The Baptism of the Lord
Today's Readings: Is 55:1-11; Is 12:2-6; 1 Jn 5:1-9; Mk 1:7-11
God does not withhold blessings and favor from anyone.
Jesus Christ is the Lord of all. How are these blessings
manifested for the Christian? At our own baptisms, we were
anointed with the chrism of salvation and called to live as
Christ did: as priest, prophet, and king.
We know from Jesus' life that these are not worldly calls to
power, riches, and prestige but rather vocations of service in
which we do not cry out or shout aloud or attract attention
to ourselves in any dramatic way. Rather, as the reading from
Isaiah reminds us, we faithfully proclaim the word that will
achieve the end for which God sent it. For, as John tells us
today, "the victory that conquers the world is our faith" (1
John 5:4).
GETTING FIT
The shoelaces are crusted with mud from an afternoon on
the playground. Laces on both shoes flap in the wind as she
runs to her father. "Daddy, can you tie my shoes?" she calls
out. And he smiles, noticing the knots. "Sure."
What parent is really "fit" to tie the shoes of his or her child-and to aid in the other tasks and lessons that are so much
a part of the Christian call of motherhood and fatherhood?
How many moms and dads feel like calling out the way that

baptism? Speaking of Jesus, John said, "I am not worthy to
stoop and loosen the thongs of his sandals" (Mark 1:7).
SPECIAL GRACES
Through the grace of the sacrament of marriage parents are
fit to teach their children not only how to function in the
day-to-day world (how to tie their own shoes!) but in the
mysteries of faith for which they are the first heralds for
their children. Parents have the mission of teaching their
children about the faith and helping them to discover their
vocation as children of God.
God the Father had special plans for the Son. At his baptism,
Jesus was anointed by his Father to bring salvation to all.
Likewise parents, grandparents, and all of us in the
community of faith have special plans and dreams for our
children. We likely hope that they will go to college, prepare
for a career, and work at a job they like. We may hope that
they will marry and raise children. Most of all we desire that
our children continue to practice the Catholic faith and
deepen their relationship with God. Logically, then, as the
family of faith, we must encourage some of our children to
consider the vocation to ordained priesthood and vowed
religious life. With God's grace, we are perfectly fit to do
that.

The 2014 Together in Mission Campaign is coming to an end. We thank the 963
parish families that that made a commitment towards this annual campaign, providing
financial support to 37 parishes and 56 schools in our archdiocese. Thank you to all of
the anonymous donors as well! We ask all those families who have not yet fulfilled their
pledge to please do so as soon as possible. If we do not meet the goal the parish will have
to pay the balance. If we exceed the goal, the archdiocese will give us a rebate.

Parish Registration Campaign: Why Register?
Often people may attend Mass at a certain parish for several years,
but never register. In our society, sometimes a person may feel
more comfortable at a particular parish whether or not it is the
geographical area where the person lives. When a pastor accepts
the registration, he also accepts the responsibility of their spiritual
care. For instance, if a person were sick or dying, that parish priest
has the responsibility for that person. Parish registration creates
a two-fold obligation: On one hand, the pastor is obligated to
support the mission and needs of the parish and its parishioners;
on the other hand, the individual takes on the obligation to support
the mission and needs of the parish and his/her fellow parishioners.
We strongly encourage you to register, even if you do not wish to
receive weekly contribution envelopes. Registering in a parish is
a declaration of your desire to be part of a Catholic community
and to make a commitment to the Catholic life of St. Genevieve
Parish community. Being a registered parishioner makes the
process much easier when you wish to participate in a parish
ministry, or when it is time for infant baptism, school or religious
education registration, weddings, when asked to be a baptismal or

LIBRO 'ANOINTED MOMENTS'
Nuestro Director de Escuelas Parroquiales, el Sr. Dan Horn,
escribio un libro titulado 'Anointed Moments' que trata sobre su
experiencia al transformar dos escuelas Catolicas, muy en especial
nuestra escuela preparatoria. El libro esta a la venta despues de
Misas dominicales y en el Centro Parroquial. Donacion por cada
libro es $15.00; un porcentaje de las ventas de este libro seran
donadas a nuestro Programa de Educacion Religiosa.

