Team Vitality
What the benefit offers
Team Vitality is a movement – join now and take part in running, cycling or both, and show
everyone your Team Vitality colours. When you get moving and register for events on the
Team Vitality calendar, you’ll get up to either 25% or 50% cash back on race entry fees for
some of South Africa’s best races. You’ll also get a premium Team Vitality starter pack
delivered to your chosen address. You’ll get a Team Vitality race shirt, plus discount
vouchers that will get you geared up for your sport.
As part of Team Vitality, you’ll get the most rewarding race club experience around where
you can cool down in style at our post-race hospitality area, which will be available at
selected races across the country. You will also be awarded Vitality points when you
complete races on the Team Vitality calendar.
Who may use the benefit
All members 18 years and older on an active Vitality membership can register with Team
Vitality. You can join the Team Vitality movement at any time during the year, and you can
activate it with other Vitality fitness benefits. Your Team Vitality membership is valid for one
calendar year and it will end automatically on 31 December each year. You will be required
to renew your membership every year. You will receive the starter pack when you first join,
not when you renew your membership of Team Vitality.
What you pay
Everyone who joins Team Vitality will pay an activation fee each year. The activation fee for
the year depends on your chosen sport:

R300 a year for running;

R600 a year for cycling; and

R900 a year for running and cycling.
The registrations fees include VAT and your licence fees in regions where Team Vitality can
apply for a licence on your behalf. The licence for your sport will be delivered to you with
the Team Vitality starter pack (where applicable).
When you activate Team Vitality and pay the registrations fee, there is a “no cancellation”
policy. This means that we will not be able to refund you once the registration fee has been
paid. If you choose to terminate the benefit or your Vitality policy, the ordinary rules for the
termination of a benefit and Vitality membership will apply.
Runners
The yearly activation fee includes the licence fee for members living in Central Gauteng and
KwaZulu Natal. If you’re from another region, you can join a club in your region and get
your own licenses for now. You can still join Team Vitality, get the starter pack and enjoy up
to either 25% or 50% cash back when you complete selected events on the Team Vitality
race calendar.
Cyclists
The yearly activation fee also includes your Cycling South Africa (CSA) membership fee and
provincial levy (please note that this is not a full racing license).
Registration fees for races are not included in the activation fee and must be paid directly
to event organisers. You can earn up to either 25% or 50% cash back on these pre-race
registration fees.
The Team Vitality starter pack
The contents of the Team Vitality starter pack can change at any time. The pack includes
different items for each sport:

How it works
Getting started
Log into www.discovery.co.za and click on ‘Vitality’ > Gym and Fitness >Team Vitality to join
the movement.
Choose your sport, the size of your shirt, confirm the delivery address and pay your
registration fee by credit or debit card (not Maestro cards) through the secure PayU
website. You will receive your Team Vitality starter pack and your race licence from Vitality,
and can start entering races from February 2015.
Vitality members 18 years and older who want to join Team Vitality must activate the
benefit separately and pay the registration fee.
Joining Team Vitality as a runner
If you live in Central Gauteng or Kwazulu Natal and are currently a member of a running
club, you have to resign from that club and send us your clearance letter. Fill in your
Athletics South Africa (ASA) application form and send it to us so we can apply for your
permanent ASA race licence on your behalf. You can email your forms to
[email protected]. We will deliver your licence with your Team Vitality starter kit
(when we receive it from the sporting body). Where applicable, we will not be able to deliver
your kit until we have received your completed ASA form and your clearance letter from
your previous club.
If you live in another region and you already belong to a running club, you must simply
renew your license. You can still benefit from the Team Vitality starter pack, getting up to
either 25% or 50% cash back on the race entry fee for selected events on the Team Vitality
race calendar, and up to 5 000 Vitality points for each event. Remember, you must also
apply to Athletics South Africa if you haven’t done so already.
Joining Team Vitality as a cyclist
We will apply for licenses through Cycling South Africa (CSA) on your behalf for all cyclists
who join Team Vitality. You’ll get your username and password from CSA. You can then
print your license, after which you are exclusively part of Team Vitality.
Redeeming your vouchers
Once you’ve activated Team Vitality, you will get a Welcome email with all the voucher
codes and instructions on how to use them.
1. Redeeming your Garmin voucher:
a. You can redeem your R800 Garmin voucher for a running or cycling device
directly through the Garmin website. Select your Garmin product, complete
your details and enter your voucher code
b. The Garmin voucher is valid until 31 December 2015.
2. Redeeming your Rudy Project voucher/s:
a. You can redeem your R500 Rudy Project voucher for a cycling helmet or a
pair of sunglasses directly through the ASG website.
b. You need to register on the link to use your voucher.
c. A voucher code can only be redeemed for each registered user.
d. You cannot combine voucher codes on one product.
3. Redeeming your digital magazine voucher:
a. You can redeem your voucher for your free magazines by:
 Going to www.mysubs.co.za and creating an account;
 Entering the voucher code you received in your welcome letter on the
website;
 Downloading MySub+ from the iTunes store or Google Play Store;
 Entering your log-in details to access your MySubs library; and
 Downloading your copies of Runner’s World and Bicycling.
b. You can also get up to 60% discount on a Runner’s World or Bicycling
magazine subscription through the discovery/mall.
c. The digital magazine voucher is a promotion code and cannot be used for
resale.
d. There is a limit of one code for each MySubs account. It has no cash value
and is only valid on MySubs.
e. You will need a MySubs account to redeem your voucher.

