JLU International Students Advance to the 6th Chinese Bridge Final Contest On May 23th, the 6th “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students in Changchun was held in JLU. Mr. WANG Feng, Director of “Chinese Bridge” Competition of CCTV International Channel, HAN Xiaofeng, Deputy Chair of University Council and Vice President, Prof. LIU Debin, Director of the Division of International Relations and Dean of the School of International Studies and BAI Bing, Deputy Dean of the School of International Studies presented at the activity. There are tens of international students from Jilin University, Jilin Finance & Economic University, Changchun University, Changchun University of Technology and Changchun University of Chinese Medicine took part in the “Chinese Bridge” this year. After four hours’ fierce competition, three international students from JLU and Changchun University got promoted to final contest in Beijing. The "Chinese Bridge" Chinese Proficiency Competition is a large-scale international contest sponsored by Hanban, and is well-known in the cultural and educational exchanges worldwide. The program helps the foreign delegates get a new profound understanding of China's society and economy as well as Chinese language, culture and education. Their witnessing Chinese people's enthusiasm and China's opening-up and the modernization lays a very solid foundation for their cooperation in education and culture with China in the future, and plays a positive role in giving them confidence in cooperating with Chinese schools, promoting Chinese education in foreign schools and enhancing friendship between people of different countries. Prof. Douglas Ulmer from Georgia Institute of Technology Visits JLU On May 7th, Prof. Douglas Ulmer, Dean of the College of Mathematics of Georgia Institute of Technology visited JLU. Vice President CHEN Gang met Prof. Douglas Ulmer and discussed with him on issues of co-launching Joint College of Theoretical Science and Joint Training Program of Honorary Students. The two sides also exchanged their ideas on graduate education and professional training program in Zhuhai Campus. Representatives from Georgia Institute of Technology, Division of International Relations, Office of Teaching Affairs and College of Mathematics presented at the meeting. During the visit Prof. Douglas Ulmer delivered a lecture to faculties and honorary students from the department of Mathematics and Physics. On May 12th Prof. Douglas Ulmer paid a visit to JLU Zhuhai Campus, during which he met representatives from Zhuhai Municipal Government and College of Zhuhai to discuss the possibilities of establishing Joint Master Project and Advanced Professional Training Programs. Visits from the Vice President of Universidad de Santiago de Compostela from Spain On April 23rd, a delegation led by Prof. Victor Millet, Vice President of Universidad de Santiago de Compostela paid a visit to JLU. During the stay at JLU, Prof. Victor Millet visited the College of Foreign Language. Representatives from the Department of Spanish proposed a program of establishing a Center for Spanish Language and Culture Studies was positively responded by Prof. Victor Millet. Afterwards Vice President CHEN Gang received the delegation and extended his warm welcome to its arrival. The two sides exchanged their ideas on future cooperation and reached consensus on launching the faculty exchange programs as well as Joint Training Programs for students. Universidad de Santiago de Compostela was established in 1495. As a comprehensive university it has over 30,000 students and 2,200 faculty members. The university offers a series of degree programs including Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, Engineering, Arts and Humanities. Vice President of University of Auckland Visits JLU On April 10th, a delegation led by Prof. Jenny Dixion, Vice President of University of Auckland from New Zealand paid a visit to JLU. Vice President CHEN Gang received the delegation. The two sides discussed the renewal of the cooperation agreement between the two universities and reached consensus on issues of academic cooperation, faculty exchange and short-term students training programs in the fields of Food Science and Security. Prof. ZHANG Tiehua, Deputy Dean of the College of Military Science and Technology and Dr. ZHANG Guangcui, the Deputy Director of the Division of International Relations also participated in the meeting. The University of Aucklandis was established in 1883 as a constituent college of the University of New Zealand, which ranks 1st in the country and is made up of eight faculties over six campuses with more than 39,000 students. JLU Delegation Visits United Kingdom and France A JLU delegation led by CHEN Dewen, Chair of University Council paid a visit to United Kingdom and France, during which it attended the Inauguration Ceremony of JLU Alumnus Association in United Kingdom and visited the University of Nottingham, University of Edinburgh, French Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety and the Alfort Veterinary School. SHEN Yang, the Counselor of the Education Department of Chinese Embassy received the delegation the day it arrived at London. On June 16th, the Inauguration Ceremony of JLU Alumni Association in United Kingdom was held in Chinese Embassy in UK. SHEN Yang extended his congratulations to the establishment of JLU Alumni Association in United Kingdom and expressed his support to the Association and JLU students in UK, after which CHEN Dewen made a brief introduction to the development of JLU in recent years. As a remarkable platform, CHEN Dewen said, the JLU Alumni Association in United Kingdom would be milestone in the communication and exchange between JLU and its alumnus in UK, casting a positive influence in the development of Sino-British collaboration. On June 18th, CHEN Dewen paid a visit to the University of Nottingham. After heated discussions with YAO Shujie, Dean of the Institute of Contemporary China Studies and Cruise Drude, Vice President of the University of Nottingham, CHEN Dewen presented a gift of twenty academic works on Humanities and Social Sciences by JLU scholars to the University of Nottingham and expressed his wishes to further develop the relationship between the two universities. On June 19th, the delegation visited University of Edinburgh and was warmly received by Steven Cyril, the Vice President of University of Edinburgh. The two sides exchanged their ideas on exploring the possibilities of broadening the communications and initiating a students’ joint-training program between the two universities. During the visit at France, CHEN Dewen was invited to visit the French Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety and the Alfort Veterinary School. Prof. Francis from Alfort Veterinary School and Prof. Pascal Bonzo from the Laboratory of Animal Health introduce some information of their institutes, while some JLU scholars and PhD students who were currently studying at Alfort delivered their working reports to CHEN Dewen. Afterwards CHEN Dewen signed an Agreement of Cooperation on behalf of JLU with Dr. Mark Molto from the French Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety. During the visit at Europe, CHEN Dewen also had a wide and in-depth communication with JLU alumni in Europe, by which he extended his gratitude to their supports to JLU’s development and encourage them to devote themselves to the common cause of the future of the motherland and alma mater. Establishment of JLU Alumni Association in United Kingdom On June 16th, the Inauguration Ceremony of JLU Alumni Association in United Kingdom was held in Chinese Embassy in UK. SHEN Yang, the Counselor of the Education Department of Chinese Embassy, CHEN Dewen, Chair of University Council & JLU Alumni Association and representatives from the Department of International Relations, Office of Party Committee and the Department of Public Relations as well as JLU alumnus in UK presented at the ceremony. YANG Hongji, Director of the Preparatory Committee of JLU Alumni Association in United Kingdom from Bath Spa University introduced the organization of the Association and the general information of Association Council. Afterwards the announcement was made for the Articles of JLU Alumni Association in United Kingdom and the list of Council members. SHEN Yang extended his congratulations to the establishment of JLU Alumni Association in United Kingdom and expressed his support to the Association and JLU students in UK, after which CHEN Dewen made a brief introduction to the development of JLU in recent years. As a remarkable platform, CHEN Dewen said, the JLU Alumni Association in United Kingdom would be milestone in the communication and exchange between JLU and its alumnus in UK, casting a positive influence in the development of Sino-British collaboration.
