Together, as one family of God, we continue
to build the Kingdom of God here in South Florida.
Because of you and your stewardship through the
Archbishop’s Charities and Development Drive
(ABCD), in the past year alone, you are helping to train
the largest group of seminarians the Archdiocese
has enjoyed in many years; through ABCD you are
assisting our most needy Catholic elementary and
high schools, and you are continuing to support the
evangelization efforts within our migrant community
in south Dade. Thanks to your support of ABCD
our Respect Life ministry continues to grow, and
we continue to minister to the seafarers and at the
airports. These are extraordinary accomplishments
– all made possible because of you!
If you have not already responded to the letter sent
to you by Archbishop Thomas Wenski received by
mail, please take time to consider your pledge for this
year. Your faithful and generous participation in the
ABCD flows from God’s many blessings to you and
to those you hold dear. We ask for your continued
support and invite you to join us to be One in Faith,
One in Hope and One in Charity. Thank you.

buscando. Encontrándole a él lo hemos encontrado todo.

Midnight Musings / Pensamientos de Media Noche
Talk About Mood Swings!
Such a wonderful, peace-filled
season as we heard: “O tidings of
comfort and joy!”
Angles sang.
Shepherds and magi worshiped. Mary
and Joseph cared for their child. God
the Father spoke proudly at the Jordan
baptism scene: “You are my beloved
Son; with you I am well pleased” (Mark
1:11).
Then the honeymoon is over; harsh reality sets
in, as John the Baptist announces: “Behold, the Lamb of
God” (John 1:36). Nothing good happens to a lamb in the
scriptures. “Like a lamb led to slaughter or a sheep silent
before shearers, he did not open his mouth” (Isaiah 53 7),
commented Isaiah about God’s Suffering Servant. God
instructed Moses and Aaron about the Passover lamb: “Tell
the whole community of Israel: On the tenth of this month
every family must procure for itself a lamb, one apiece
for each household... You will keep it until the fourteenth
day of this month, and then, with the whole community of
Israel assembled, it will be slaughtered during the evening
twilight. They will take some of its blood and apply it to the
two doorposts and the lintel of the houses in which they
eat it” (Exodus 12:3). They also slaughtered lambs for sin
offerings and peace offerings.
When John called Jesus the lamb of God, he
basically said: He’s a dead man! He is turning into a
slaughtered sacrifice. We just celebrated his birth. Now
the scriptures remind us that he was born so that he could
die. The incarnation of the Word made flesh brought about
an unusual exchange between God and humanity. As he
became human, we gave God what he did not have– the
ability to die. And he gave us what we did not have– the
ability to live forever.
The Lamb of God would not act alone. In the
gospel today he starts calling his disciples. Like the youth
Samuel in the Old Testament reading, they said yes to the
call of the Lord. So do all of us today, when we choose to
respond to Jesus, like the responsorial psalm repeats: Here
am I, Lord; I come to do your will. Following the Lamb we
will all share in his sacrificial way of life; generosity in living
is required of all those who take Jesus seriously. Following
him will including sharing his cross. But following the Lamb
in a spirit of sacrifice will bring us to share with the Lamb
his victory. “[Enemies…] will fight with the Lamb, but the
Lamb will conquer them, for he is Lord of lords and king of
kings, and those with him are called, chosen, and faithful”
(Revelation 17:14).
Yours in Christ,
Hablando de Cambios de Humor
Que maravillosa temporada llena de paz: “¡Oh
palabras de confort y alegría”! Cantan los Angeles. Los
pastores y magos alaban.
pequeña para terminarlo, que se junte con el vecino de casa;
(Apocalipsis 17: 14).
Suyos en Cristo,