Entering races
Visit www.discovery.co.za for the Team Vitality events calendar. It will list all the races that
qualify for up to either 25% or 50% cash back.
Once you have selected the race you want to participate in, you will need to enter through
the event website (not the Team Vitality website) and pay the race entry fee directly to the
race organizers.
Earning Vitality points
If the event you have completed is one of the selected events that is timed by one of our
timing partners, and you have given us consent to collect your data, your points will be
automatically awarded. If not, you will need to claim your points within the same calendar
year of the event:


Log into www.discovery.co.za and click on ‘Vitality’, then ‘Gym and fitness’.
Select ‘Claim points for outdoor sporting events’.



Choose the event and fill in your race number, finishing time and other details.
Follow the instructions to claim your points for the race.
Points and cash back will be awarded automatically after you complete the online
form and we can verify that you have completed the event.
Maximum yearly and daily points
You earn Vitality points for events you complete in a calendar year. You can claim points for
the event later, and up to 12 months after the race date. Points you earn for completing
events on the Team Vitality calendar add up to the maximum of 15 000 Vitality points a year
you can earn for fitness. Terms and conditions apply.
You can only earn points for one event or workout activity each day. If you do more than
one event or activity on a day, you will get points for the event that will give you the most
points.
Earning cash back
How to earn up to 50% cash back with Team Vitality
To qualify for up to 50% cash back:




The event must be one of the selected, timed events on the Team Vitality race calendar
that qualifies for either a 25% cash back or a 50% cash back.
You must have completed the event.
You must be a Team Vitality member at the time the cash back is awarded.
You will get up to either 25% or 50% cash back on the pre-race registration fee only (the
cash back does not apply to the additional fee if you register late or to T-shirts,
promotional items, donations, temp licenses, etc.).
Maximum quarterly and yearly cash back amounts
You can earn up to 50% cash back on the pre-race registration fees up to a maximum
spend of R3 000 each quarter, and up to R12 000 in a calendar year. This means you can
earn up to R1 500 cash back (50% of R3 000) in a quarter, and up to R6 000 a year. This
applies to each Vitality member 18 years and older who joins Team Vitality.
Paying your cash back
We will pay your cash back into the same account you use for other Vitality cash back
benefits. These accounts include:

Your bank account;

Your DiscoveryCard; or

Your Health Wallet.
We will pay your cash back into your nominated account every month. Only the main
member on the Vitality membership can choose the account and has to make sure the
details are correct. To change the account details, the main member can go to
www.discovery.co.za or call us on 0860 99 88 77.
We pay your cash back into your chosen cash back account at the end of your billing cycle,
from March. You will get an SMS once we have paid your cash back.
If your monthly cash back is low, we may wait until the next month to pay
If your monthly cash back is below a pre-set amount, we may keep that cash back until the
next month. The pre-set amount is currently R50.
You may pay tax on cash back you earn
You are advised to get your own tax advice on any benefit you may receive in terms of
these rules. Discovery will not be responsible for any tax consequences.
Important points to remember




Check the Team Vitality race calendar to make sure you are registering for a race
that qualifies for points and up to either 25% or 50% cash back.
You can only earn up to either 25% or 50% cash back on selected events that you
complete once you have joined Team Vitality and we can validate your race results.
If an event is timed by one of our timing company partners, your points and cash
back will be awarded automatically. If an event is timed by other companies, you will
have to manually claim your points for an outdoor sporting event on the website.
You can only earn points and up to either 25% or 50% cash back once we have
validated your race details.
Delivery of your Team Vitality starter kit will take up to seven days.



Members are responsible for ordering the correct size shirt by using the sizing chart
we have provided on the website. If you are in a licensed region and you receive a
race shirt that is different to the size you ordered, we will exchange it for the correct
size. However, we will not be able to exchange your race shirt if you have ordered
the incorrect size.
You will not be able to purchase an additional running shirt at this stage.
Team Vitality cyclists from all regions and runners from licensed regions (Central
Gauteng and KZN) are required to wear the race shirts at all events
When this benefit ends
You will have access to this benefit until the end of the calendar year in which you joined.
You will have to activate the benefit at the beginning of each calendar year if you want to
remain part of the Team Vitality movement. The benefit will end if your Discovery Vitality
membership is no longer active.
