JANUARY 2015
Still Seeking Additional ACM-Member Composers of Organ Music
Many thanks to those of you who have already responded in the affirmative following the article in last
month’s newsletter about a possible unique project to raise funds for the Ruth Pilger Andrews Organ Scholarship! We think there are more composers of organ hiding out there in our ACM membership who could
help make this project a reality...so don’t be shy!
To recap, ACM’s Scholarship Committee is considering hosting a fundraising organ recital in early October
2015 at St. James Church (Good Shepherd Catholic Parish) in Madison that would feature organ pieces written by our own members. The pieces would be performed by either the composer or someone else, and all
of the pieces would be published in a book that would be available for sale, with proceeds benefitting the
Ruth Pilger Andrews Organ Scholarship Fund.
The guidelines for the submitted compositions are as follows:
 Scored for solo organ, or organ and solo instrument, or organ and solo voice/choir.
 Scores for which the organ is not the solo instrument must include an accompaniment written
specifically for organ, not a generic “keyboard” designation.
 Sacred or secular.
 3 – 6 minutes in length.
The musical content may be original material, based on a public domain hymn tune or other melody in the
public domain, or a transcription or arrangement of another piece of music that is in public domain.
The deadline to commit to this project has been set at January 31, 2015, and can be done by emailing ACM
vice-president, Deborah Krauss Smith, at [email protected]. If enough ACM members are intrigued
by this project and willing to commit to it, the actual scores, which can be handwritten, would need to be
submitted by March 31, 2015.

For many years, St. Andrew's has been used by area music groups for rehearsal and concerts because
they value its warm, clear acoustics and intimate space. So, as part of our desire to introduce new people
to our church and give a cultural offering to the community, we launched our own concert series.
Proud of our fine 21 rank Taylor and Boody organ, we also felt there was a need for it to be used and
experienced in a concert setting with guest artists.
