Give and it will be given unto –VII
Tithing has been my practice since 1963, and even at times when it seemed impossible to give sacrificially, somehow I always was
able to do it. You recall that as an Episcopal Minister I was married [again another story] but I recall sitting with my wife going
over the budget at the beginning of our married life. She said to me, “it will be tight, but we will just make it.” I looked at her
budget and realized that she had not included the tithe; the result was our first marital fight. “We can’t afford to give that much
money” she said, and I agreed, but having done so for so many years I was committed. By then I knew the Malachi text and
challenged her that if we were faithful in giving 10% to the Church that there would be enough to go around. She was skeptical, but
agreed. A handful of years later she stood up on a Sunday and told that story and witnessed “I didn’t believe it would work, but it
did.” We both still tithe to this day!! Again I am not trying to get you to give more money to IHM, but the principle is worth
noting: to the generous person God pours out blessings. This is actually easy to prove, and this is one area where testing God is
appropriate. “You cannot out give God!” It is the nature of His being to pour out his generous grace and love upon his children,
and when we act like God by being generous amazing things can happen. IHM pray for us. Fr. Jerry

Donar ha sido mi costumbre desde el año 1963 y también a veces cuando me parecia imposible sacrificarme a donar, de alguna
manera yo lo podia hacer. Ustedes recordarán que como un Ministro Episcopal yo estaba casado (de nuevo otra historia) pero me
acuerdo que estando sentado con mi esposa revisando nuestro presupuesto al principio de nuestra vida matrimonial. Ella me dijo
“será un poco apretado, pero lo podremos hacer.” Yo revise el presupuesto y me di cuenta que ella no habia incluido el diezmo; el
resultado fué nuestra primera pelea matrimonial. “Nosotros no podremos dar tanto dinero,” ella dijo, y yo le di la razón, pero
habiendo hecho eso por muchos años yo estaba comprometido. Para entonces sabia que el texto de Malaquias y yo le rete que si
nosotros religiosamente dabamos el 10% a la Iglesia que habria suficiente para todos. Ella era escéptica pero estuvo de acuerdo.
Unos cuantos años después, se levanto un Domingo en la Iglesia y conto esa historia que ella testifico. “Yo no crei que eso
trabajaria, pero resulto.” Nosotros dos todavia donamos el diezmo hasta este dia!! De Nuevo yo no estoy tratando de que ustedes
den más dinero a ICM pero el principio es bueno anotarlo: A la gente generosa Dios le manda muchas bendiciones. Esto es fácil de
probar y esta es un área donde probando a Dios es apropiado. “Tú no puedes dar más que Dios! Es la natura de su Ser de desbordar
su gracia generosa y el amor a sus hijos y cuando nosotros actuamos como Dios siendo generosos cosas maravillosas pueden pasar.

TUTORING MINISTRY
During the month of January 2015, registered
Parishioners who have 1st, 2nd or 3rd grade
students may register their children for Tutoring in
the Areas of reading and math. Please contact
Mary Lou Klovee at 516-7484 between January 2
& January 17 to register your Child for Tutoring
and/or for further information. Registration closes
on January 18, 2015. Classes for the next Session
of Tutoring begin February 4, 2015
NAMI COURSE AT IHM
The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is
offering a 12-week FREE course that provides
education, skill training, emotional support, self-care
and empowerment for anyone who has a loved one with
a diagnosed mental illness. This class is not open to
those that suffer from mental health issues but for those
that interact with them. This course covers the
symptoms and treatments of major mental illnesses, as
well as skills to help family members communicate
with an advocate for their loved one(s) more effectively.
IHM parishioners Tony and Jan Khalil will be your
instructors.
This course will be held at IHM, Brentwood, classroom
John, starting on FEBRUARY 2ND through APRIL 27,

BIRTHRIGHT BABY BOTTLE FUNDRAISER
Birthright of Brentwood is a Pro-Life crises pregnancy
counseling and support center located in downtown
Brentwood, We are an all-volunteer organization that helps
approximately 500 women and families annually. We
provide free confidential pregnancy testing, counseling,
family mediation, assistance with medical, legal, and housing
needs, and baby clothing and other supplies for women and
families in need.
On the weekend of January 24 and 25, we will be handling
our baby bottles after each mass at IHM. We ask that you
take one (or more), fill them with coins, and return it to IHM
at a mass in February. You may also drop off full bottles at
the church office.
For several years, this fundraiser has made our continued
operation possible. We would like to thank the parishioners
of IHM for your past contributions and hope that you will
once again support our Pro-Life mission in the East County.

Again this Holiday Season, the IHM Knights of Columbus

Christmas gifts for children, plus 66 children's coats, for
distribution to the less fortunate through the Missionary Sisters of
IHM. As a charitable organization, the Knights of Columbus are
pleased to have helped those who need it most.

St. Peter Martyr School Open House and
Enrollment. St. Peter Martyr School is accepting
fall 2015 applications for Preschool,
PreKindergarten, Kindergarten, and grades 1-8.
The school offers extended care, extra curricular
programs, and a strong academic program.
Applications for the 2015–2016 school year are
available at St. Peter Martyr School and

school, located at 425 West Fourth St. in Pittsburg,
is fully accredited and invites families to an Open
