YES, LORD!
Of all the kings, prophets,
and holy men and women of
ancient Israel who had waited
in faithful hope for the coming
of the promised Savior, God
chose to announce his
coming to a young woman.
The message was not
proclaimed in a palace or
even the temple in Jerusalem, but in a backwater village
called Nazareth. Artists typically show a startled or shy
Mary, usually seated and partly turning away from the
heavenly messenger in confusion. In a small brightly
colored painting created over a thousand years ago, the
artist shows something entirely different. The angel is
holding up one hand in greeting. Mary is standing up
and facing him directly with both her hands extended
toward him, as if to welcome him. In this encounter
between the human and the divine, we see again God’s
capacity to confound human expectations. The words of
the angelos (Greek for messenger) are rich in power
and promise: “you have found favor with God . . . [your
child] will be called Son of the Most High . . . he will rule
over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom
there will be no end . . . The Holy Spirit will come upon
you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow
you” (Luke 1:30, 32, 33, 35). Mary was no shrinking
violet. Because she was pure of heart and trusted
completely, she responded to God with a wholehearted
“yes.” At this point, God broke into our world. Through
the cooperation of a simple village girl, God breathed the
air we breathe, walked the earth we walk, and
experienced our sorrows and joys as a human like the
rest of us. Everything on earth became sanctified
because God became human. God became flesh in the
Son, Jesus Christ, born of Mary. The world would never
be the same again. The time is here to let him into our
hearts and change us completely.

¡SÍ, SEÑOR!
De entre todos los reyes,
profetas, santos y santas del
antiguo Israel que habían esperado
fielmente la venida del Salvador
prometido, Dios escogió anunciarle
su venida a una jovencita. El
mensaje no fue proclamado en un
palacio, ni siquiera en el templo de Jerusalén, sino en
un pueblecito insignificante de nombre Nazaret. Los
artistas típicamente muestran a una María tímida y
sobrecogida, muchas veces sentada y como
confundida, con la mirada un tanto alejada del
mensajero celestial. En una pintura de hace más de mil
años y bien colorida el artista muestra algo
completamente diferente. El ángel tiene una mano en
alto con una actitud de saludo. María está de pie y lo
mira directamente con ambas manos extendidas hacia
el ángel, como en una actitud de acogida. En este
encuentro entre lo humano y lo divino vemos de nuevo
la capacidad de Dios para frustrar las expectativas
humanas. Las palabras del angelos (mensajero, en
griego) son ricas en poder y promesa: “Has hallado
gracia ante Dios . . . [tu hijo] será llamado Hijo del
Altísimo . . . reinará sobre la casa de Jacob por los
siglos y su reinado no tendrá fin . . . El Espíritu Santo
descenderá sobre ti y el poder del Altísimo te
cubrirá” (Lucas 1:30, 32, 33, 35). María no era tímida.
Como era pura de corazón confió completamente y le
dio a Dios un “sí” sin reservas. En ese momento Dios
irrumpió en nuestro mundo. Con la cooperación de una
jovencita sencilla, de una joven aldeana, Dios respiró el
aire que nosotros respiramos, caminó sobre la tierra que
nosotros caminamos y experimentó los sufrimientos y
las alegrías humanas como cualquiera de nosotros.
Todo en la tierra quedó santificado porque Dios se hizo
humano. Dios se hizo carne en el Hijo Jesucristo que
nació de María. El mundo no volverá a ser el mismo otra
vez. Ha llegado el momento de permitirle la entrada a
nuestro corazón al Señor Jesús y dejar que nos cambie
por completo.

week at every Mass. Please arrive 20 minutes early and let

Respect
"You also must be prepared, because the Son of Man will come
at an hour when you do not expect him." (Matthew 24:44).
Reflection: The word "Advent" means "coming," and the season focuses on the coming of Christ at the end of time, and
then on his first coming at Christmas.
The joy of Advent is joined by a strong warning that we must be prepared for his coming. Promoting justice and human
rights is a key element of our preparation. A society that aborts its children is not prepared for the coming of Christ.
Prayer: Come, Lord Jesus. May we be prepared to welcome you by welcoming all human life. Amen.
This weekend, during the holy time of Advent, we begin our parish Spiritual Adoption program. As individual, families
and a parish family we will pray for nine months for life of unborn babies that they are given the full Right to Life. We
focus not only on the coming of Christ but also the coming of these children. Let us pray that their parents are filled with
a "joyful anticipation and excitement" for the birth of their babies.
Please take a Spiritual Adoption Certificate fill it out and drop it in the blue Respect Life basket which is at the table
outside church today and will be in the back of the narthex for a couple of weeks. And as SFXC parish family we will all
pray for these babies for 9 months.

"Por eso, ustedes también estén preparados, por que
el Hijo del hombre vendrá cuando menos lo esperen
" (Mateo 24:44)
Reflexión : La palabra "Adviento" significa "venida" y la
temporada se enfoca en la venida de Cristo al final de los
tiempos, y luego en su primera venida en Navidad.
La alegría del Adviento, esta acompañada de una fuerte
alerta, que debemos estar preparados para su venida.
Promoviendo la justicia y los derechos humanos es un
elemento clave para nuestra preparación. Una sociedad
que aborta a sus niños, no está preparada para la venida
de Cristo.
Oración : Ven, Señor Jesús. Que estemos preparados
para darte la bienvenida dándole la bienvenida a toda vida

"emoción y gozo anticipado" por el nacimiento de sus
bebés.
Por favor, tome un Certificado de Adopción Espiritual,
llenelo y depositelo en la canasta azul de Respeto a la
Vida, que se encuentra en la mesa afuera de la iglesia
hoy, y nosotros estaremos en la parte de atrás del
vestíbulo de la iglesia por unas cuantas semanas. Y como
una parroquia familiar estaremos orando por estos bebés
durante 9 meses.

greeting to each of us – he loves us just as we are. What
