families and singles take it into their homes and
keep it in a place of honor to help them pray for
religious vocations. Having the chalice come home with you is
very special. If you attend the 6:00PM Mass on a regular

Catholic Vocabulary
Understanding, one of the Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit
Understanding grows through prayer and the reading of
Scripture. It gives you insight into the truths of the faith and
being a follower of Jesus, and it helps you make right
choices in your relationships with God and others.

Thanksgiving Turkey and
Trimmings Drive
The average American household spends $302
on food for Thanksgiving weekend. The total
estimated expense in the US for Thanksgiving dinner is
$2,375,000,000. Catholic Charities will be collecting donations
for their Thanksgiving Turkey and Trimmings Drive on
November 22, for those in need in the Pee Dee deanery at
Catholic Charities (Address: 2294 Technology Blvd, Conway,
SC 29579). Our parish will be sponsoring a table of fresh
vegetables for the families. Our table will need to be
supplied with bags of yams, bags of carrots, and bags of
potatoes. Please drop off donations for this event in the
gathering space on November 17. The average value of a
complete meal for a family at this event is $40. If you would like
to make a monetary donation, all checks can be mailed directly
to Catholic Charities, address listed above. Please designate
that your donation is for the Thanksgiving Drive in your check's
memo section. If you know of a family in need please
encourage them to attend the event at Catholic Charities

served first come, first serve until all food is distributed.
THANK YOU TO OUR SPONSOR ADVERTISERS! WILL YOU
JOIN THEM? Are you a business owner or self-employed and
enjoy knowing you’re helping to support the Church? Please

business. It’s a great way to reach the folks who want to support
your business too (Your Church Family)!
Realtors, Physicians, Dentists, Attorneys, Insurance Agents,
Accountants, Restaurants, Stylists, Auto Dealers, and Florists
are examples of advertisers enjoying success in Church
bulletins. The revenue from sponsor ads allows St. James to
receive the bulletin printed and shipped completely free of
charge.

November 17 to answer any questions about rates and space
availability. She can also be reached via cell or email at (302)

THE SOUTH CAROLINA COUNCIL OF CATHOLIC WOMEN
REVEREND WILLIAM F. PENTIS $1,500 MEMORIAL
SCHOLARSHIP: The SCCCW Reverend William F. Pentis
Memorial Scholarship was established in 2009 to honor Father
Pentis, an Oratorian Father, who served as Moderator for the
SCCCW, providing spiritual support for more than 30 years. His
work with Council was a labor of love. The SCCCW mission is
to respond with Gospel values to the needs of the Church and
society in the modern world. It strives to support, empower, and
educate all Catholic women in spirituality, leadership, and
service. The scholarship was, therefore, created to encourage
and promote such themes among South Carolina Catholic
females graduating from area high schools and planning to
attend an institution of higher education (e.g., university, college,
junior college, or technical school) within South Carolina. The
merit-based scholarship grants one $1,500 award to its
recipient. An application must be submitted no later than April
15, 2015. Please visit www.scccw.org for complete information
and to download the application form.