SANTUARIO DE LA VIRGEN DE GUADALUPE
Pedimos disculpas a todas las familias que compraron azulejos de
mayo - noviembre de este año ya que aun no han sido instaladas
en el santuario. Nuestra meta era tenerlas antes del 30 de
noviembre pero debido a que los artistas han tenido muchos otros
compromisos no han podido hacer e instalar los azulejos. Los
azulejos restantes se haran e instalaran en las proximas semanas.
Quedan pocos azulejos disponibles, favor de recojer una forma del
Centro Parroquial.
LA PALABRA DE DIOS HOY
La fiesta del Bautismo del Señor es como una bisagra entre el tiempo de Navidad y el comienzo del tiempo ordinario. Así como los
israelitas atravesaron las aguas del Mar Rojo y se convirtieron en el pueblo escogido de Dios, así también el Señor Jesús atraviesa las aguas
del río Jordán. Al salir del agua Jesús escucha la voz de su Padre, que lo llama "mi Hijo muy amado". Los israelitas comenzaron su estadía
temporal en el desierto después de su liberación a través del mar. El Señor Jesús, poco después de haber sido bautizado por Juan, comienza
su retiro de cuarenta días en el desierto donde es tentado por Satanás. Los israelitas constantemente le dieron la espalda a Dios. El Señor
Jesús fue resoluto en su determinación de cumplir el plan establecido por su Padre celestial. ¿Qué nos enseña esta fiesta? Que en nuestro
propio caminar por la vida debemos ir pareciéndonos más y más a Cristo. A medida que el año litúrgico continúa desplegándose seamos
resolutos en nuestro compromiso de llegar a ser mejores discípulos, más semejantes a Cristo con cada día que pasa.

Los mayores consumidores de pornografía por Internet son los menores de 12 a 17 años. Más de la mitad de los varones y una tercera
parte de las niñas han visto pornografía antes de llegar a los años de la adolescencia. Treinta y cinco por ciento de los varones adolescentes
(de 13 a 14 años) dicen que han visto pornografía “más veces de las que se pueden contar.” Al llegar a los 18 años, más de nueve de cada 10
niños y seis de cada 10 niñas han visto pornografía en línea.2 La mejor defensa para impedir que la pornografía alcance a nuestros niños es

Campaña Parroquial: ¿Por qué Registrarse?
A menudo las personas pueden asistir a misa en una determinada
parroquia por varios años, pero nunca registrarse. En nuestra
sociedad, suele suceder que una persona puede sentirse más cómoda
en una parroquia en particular si esta o no esta en el área geográfica
donde vive la persona. Cuando un parroco acepta el registro,
también acepta la responsabilidad de su cuidado espiritual. Por
ejemplo, si una persona esta enferma o se esta muriendo, el párroco
tiene la responsabilidad de esa persona. El registro parroquial crea
una obligación doble: Por un lado, el parroco tiene la obligación de
apoyar la misión y las necesidades de la parroquia y sus feligreses;
por el contrario, el individuo adquiere la obligación de apoyar la
misión y las necesidades de la parroquia y sus feligreses.
Le recomendamos que se registre, aunque usted no desee
recibir sobres de contribución semanales. El registro en una
parroquia es una declaración de su deseo de ser parte de una
comunidad Católica y hacer un compromiso con la vida Católica
de la comunidad parroquial. Al ser un feligrés registrado hace el
proceso mucho más fácil cuando usted quiera participar en un
ministerio parroquial, o cuando sea tiempo de bautizar a un niño/a,
registrarse en educación religiosa, bodas, padrinos para bautismo o
confirmación, e incluso funerales. Un feligrés registrado recibe toda
la correspondencia de la parroquia. Una vez registrado, por favor
notifique a la oficina parroquial de cualquier cambio de domicilio o
número de teléfono.
¡Estamos bendecidos con muchas personas maravillosas que viven
nuestro estilo de vida Católico de un modo admirable! Estamos
muy orgullosos de nuestros ministros litúrgicos, nuestras escuelas y
familias de educación religiosa, las personas que cuidan de nuestra
parroquia que trabajan con los afligidos, los enfermos, los niños y los
adolescentes, todos los que participan en la Misa y los sacramentos y
devociones ... ¡y te invitamos a ser uno con nosotros!

La Oracion y la Vida Cristiana
El Instituto de "Escuela de la Fe" los invita al nuevo curso "La Oracion y la Vida Cristiana". El curso se impartira cada martes a partir de 20
de enero y finalizando el 28 de abril de 7:00 p.m. a 9:00 p.m. en el Salon 4A. Mas informacion en el boletin de la proxima semana.
