Tim, Sallie Walbourne, Maura Walbourne, Kaitlyn Fox, Robin Costanzo, Marian Mentavlos, Paul Fling, Laurie Videan, Pam Laquidara, and Nancy Hernandez. ST JAMES COLUMBARIUM: Did you know that your columbarium was constructed solely from the purchase of niches by the niche owners? No parish or diocesan money or collections of any kind were used for construction. The columbarium was dedicated in November, 2007. Your fellow parishioners (along with a few from St. Andrews and the Church of the Resurrection) have now purchased 77 niches, and 59 niches have become the final resting place for some of these brothers and sisters. For information regarding the details of a niche ownership, please contact the office at St. James. EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS NEEDED FOR SATURDAY MASS: We are in need of Eucharistic Ministers at the Saturday evening 6:00PM Mass! Both men and women can apply; the requirements are that you be 18 years of age and teens 16 years of age (with permission from the bishop); and are in good standing with the Church. This is an excellent way to get involved in your parish and help St. James by being a minister in stewardship. Please contact Rose Kepler at 234-1956. ST. The worthy recipients, council members, families and friends joined the council at their annual dinner on January 24, in the Founders Center. Project distributions of $5,388 were made to local organizations for the mentally challenged: ARC (Association for Retarded Citizens) of Horry County, Special Olympics, HC Disabilities and Special Needs, and Conway High School Special Need Students. The generosity of the Knights of Columbus is legendary. The same is certainly true for our council. The following is a listing of donations we made in just the past six months: $4,000 to the Catholic Church of St. James (from golf tournament), $800 to Seton Catholic High School (donated by our Hispanic Round Table), and $150 to Catholic Charities’ request of October, 2014 for emergency housing assistance. Another $2,000 from the golf tournament and council general funds was distributed to the following groups: the Therapeutic Learning Center of Horry County Schools, Forestbrook Elementary School Science Fair for a deserving participant, HC Shelter Home for Teens & Infants, HC Literacy Council, Waccamaw Youth Center, St. James Catholic Church Life Teen program, St. James Catholic Church Middle School Youth Group, Grand Strand Citizens for Life (bus charter), and Catholic Charities Thanksgiving Turkey Purchase. Special donations given were: $690 to Food for the Poor (from memorial donations for PGK Dan Smith), and a $500 donation from Karen Catania in memory of her deceased husband, Sir Knight Paul. The latter amount was distributed to the following groups: Churches Assisting People, Felician Sisters’ Center in Kingstree, and Pee Dee Catholic Charities. The grand total of $13,528 came from the Golf Tournament, other donations, and Council funds! We thank you all for supporting our projects. DAY OF RECOLLECTION sponsored by the Ladies Guild for ALL women will be held Saturday, February 21, in the parish hall. $5.00 includes light breakfast and hot lunch. Speaker is Deacon Jeff Mevissen. Bring your friends – Catholic and nonCatholic to join us. Telephone to reserve to Carole 397-1847 or Carol 236-5925 by February 16. It takes a village to get it all done. COLLECTION OF OLD PALMS: Ash Wednesday is February 18 this year. Bring your old palms to church and put them in the containers in the gathering space anytime between January 26 and February 8. The palms will be burned and the ashes used on Ash Wednesday. FLU SEASON: In this season of widespread and severe influenza, as pastor, instead of making a pastoral decision to discontinue offering the Precious Blood, I will leave it up to individuals to decide whether or not they want to receive the Precious Blood and share the sign of peace by shaking the hands of others or offering an embrace of peace. Please know that receiving the Precious Body of Christ is also to receive the fullness of the Lord - Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity - and that refraining from receiving the chalice or extending a handshake anytime during the year when one is experiencing the symptoms of an illness or fears catching an illness, should not be seen as disrespecting others in any way; it may be that the person wishes to not communicate his or her germs to others or become sick. I encourage those who have flu-like symptoms, coughing, sore throats, or sinus infections to refrain from receiving the Precious Blood or shaking the hands of others so that you do not communicate infections to others, especially the most vulnerable-elderly and children. Sincerely, Father Tim THE PRAYER LIST: Please pray for the physical and spiritual well-being of parishioners and friends who are ill: Fred Searle, Philip Eccles, Caitlin Grace Carey, Roger Laird, Dorothy “Dottie” Winters, Katie Marie Kislow, Giovino D’Aurora, Bill Squatriglia, Janet Snow, Skip Embessi, Margaret Campbell, Karla Johnson, Kris Sterton, Rose Nowicki, Darlene Hill, George Williams, Sr., James Dolan, Cookie (Arline) Elston, Mark Muttilainen, Beth Fultineer, Bernadette Larson, Charles and Ida Mellor, Brendan Horstman, Mary Berdan, Amy Ayers, Mary Bland, Eric Hagan, Jim Beardsley, Richard Duffany, Chip Beverly, Richard Budlemer, JoAnn Monteleone, Marie Bousquet, Ruby Todd, Caroline Dall, Lois Ringkamp, Paul DiAngelantonio, Marti Petti, Nancy Schwindinger, and Jerry Stevens.
