FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Media Contact: John A. Elsesser, Town Manager (860) 742-6324 Email: [email protected] CAMPAIGN ENCOURAGES TOWNSPEOPLE TO SHARE WHAT THEY “LOVE” ABOUT COVENTRY COVENTRY, CT: January 30, 2015 – Is it Coventry’s Lake Wangumbaug, considered by many to be the “jewel in the crown” of Coventry attractions? Perhaps it is the rural character of town with its open spaces and recreational areas. Or could it be the rich heritage of this 300-year old community, with landmarks like the Nathan Hale Homestead and the historic village district? Maybe it is something less tangible – like how people in the neighborhood still wave when they drive by. Whatever it is that makes Coventry special, Town officials are encouraging people to share their thoughts during the month of February, the traditional month for love, as part of the kick-off of the “Love Coventry” campaign. “Many towns have that unique “something” that people identify with on an emotional level, that thing that creates pride of place, like the Frog Bridge in Willimantic, CT, or the WaterFire event in Providence, RI.” said John Elsesser, Coventry Town Manager. Elsesser got the idea to develop the “Love Coventry” campaign at an ICMA conference during a presentation about the book “For the Love of Cities” by author Peter Kageyama. Kageyama’s book examines what makes cities lovable and what some cities are doing to identify those characteristics and weave them into future development. People who wish to participate can email their comments to [email protected]. The Town has also developed a “Love Coventry” logo and will be distributing it on window decals during the month of February to the first 100 people who submit their comments. Business owners in town are also encouraged to participate. For more information about the “Love Coventry” campaign, call (860) 742-6324. -end-
