WAUNITA HOT
SPRINGS
HOSTING
MARRIAGE
RENEWAL
WEEKEND
It’s January. For
some, this is a common time
of reflection, goal setting
and asking questions about
“where we are growing and
where we are dying” in our
lives.
Sometimes, a hard one
to evaluate is our marriage.
Whether we have been married 1 year or 45 years, our
marriages should be “thriving, not just surviving.” And,
just like everything else we
are good at, a thriving marriage takes practice, commitment, and effort. Solid marriages translate into solid
families, which means confident children and stronger
communities.
To help strengthen
marriages in our community, Waunita Hot Springs is
offering a marriage retreat
themed “My Love Lasts”,
Friday, February 20 thru
Sunday, February 22. The
retreat will be facilitated by
Jon and Joanna Anderson.
The Andersons live in San
Antonio, Texas and are the
founders and directors of
Growing Love Network.
Together they have lead
workshops for hundreds of
couples across the country.
Jon is the author of Growing
Love: The 9 Essentials of
Lifelong Love, Love Reboot:
Healing
for
Hurting
Marriages and 365 Days of
Growing Love.
The cost of the retreat
is $399 per couple, which
includes two nights lodging,
all meals, soaks in the hot
springs and the fee for the
Andersons. Couples are welcome to extend their stay to
plan a ski day, snowmobiling
tour, a dogsled tour or just
for extra rest and relaxation
and enjoy the serenity the
Waunita Hot Springs Ranch
has to offer.
For information on
the retreat facilitators, visit
www.growinglovenetwork.o
rg. For information regarding the Waunita Hot Springs
Ranch,
visit
www.waunita.com. Space is
limited to 21 couples. For
reservations contact Tammy
Pringle at 641-1266.

MARBLE MANIA RESULTS
The 17th annual “Marble Mania” marbles tournament was played at the Gunnison Elementary/Middle
School on Tuesday evening, January 27th. Twelve
child/adult teams played the game of “Ringer” for fun,
sportsmanship, marbles, ribbons, and trophies. Following
are the results:
Boys Division
1st place Spencer & Sally Hays
2nd place Evan & Erik Bjornstad
3rd place Noah & Sharalee Pederson
4th place Julian & Jarral Ryter
5th place Burk & Bill O'Rourke
6th place Harlan Barnes & Justin Pepitone
7th place Sam & Tom Anderson
8th place Garrett & Isaac Denney
Girls Division
1st place Mackenzie & Alysia Pearcy
2nd place Maddie & Jason Tharp
3rd place Zoe & Stephen Futrell
4th place Lily & Kevin Noble
The first place winners in both divisions will have
their names engraved on a permanent trophy that is on display at the school. The coveted BEST SPORT trophies
awarded by the referees to one boy and one girl in recognition of how they conducted themselves during the games,
based on eleven specific behavioral criteria, were won by
Harlan Barnes and Lily Noble, in very close voting. Special
thanks to Gunnison Savings & Loan (for 17 consecutive years
of financial sponsorship), Hair Repair II (for sponsoring the
“Best Sport” trophy every year), Rocky Mountain Frames &
Trophies, (for making the trophies), Gunnison Community
Schools, (for use of their facilities to conduct the tournament), and the Gunnison Country Times, The Gunnison
Country Shopper and KPKE Radio for publicity. Also, the
tournament could not have been conducted without all the
volunteer referees, scorekeepers, child and adult players,
and everyone else who supports the marbles program. We
can’t thank you enough.

8:00 p.m. Early Bird through 2/15: $40; Regular: $45
Dialed-in vocal harmonies. Oliver’s gritty acoustic
guitar. Chris’s virtuosic upright bass. Warrior poet lyrics.
This is the fraternal synchronicity of Americana phenomenon, the Wood Brothers. Independently, Oliver played guitar and sang with Southern blues rocker Tinsley Ellis before
founding King Johnson, a hard-touring group of bluesinflected R&B, funk and country. Chris, meanwhile, formed
Medeski Martin & Wood, which over two decades became a
cornerstone of contemporary jazz and abstract music. They
are now joined by new full-time member Jano Rix, a drummer and ace-in-the-hole multi-instrumentalist. Their songs
dance between bluesy, classic country and swampy funk,
mining the brothers’ timeless influences of Robert Johnson,
Willie Nelson, and Charles Mingus.
Claire Lynch Band: Wednesday, February 25, 8:00 p.m.
Early Bird through 2/18: $20; Regular: $25
Long recognized and praised as a creative force in
acoustic music, bluegrass artist Claire Lynch is a pioneer of
beauty, subtlety, and genre-defying sophistication. She has
used her richly textured voice to sing harmony on tours and
albums with Dolly Parton, who describes her as “one of the
sweetest, purest and best lead voices in the music business
today.” She is a three-time International Bluegrass Music
Association (IBMA) “Female Vocalist of the Year” awardwinner (and 16-time nominee), received two Grammy nominations for “Best Bluegrass Album” and won “Song of the
Year” from IBMA in 2014. As a songwriter, her tunes have
been recorded by such luminaries as Patty Loveless and The
Seldom Scene and she has graced albums and the stage with
Emmylou Harris, Alison Brown and Ralph Stanley. Her
accolades have won her a spot in the Alabama Bluegrass
Music Hall of Fame. Opening act: Free the Honey.
