The Tigers shot better in the second half, but the
41-15 halftime deficit proved insurmountable, and
Memphis fell to 0-2 in league play with the loss.
Mooriah Rowser was the lone Tiger in double digit
scoring, finishing with 13 points on 5-for-14 shooting.
HEARN MOVES TO 17TH ON ALL-TIME LIST
With her nine points in the win at Cincinnati, junior
guard Ariel Hearn moved to 17th on the career scoring list at Memphis with 1,303 points.
She also now ranks seventh in school history in
three-point field goals made (140).
FUQUA-BEY JUST SHY OF DOUBLE-DOUBLE
Junior forward Asianna Fuqua-Bey just missed her
second double-double of the season in the win at Cincinnati, finishing with 15 points and nine rebounds on
7-for-9 shooting from the field. She also tied for the
team lead for Memphis with three assists and two
steals in 28 minutes of play.
In the last two games, the junior has answered the
coaching staff’s challenge to look to score more. In
the two wins, she was 9-for-12 from the field (75.0
percent) and averaged 10 points and 7 rebounds in
the two wins while playing under 30 minutes in each
game.
ROWSER LOOKING FOR NUMBER 500
Speaking of warming up from the field in the last
two games, redshirt sophomore Mooriah Rowser
has snapped out of a scoring drought in a strong way
for the Tigers. After going 0-for-11 in the two games
against Cincinnati and East Carolina, she has gone 12for-26 in the two wins (over Houston and at Cincinnati) to put together back-to-back double-digit outings
for the first time since the first two conference games
of the season (vs. Temple and at USF).
Rowser is now just 15 points shy of her 500th career point heading in to the second meeting with USF.
She has played in 54 career games after missing most
of her true freshman season due to a knee injury suffered in the early minutes of third game of her freshman year.
CHANGE OF ROLE FOR HEARN
In the early part of the conference schedule, the
Tigers utilized Ariel Hearn mostly at the two-guard
spot. The hand injury suffered by Breigha Wilder-Cochran in the first game with USF changed that. Memphis started freshman Amber Holmes in the next
game (a win vs. East Carolina), but in the three games
that Wilder-Cochran missed, Hearn ran the point for
the Tigers.
Even with Wilder-Cochran back in the lineup,
Hearn has spent a lot of time at the point. In the last
six games, she has handed out six or more assists in
three games and is averaging 34.8 minutes a game in
that same stretch.
BATTLE ON THE BOARDS
Memphis will have its hands full on the glass Saturday. USF comes in to the second meeting with
Memphis ranked No. 30 in the country with a +7.5
rebounding advantage and ranked fifth in the country
with 31.0 defensive rebounds a game.
In the last game, the Bulls finished with a 51-28 rebounding advantage.
In addition to a Bullls offense that ranked 92nd in
the country by averaging 69.5 points per game, USF
has held its opponents to just 59.3 points per game,
which ranks 68th in the country.
Inside, the Bulls’ defense ranks 92nd in the country
with 5.2 blocks per game.
HEARN POWERS OFFENSE AGAINST HOUSTON
The Tigers went three games in the conference
schedule without starting point guard Breigha
Wilder-Cochran. While that hurt the Tigers’ defense
(Wilder-Cochran is the primary ball-handler defender), Memphis may have found some pace with Ariel
Hearn taking over the point guard duties.
Against Houston, Hearn turned up the offensive
speed and finished with 21 points and seven assists.
The seven assists was the most for a Tiger player this
season (Hearn also had 7 assists in the loss at Tulsa, a
game Wilder-Cochran missed due to injury).
Wilder-Cochran responded in her return to the
lineup with a 10 point effort in the loss at East Carolina, but then was 4-for-5 from the floor in the win over
Houston, her best shooting percentage this season.
LEANING ON THE DEFENSE
While the Tiger offense bogged down as the team
approached the mid-point of the conference schedule, the defense has held the Tigers in games, allowing Memphis to pick up low-scoring wins against East
Carolina (60-57) and Cincinnati (41-38).
Memphis is holding opponents to 59.7 points per
game and to a 37.6 percent clip from field goal range.
LEARNING TO WIN CLOSE GAMES
A young Tiger squad is still learning how to pull
out close games. Of the Tigers’ nine losses, five have
been by single digits, including the one-point loss to
Temple in the conference opener. Those five Memphis single digit losses have added up to a combined
23 points.
Memphis is 5-5 in single-digit games following the
three point win over Cincinnati in the last meeting between the two teams.
EARNING TRIPS TO THE LINE
In the last five games, the Tigers have given their
opponents a lot of scoring opportunities with the
clock stopped. Tiger opponents have attempted 98
free-throws in the last five games (hitting 74.5 percent), while Memphis has attempted just 82 (hitting
just 54.9 percent).
WILLIAMS WORKING IN STARTING LINEUP
Sophomore Taylor Williams made her first career
start last year as a freshman against Connecticut, so
not much fazes her as she as now played in 50 career
college games.
Williams, who played high school ball on a team
coached by her dad, has been a part of the Tigers’
starting lineup in nine games, including the last seven
straight.
Memphis is 7-2 with Williams in the starting lineup
and the sophomore has been on the verge of becoming a double-digit scorer the Tiger offense needs for
more balance. In the last six games, she has hit the
nine point plateau twice.
Her six rebounds in the Houston win were the second-highest mark of the season. The five defensive
boards she grabbed was a season-best.
WRIGHT OFFSETS LOW SCORING NIGHT
Brianna Wright posted her fourth double-double of
the season, finishing with 11 points and 14 rebounds
in the first game against Cincinnati.

