Boulder C H A MBER OR CH E ST R A 2014 -2015 S E A SO N Dear Patron: It is our pleasure to bring to you yet another season of great music! After ten years of reaching for the stars as a Chamber Orchestra, we have perhaps achieved such a high level of artistic excellence that we have developed a certain Mystique! ...Hence the name of our 11th season. Except for our Holiday concert and the New Year's Celebration, each concert is named after a synonym of the word Mystique in such a way to portray the musical content of that particular concert. Our Collaborations with local and visiting guest-artists this season are as exciting as ever. We are honored and delighted to make music with such distinguished and renowned artists such as the Saint Martin’s Chamber Choir and Inbal Segev. We are also thrilled to once again expose our community to young and exciting talent emerging in the musical scene. Victoria Aja, a specialist of Spanish Piano music, on her US tour will join us for an exciting soiree with the exotic French and Spanish sounds bound to exhilarate the listeners. Our younger talents, Andrew Sords (Violin) and BCO's own Cobus du Toit (Flute) will join us for astonishingly beautiful concerti by Anton Arensky and Karl Nielsen; pieces that you'd otherwise not hear if it wasn't for our dedication to expose our listeners to journeys on the fringes of the musical map. We are delighted to have Victoria Aja and Inbal Segev put the icing on the cake with their additional solo recitals included in your season passes. Ms. Aja will perform a night of all Spanish music Recital while Ms. Segev will give us a preview of her upcoming CD of Bach's Solo Cello suites! Two unforgettable events coming your way. The season ends with a repeat appearance of our hometown virtuoso performing the Chopin Piano Concerto No. 2 before concluding with Beethoven's perhaps most Mystical Symphony...No. 4. We are delighted to bring to you Mystique! BAHMAN SALESS MUSIC DIRECTOR AND CONDUCTOR Seicento Baroque Ensemble, the superb up-and-coming Boulder chamber choir will join us for the Holiday Concert with Vivaldi's Gloria and other Holiday selections. SEICENTO BAROQUE ENSEMBLE With a name inspired by the Italian word Seicento which means “six hundred” and refers to the culturally rich 1600s in Italy, the Seicento Baroque Ensemble was founded in 2011 to fill a void in the Colorado choral scene by performing worthy but rarely-heard music of the early baroque musical period. The group is an auditioned chamber choir which uses historically-informed performance practices and period instruments as it brings to life works by Monteverdi, Carissimi, Schütz, Purcell, Biber, Mielczewski, Scheidt, Charpentier, Vejvanovsky and other baroque composers. Seicento Baroque Ensemble’s concerts are performed with vocal soloists as well as baroque strings, violas da gamba, harpsichord, recorders, sackbuts, baroque flute and oboe, all who specialize in historic performance. Seicento’s concerts and pre-concert talks offer a more in-depth look at the highlighted composers and instruments and incorporate creative connections such as baroque artwork and history. Of special note have been their concerts of music from the Kremsier Archives (Czech Republic); a concert for voices and viols; and a concert of music by Henry Purcell woven to tell a historical fiction about the great comet of 1680, narrated by Charley Samson of Colorado Public Radio. Information about Seicento’s exciting concerts is found at http://www.seicentobaroque.org/. Krueger, is Colorado’s first fully professional chamber choir. The 24-member choir is not affiliated with any church or denomination; it takes its name from the site of its first performance, St. Martin’s Chapel at Saint John’s Episcopal Cathedral in Denver. With a repertoire spanning seven centuries, St. Martin’s explores the finest choral music ever written, from Renaissance motets to 19th century Romantic-era partsongs, and from gems of the Baroque to new works being given their premiere performances by the choir. St. Martin’s has recorded twelve acclaimed CDs, including its bestselling title “A Marian Christmas,” and its most widely distributed title “Henri Hardouin: Complete Four-Part A Cappella Masses Vol. 1.” The group’s recordings receive regular airplay on Colorado Public Radio in Colorado, and on classical music stations around the country. Reviews in American Record Guide, Fanfare Magazine, and ClassicsToday.com have expressed enthusiasm for Maestro Krueger and the Choir’s excellent recordings. For more information about St. Martin’s Chamber Choir’s concerts and recordings, visit www.stmartinschamberchoir.org, or call 303-298-1970.
