Free Tax Preparation
Volunteers Needed
In conjunction with Catholic Charities and the United Way, we will be
offering free tax preparation at Our
Lady of Guadalupe starting in Feb.
We are currently looking for volunteers to help our hardworking families prepare their taxes and get the tax
refunds they deserve - often exceeding several thousand dollars.
Volunteers are need for the
following:
Tax preparers - receive free IRS
training and certification. Training
dates are Jan 3, 10 and 17 from 9 to 4
at Empire College in Santa Rosa (Can
also be done on line)
Greeters - welcome taxpayers to
the site
Interpreters - interpret between the
taxpayer and the tax preparer, when
needed
Community Resource Coaches connect individuals and families to
community resources that can make
all the difference
No experience is necessary - training
will be provided. Bilingual speakers
encouraged to volunteer.

We have finished the shortest day
of the year with the coming of
winter (Dec. 21st) and the light of
the New Year begins. We celebrate Jesus’ birth and presence
among us in the transformation of
the world. NOW is the light of the
Nations and the reign of God.

through worship, evangelization and service.
Scripture Insights
When Luke narrates how Mary
and Joseph present the baby Jesus in the Temple,
he does so in a
way that shows
that the Holy Family is not simply carrying out Jewish tradition;
they are involved in fulfilling the
very Scriptures of Israel. Exodus
refers to offering up every
‘firstborn’, man and beast, to
acknowledge ritually that all life
comes from the Lord God. Since
Israel did not perform human
sacrifice, they were instructed to
redeem the firstborn son.
Given that Luke, a dozen verses
earlier, had told how the angel of
the Lord announced to the shepherds that a “savior” had been
born to them, “who is Messiah
and Lord”, he is surely aware of
the wonderful irony involved
when he writes of their fulfilling
“the law of the Lord” in their presenting Jesus to the Lord. The
Lord Jesus is being offered to the
Lord God the Father.
Those realities fulfill not only the
Law but also the Prophets,
acknowledged by Simeon who
refers to “a child who will be a
light for revelation to the Gentiles”.
That’s his life story in miniature,
a mystery of divinity only gradually
revealed in Jesus’ life,
Death, and Resurrection.

Las Escrituras ideas
cuando
Lucas narra cómo María y José
presente al niño Jesús en el Templo, y lo hace de una manera que
