To all our visitors…
Bishop John R. Gaydos, the clergy and the faithful of the Diocese of Jefferson City welcome you and hope that your time in
our Mother Church may be an opportunity to share our faith
and joy in Our Lord Jesus Christ.
Our parish was formed in 1959 and was elevated to the title of
Cathedral in 1968 and dedicated in 1974. Please enjoy the beauty of this spacious building dedicated to the Glory of God and
the memory of Saint Joseph, the Husband of Mary. It was built
for the inspiration of all who enter. Free tour booklets are available.
All visitors who are not of the Roman Catholic faith are most
welcome to join us in prayer and worship, but not to receive Holy Communion. Reception of Holy Communion is a sign of full
unity and membership in the Catholic community. Together let
us all pray for the unity of all believers.
If you desire to become a member of the Roman Catholic
Church or to become a member of the Cathedral Parish, please
call the parish office at 573-635-7991.
All contributions to the Cathedral ministries and maintenance
are sincerely appreciated. Please remember this Cathedral parish
in your Will, gifts and estate plans to support our parish’s ongoing mission.

PILGRIMAGE OPPORTUNITY
SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
Msgr. Kurwicki would like for you to experience the ancient
Greece of St. Paul, the Apostle to the Gentiles. We will be on
pilgrimage in his footsteps from September 27 to October 7,
2015. The cost is at an incredibly low price of only $3,740. We
will visit, pray and explore Athens, Corinth, Thessaloniki, Philippi, Ephesus, Island of Crete, Island of Patmos as well as Santorini. Msgr. Kurwicki was last on tour in 2013. If you have any
questions, please ask him. Brochures can be found in the parish
office, plus the vestibule of the Cathedral.
WELCOME to all who gather in our Cathedral Church for The
Fourth Sunday of Ordinary Time, and Boy Scout Sunday!
WEEK OF PRAYER: We ask each member of our Cathedral
parish to pray for the members of one of the parishes or missions in our diocese this week. As a Cathedral Church, all our
parishes are linked to us and we wish to deepen the spiritual
bond with them. Therefore, we will pray this week for St.
Bernadette, Hermitage.
DYNAMIC CATHOLIC LENT PROGRAM
WEEK OF PRAYER FOR CONSECRATED LIFE: Pope
Francis has asked us to remember in prayer all members of
communities of Male and Female Religious. This week we
pray for the Living and Deceased members of, plus for an
increase in vocations for, the Dominican Sisters of Springfield, IL, OP.
I want to thank you again for bringing the Book Program to
your parish at Christmas. You have planted seeds that will grow
and spread far beyond what your eyes can see. People who hand
out books at Christmas often ask us, “What’s next? How do we
continue to inspire our parishioners?” This year, Dynamic Catholic is developing a new Lenten email program titled, "Best Lent
Ever." The program is designed to help people rediscover the
genius of Catholicism through simple but powerful daily email
messages. Best Lent Ever will be led by Matthew Kelly and will
offer daily spiritual coaching via email to all parishioners who
sign up by Ash Wednesday (February 18). The Best Lent
Ever program is free. Sign up online at BestLentEver.com.
Be Bold. Be Catholic.
Mark Moore, Dynamic Catholic, Director of Ministry
FROM DEATH TO NEW LIFE-The Cathedral Parish Family
extends its sympathy and prayers to the families of June
Barnthouse and Raymond Luebbering, brother-in-law of
Norbert and Larry Luebbering. May they have eternal rest in
their heavenly home and may the Lord give comfort and peace to
their loved ones who mourn their loss.
BLESSING OF THROATS
Tuesday, February 3, is the Feast of St. Blaise. The traditional
blessing of throats will be after both the 6:30 a.m. and 8:00
a.m. Masses. The 8:00 a.m. Mass will be an All School Mass.
This blessing can be received by Catholics and non-Catholics.
It is a prayer that people be delivered from all illnesses of the
throat.
PALMS
The ashes used on Ash Wednesday come from the Blessed
Palms of the year before. Please bring your Palms to Mass now
and put them in the marked baskets at the exits of the Cathedral.
Ash Wednesday is February 18. Thank you!
WORLD DAY OF THE SICK
The Diocesan Mass for World Day of the Sick will be held on
Sunday, February 15, at 2:00 p.m. This celebration will be
held at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 903 Bernadette Drive,
Columbia. The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick will be
administered to those of the faithful of any age whose health is
seriously impaired by sickness or old age and are properly disposed for the Sacrament. The public is invited and all are encouraged to attend and to pray for the sick on this special day.
This Mass will fulfill the Sunday obligation.

VOCATION NEWS
PRAY FOR VOCATIONS—The Cathedral Vocations’ Committee invites you each week to pray for a Priest, Religious,
Deacon and Seminarian serving in our Diocese. This week,
please keep in your prayers: Fr. John Henderson, Perry, Sister
Helen Stokes, SSND, Jefferson City, Deacon Thomas Miller, Columbia, Seminarian Josh Duncan, Kenrick-Glennon
Seminary. The Diocese has 12 Seminarians.
On the Presentation of the Lord on February 2, 1986, Fr. William L. Korte, our Associate Pastor at the time, with the support
of Fr. Patrick J. Shortt, Rector and Bishop Michael F. McAuliffe
inaugurated Eucharistic Adoration in our parish in the former
choir director room. Since that time hundreds of parishioners
have benefited from this wonderful Eucharistic experience.
Over the years though, some of the founders of this devotion
have died or are no longer able to fill their “Holy Hour” due to
old age. It is a blessing to know that seven days a week, twentyfour hours a day, people are praying for our parish, our parishioners and our city. If you are interested in joining this great
group of people, please contact the Parish Office at (573) 6357991. We have a few empty time slots, so please call.
Jesus is waiting for you!

The search for the Cathedral’s Director of Music began in early
December. The committee met with Msgr. Kurwicki and Fr.
Aubuchon and began by reviewing, then finalizing, the “Duties
of the Director of Music”, a document posted on the Cathedral’s
website and referred to in our advertising. Three venues were
used in our advertising: catholicjobs.com, musicasacra.com, and
National Pastoral Musicians.com. These were the same sources
used successfully in the selection of our last Director of Music.
The advertising is producing good interest, and to date, we now
have 13 applicants for the position. The search team will meet
Tuesday, February 3 to review all resumes, and any reference
materials submitted by the applicants, in order to determine
which would be the best possible fit for our Cathedral parish.
Initial contacts will be made by the chairman of the search committee to determine the level of interest in the position and interviews by the search team will follow. Please keep the search
for our Director of Music in your daily prayers.