Tigers scored in the win over Cincinnati were the fewest-ever scored by Memphis in a victory.
That 41 point mark was just two points from the
previous lowest-total points in a win -- 43 in a 43-26
win over Murray State in the 1972-73 season.
Wright’s 14 rebounds in the low-scoring win was
her seventh double-digit rebounding effort of the
season.
‘WRIGHTING’ THE OFFENSE
Junior post Brianna Wright is one of the Tigers’
leading high-percentage shooters from the field,
shooting 50 percent on 128 shot attempts so far this
year. The Tigers’ introduction to Wright this year, after she transferred to Memphis from Chipola Junior
College, has been learning how to get her scoring opportunities outside of offensive rebounds.
Wright was 5-for-7 from the floor in the win over
Houston. She had three offensive rebounds and finished with 12 points, including a jumper at the halftime buzzer off an offensive board.
BEYOND THE ARC
In the Tigers’ first two games of the season, five
different players (Hearn, Rowser, Williams, Creighton
and Wilder-Cochran) landed a three-point field goal.
So imagine the Tiger coaching staff’s surprise when
at game #18 on the season (the loss at ECU), just one
player had double-digit three-point field goals made
(Hearn with 38).
In the last meeting with Cincinnati, the Tigers did
not hit a single field goal attempt (of five tries). The
Tigers are hoping that Brea Elmore or Taylor Williams,
who both landed triples in the win over Houston, can
help take some of the defense out to the perimeter
for the posts inside.
Memphis was also a woeful 5-for-13 from the freethrow line in the last meeting with Cincinnati (38.5
percent).
BUILDING OFF TOUGH NON-CONFERENCE
SLATE
Memphis has a 20-win season and a post-season
bid as a team goal this year. And the Tigers’ have
been well-tested to date, having already faced nine
teams in the top 100 in the latest NCAA RPI Report.
In all, Memphis will play 12 games this season against
teams currently ranked in the top 100.

FUQUA-BEY NAMED TO WEEKLY HONOR
ROLL
Junior forward Asianna Fuqua-Bey was named
to the American’s weekly honor roll after back-toback double-digit games on the road last week. That
marked her fifth and sixth double-digit games this
year and just the second time this season she has
strung together back-to-back double-digit outings.
Her 18 points in the loss at Tulsa was a season-best
and missed her career high by just three points. She
was 9-for-11 from the field (shooting 81.8 percent)
and upped her scoring average to 9.0 ppg for the season.
She also added seven rebounds, including five off
the offensive glass, in the loss.
She has scored double digit points in three straight
games one time before (last season).
Fuqua-Bey is the fourth different Tiger to earn a
weekly honor roll mention this season (Ariel Hearn,
Breigha Wilder-Cochran, Mooriah Rowser).
HEARN NAMED TO AMERICAN WEEKLY
UNIVERSITY OF MEMPHIS
HONOR ROLL
Junior guard Ariel Hearn was named to the American Athletic Conference weekly honor roll after scoring 26 points in the overtime win over East Carolina.
Hearn passed the 1,200 career point mark in the
ECU win and her 26 point effort was her 21st career
20-point game. It was her first 20-plus point game
since scoring 20 or more in three straight games
(Minnesota, Southern Illinois, UALR).
She is the third Tiger to earn a spot on the conference’s weekly honor roll. Mooriah Rowser and
Breigha Wilder-Cochran also have earned weekly
honors from the American this season.
FUQUA-BEY JOINS 500-500 CLUB
Junior forward Asianna Fuqua-Bey grabbed eight
rebounds in the win over East Carolina on Sunday afternoon. Those eight boards pushed her past 500 for
her career, making her just the 25th player in Memphis’ 43-year women’s basketball history to have over
500 career points and 500 career rebounds.
Heading in to the first meeting with Cincinnati,
Fuqua-Bey has 610 career points and 515 career rebounds. Of her 515 career boards, 60.2 percent (310)
have come off the defensive glass.
DOUBLE-DOUBLE FOR WRIGHT
With the Tigers’ guards struggling to score, Memphis looked to its posts for some offensive help in the
Temple game. Junior forward Brianna Wright stepped
up with a season-best 18 points on 8-for-13 shooting.
She also added 14 rebounds for her third double-double of the season and her fifth double-digit rebounding night.
Tiger Double-Doubles
Brianna Wright vs. Missouri State, 11 pts, 16 reb (11/14/14)
Courtney Powell vs. Samford, 11 pts, 11 reb (11/16/14)
Mooriah Rowser vs. SIU, 13 pts, 10 reb (11/26/14)

