Switching Sides
Jennifer Fulwiler is a popular writer and speaker from Austin,
Texas, and frequently appears on Catholic radio and EWTN. In
this eye-opening presentation, she explains how her original
support for abortion was based on love (and lies). Through
sound logic and scientific proof, Jennifer chronicles how she
came to accept the truth about abortion.

Year of Consecrated Life
Consecrated life: many possibilities
The Church is blessed with remarkable variety among the
consecrated men in the U.S. In fact, there is so much diversity
in the different kinds of communities, ministries, and
characteristics of male religious that learning more about
consecrated life for men can be overwhelming. We invite you
to explore consecrated life in three ways: by learning more
about consecrated men, discovering the different charisms in
the Church, and by looking at some of the religious
communities in the U.S. Go to
www.yearforconsecratedlife.com for more information. You'll
also find a short glossary that defines some of the key terms
used to describe consecrated life.
The theme of this year's
Week of Prayer for
Christian Unity is
"Jesus said to her, 'Give
me a drink.'" (John 4:7).
John 4:7
The encounter between
Jesus and the Samaritan
woman invites us to try
water from a different
well and also to offer a
little of our own. In
diversity, we enrich each
other. When Jesus says to
her, “please give me a
Week of Prayer for
drink” it implies an
Christian Unity
ethical action that
January 18-25
recognizes the need for
one another in living out
the Church’s mission. It
compels us to change our attitude, to commit ourselves to seek
unity in the midst of our diversity, through our openness to a
variety of forms of prayer and Christian spirituality. The Week
of Prayer for Christian Unity is a privileged moment for prayer,
encounter and dialogue. It is an opportunity to recognize the
richness and value that are present in the other, the different,
and to ask God for the gift of unity.
The traditional period in the northern hemisphere for the Week
of Prayer for Christian Unity is January 18-25. Those dates
were proposed in 1908 by Paul Wattson, Founder of the Society
of the Atonement, to cover the original days of the feasts of the
Chair of St. Peter (January 18) and the Conversion of St. Paul
(January 25) , and therefore have a symbolic significance.
November 30, 2014—February 7, 2016
Prayer for Christian Unity
Heavenly Father, we come to you, the
Font of Life, to ask that you fill your
Church with Living Water to quench our
thirst on the quest for Christian Unity.
Let our hearts be filled with the gift of
your Son’s love for us. May we find in
your Church the living and abiding
presence of your love and work together
to bring about the desire of your Son,
Our Lord Jesus Christ when he prayed,
“that all may be one.” May the Spirit
never lay dormant within us, but sustain
us on the path of life. This we ask through
Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and
reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy
Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen

Communications from the Bishop
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
The family around the world today faces tremendous challenges.
In Latin America, where Christian values remain important,
many families are wounded by hostility from the surrounding
environment and by broken relationships within the family. Yet
throughout the hemisphere, the Church continues to point the
way to Christ as the source of hope and healing within the family
and in society. Many family and catechetical ministry projects
funded by the Collection for the Church in Latin America offer
families and communities a way to strengthen, affirm, and
celebrate their life together in faith, offering a different and
hopeful vision of relationships with one another and with God.
increased focus on family ministry, supporting ninety-eight
communities with existing programs. Monthly, one-day meetings
are held with the communities, which include workshops,
interactive exercises, and best practices for family ministry. The
project also promotes the Rosary and prepared people for both
the National Day of Families held in May and the Annual
Diocesan Gathering of Families held in June of 2014. In addition
to the monthly meetings, a separate retreat was held for the
facilitators of the groups that work with young couples.
Our Diocese will take up this collection the weekend of
January 24-25, 2015. Please be generous in this collection and
take this opportunity to share your faith with families in Latin
America and the Caribbean. Your support will truly make a
difference. Thank you and God bless you.
In Cuba, migration and economic pressures are only a few of the
many internal and external circumstances that pose threats to
Catholic families, as they strive to practice and share their faith.

THE 2015 CATHOLIC MINISTRIES ANNUAL APPEAL IS UNDERWAY
“EXTENDING GOD’S MERCY”
The 2015 Catholic Ministries Annual Appeal begins with a mailing that many of our parishioners have received or will soon
receive. This is a mailing from Bishop Conlon asking for a pledge to the 2015 Catholic Ministries Annual Appeal.
The Appeal not only funds many of the operations of the diocese, it funds services that are of great help to the ministries here in
our parish. This year, the theme of the Appeal is “Extending God’s Mercy.” The greatest act of God's Mercy toward humankind
was to send His Son. People lost the way to God, the truth about God and a life in God by our own fault. Jesus came to give us the
Way, the Truth and a new Life. Jesus taught us to be MERCIFUL as His Father is MERCIFUL. (Luke: 6:36)
How do we acknowledge God’s mercy and show Him our gratitude? One way that we can show our gratitude is by giving back to
God the gifts He shared with us. We can support our parish, our diocese and the Church throughout the world with gifts of time,
talent and treasure. The gifts we give enable ministries, education, and services that touch thousands of lives.
With your financial support, we can exceed our goal. When we exceed our goal in paid pledges, we will receive 65% of the
amount over goal for use in our parish. Please answer Bishop Conlon’s request and make a generous pledge. All pledges can be
paid in 10 installments. Thank you in advance for your support.

Serra Club Mass & Dinner
Pro-Life Event
Serra Club invites you to join them at St. Petronille
The SERRA CLUB OF DUPAGE invites you to join them on
Monday, January 19 at St Petronille Parish, 420 Glenwood,
Glen Ellyn. The evening will begin at 6 pm with Rosary and
Mass in the Church which will be celebrated by
Father Herb Essig, Serra’s new chaplain. Dinner will follow in
the Parish Center.
Peter Infanger will be the Guest Speaker at the dinner. In
2013, when Peter’s wife of 34 years died suddenly from breast
cancer, Peter recalls that he did a lot of soul searching,
“reflecting on why am I here, where am I going, and what does
God want me to do. A spiritual friend from church asked if I
had considered becoming a priest.” Peter is now attending
Mundelein Seminary studying Pre-Theology I.
To find out more about SERRA or to make a reservation for
the dinner, please contact John Matyasik:
[email protected] or 630-947-5672.
Please join us for an Evening of Prayer for the Protection of
the Unborn on Thursday, January 22, at Immaculate
Conception Church (134 Arthur St., Elmhurst) to commemorate
the 42nd Anniversary of the Roe v Wade Supreme Court
Abortion Case in solidarity with the March for Life 2015. The
sacrifice of the Holy Mass beginning at 7:00 pm will be
celebrated by Rev. Jan Krutewicz, Parochial Vicar of Visitation
Parish. Priests and deacons are welcome, but please bring a
white stole and RSVP. The schedule is as follows:
6:30 pm—Pro-Life Rosary
7 pm —Holy Mass
8:00 – 9:15 pm—The 40 Film in the
Agnesian Room of the Parish Center
The 40 Film, a 62 minute documentary, is the definitive film
about the aftermath of legalized abortion over the last 40 years.
It is the premiere film for educating youth about abortion. The
film, directed and produced by John Morales, addresses some of
the strongest arguments for the pro-choice position, and
provides heartfelt testimonies from post-abortive women and
men. The film captures the impact of abortion on women, men,
families and society in an exquisite encounter with human
dignity. It also showcases the annual March for Life and the
youth as the generation that will end abortion. To watch the