Brianna Wright vs. Cincinnati, 11 pts, 14 reb. (1/14/15)
MEMPHIS FINISHES FALL SEMESTER IN A
FLOURISH IN THE CLASSROOM
The Tigers had a strong finish to the fall semester.
Six players finished with a GPA of 3.0 or higher during
the semester (Cheyenne Creighton, Asianna FuquaBey, Ariel Hearn, Amber Holmes, Mooriah Rowser,
Brianna Wright) and freshman Amber Holmes posted
the highest team GPA of the fall at 3.87. The Tigers’
fall team GPA was 3.087.
FUQUA-BEY USING FREE THROW LINE TO
ELEVATE SCORING THREAT
Junior forward Asianna Fuqua-Bey has worked
hard to improve at the free-throw line and to answer
the Tiger coaching staff’s challenge to become more
of a scorer this year.
As a freshman, the Chicago native shot 54.3 percent at the stripe. This season, she is shooting 83.9
percent.

DOUBLE DOUBLE-DIGIT REBOUNDING
The Temple game marked the second time this
year that the Tigers have had two players post double-digit rebounds. In addition to Brianna Wright’s 14
rebounds against Temple, Asianna Fuqua-Bey added
12 rebounds, her second consecutive double-digit rebounding night of the season.
The last time Memphis had two players with double digit rebounds before the Temple game? Another
game where Memphis had a halftime lead, but lost
-- Minnesota.

Memphis has never finished under .500 in league
play since McFerrin took over prior to the 2008-09 season (including post-season tournaments) and the Tigers
took a step toward making that a seventh straight occurrence by closing regular season non-conference play
with a 6-5 mark.

WILDER-COCHRAN NAMED TO HONOR ROLL
Sophomore point guard Breigha Wilder-Cochran was
named to the American weekly honor roll after the win
at Georgetown. Wilder-Cochran scored 12 points on
5-for-9 shooting and tied a career-high with five steals
for the second time in three games.
She is the second Tiger this season to earn a spot on
the weekly honor roll, joining Mooriah Rowser.
DOUBLE DIGIT REBOUNDS FOR PAIR OF TIGERS
Asianna Fuqua-Bey and Brianna Wright each grabbed
13 rebounds in the loss to Minnesota. Fuqua-Bey had
10 offensive rebounds in the game on Sunday, becoming just the ninth player in school history to grab 10 offensive rebounds in a game. She is the first Tiger since
Jasmine Lee to grab double-digit offensive rebounds in
a game.

ROWSER NAMED TO AMERICAN HONOR
ROLL
Redshirt sophomore guard Mooriah Rowser was
named to the American Athletic Conference weekly
honor roll after leading Memphis in scoring last week
in a pair of wins. Rowser is averaging 19.5 ppg and is
shooting 38.7 percent from the field and 33.3 percent
from three-point range in the early going. She is also
the team’s leading free-throw attempts leader, going
12-for-15 (80.0 percent) in the early going.
HEARN HITS 1,000TH CAREER POINT AND
100TH CAREER TRIPLE
Junior guard Ariel Hearn opened her 2014-15 scoring
line with a pair of three point field goals in the first half
against Missouri State. The second triple pushed her
past the 1,000 career point mark, making her the 23rd
player in school history to score a grand or more.
She added a pair of threes in the second half, which
gave her the 100th triple of her three-year Tiger career.
She is just the ninth player in school history to connect
on 100 career threes.
Getting to her 1,000th career point in her 64th career
game means that Hearn was the fifth-fastest in Memphis history to get to the 1,000 career point mark. She
tied the mark set by Tamika Whitmore, who went on
to become the second Memphis women’s basketball
player drafted in to the WNBA, earning WNBA All-Star
honors while she played in Indiana.
