Estimados padres:
El primer trimestre va por buen camino y muchos alumnos están disfrutando de una oferta variada de actividades
extraescolares. Los niños han tenido un buen comienzo del curso académico y el equipo docente se está esforzando
para que siempre estén motivados al máximo, con competiciones entre “casas”, eventos organizados a favor de ONGs,
además de la creación de estudiantes para los alumnos de primaria y secundaria, información que os facilitamos en
este boletín de noticias.
ACTIVIDADES EXTRACURRICULARES
Como ya sabréis a través de comunicaciones previas, ha comenzado un nuevo servicio de autobús de extraescolares
en la ruta de Oviedo los lunes y los miércoles, además del ya existente a Gijón (solamente los miércoles). Si recogéis a
vuestro hijo en el colegio después de las extraescolares, por favor, esperadles en la puerta de acceso al patio cubierto
de Infantil. Si llueve, podéis esperar dentro del patio cubierto (solamente si no se están realizando actividades en ese
momento). Es el mismo punto de recogida que a las 16:20 horas por lo que es mejor que siempre lo consideremos
como el lugar habilitado para buscar a vuestros hijos tanto al finalizar las clases como después de extraescolares. Por
favor, aseguraros de que llegáis a tiempo a dicho punto de recogida, ya que no está permitido que los niños crucen
solos hasta el aparcamiento.
Aunque algunas actividades propuestas se han cancelado debido a la falta de demanda, estoy interesada en escuchar
vuestras sugerencias sobre actividades que podamos programar en un futuro y así atender a las distintas necesidades
fuera del currículo académico.
Algunos padres de Avilés/ Salinas han mostrado su interés por establecer un servicio de autobús para esa zona
después de las actividades extraescolares. Es una propuesta a considerar. Por favor, avisadme directamente por
correo electrónico, si estáis interesados en esta posibilidad para que podamos valorar su viabilidad.
TRANSPORTE ESCOLAR Y LLEGADAS/ SALIDAS
Por favor, aseguraros de que todos los días vuestros hijos estén ya en el colegio a las 9:10 horas. Contamos con un
miembro del equipo docente que se ocupa de supervisar a los niños de cada etapa a partir las 9:00 horas (cuando
llegan los autobuses). Para los niños que llegan antes (de 8:30 a 9:00 horas), ofrecemos un servicio de “entrada
anticipada” supervisado uno de los asistentes del colegio en la biblioteca del colegio, que se ocupa de los niños hasta
las 9:00 horas. Sin embargo, el mayor número de alumnos en el colegio ha supuesto un incremento en el número de
niños que utilizan este servicio. Por este motivo, nos vemos obligados a formalizar un horario en el que los niños estén
supervisados y controlados. A partir de noviembre, se cobrarán 25 € mensuales a los alumnos que hagan uso de este
servicio un mínimo de dos días a la semana en horario de mañana. Del mismo modo, la supervisión hasta las 17:00
horas supondrá un coste extra de 25€ mensuales para quienes recurran a este servicio un mínimo de dos día a la
semana. Estos cargos se domiciliarán junto con el recibo del colegio.
Los alumnos de Year 7 y cursos superiores pueden utilizar el móvil en el autobús durante el trayecto de ida y de
vuelta. A primera hora de la mañana Mr. Daniel o Mr. Deuchar confiscarán el móvil a cualquier alumno de Secundaria
que sea visto con el móvil en el colegio y se lo devolverán al finalizar el día.
Los alumnos saben perfectamente que pueden utilizar sus móviles si son respetuosos con el resto de los compañeros y
no distraen a los conductores y monitores con sus teléfonos. No está permitido hacer fotografías ni grabar vídeos con
los móviles.
He observado que los niños más pequeños (de Primaria) también traen iPods/Nintendos al colegio para usarlos en el
trayecto del autobús. No deben hacerlo ya que los dispositivos electrónicos no están permitidos en el departamento
de primaria.

UNIFORME ESCOLAR Y UNIFORME PARA ED. FÍSICA
Ahora que empieza a hacer frío, los niños deben comenzar a vestir chubasqueros y, pronto, prendas que abriguen
más. La normativa sobre el uniforme escolar es la misma de siempre: los abrigos y chubasqueros deben ser oscuros
(negros o azul marino; el calzado también oscuro (negro o azul marino); las sudaderas con capucha no son parte del
uniforme escolar (en especial si tienen letras o lemas, incluso si son de color negro o azul marino). Me gustaría ser
clara al respecto: si todos los alumnos tienen el mismo aspecto, nos evitamos discusiones en casa y en el colegio sobre
la imagen personal y es un motivo menos de preocupación para todos.
En relación con lo anterior, me gustaría aclarar ciertas cuestiones respecto al uniforme de Ed. Física en Secundaria
(desde Y7 hasta Y11), en especial después de los cambios impulsados por el equipo directivo para facilitar la
impartición y el aprendizaje de esta asignatura. Todos los alumnos deben vestir una camiseta blanca: no supone
ningún problema si no tiene el logo del colegio pero la camiseta siempre debe ser blanca y lisa (sin logos, números en
la espalda, lo que significa que la camiseta del equipo de fútbol del colegio no sirve). Obviamente, el mismo criterio es
aplicable a la camiseta de recambio.
En relación a los pantalones cortos de deporte, deben vestirse los propios del uniforme del colegio (con el logo
bordado en una de las perneras). Asumo que existe demanda ya que nuestro stock de esta prenda está bajo mínimos
por el momento. Por eso os pido vuestra colaboración. Muchas alumnas de Secundaria visten mini-shorts, que no
tienen nada que ver con el uniforme del colegio y que no están permitidos. Por tanto, si no están disponibles los
pantalones cortos del colegio, pueden utilizar otros de color oscuro (nunca negros) y de la misma hechura y largo que
los obligatorios. Espero que estas indicaciones sirvan de aclaración.
El chándal del uniforme está a la venta en la administración del colegio. Los profesores se han mostrado comprensivos
con los alumnos que no traen el chándal el día que tienen clase de Ed. Física pero tenemos la obligación de que todos
los alumnos respeten el uso correcto del uniforme escolar. Una vez más, si hacemos excepciones con el uniforme
escolar, no podemos esperar que se cumplan el resto de las normas.
APARCAMIENTO
Por favor, recordad que cuando llegáis al aparcamiento para dejar a vuestros hijos, accedéis a una zona donde
transitan muchos niños. Todos deberíamos conducir con precaución y respetar a los demás. Tenemos previsto
establecer un sistema de dirección única en el que los coches entran por el lado derecho y rodean el aparcamiento en
el sentido contrario a las agujas del reloj, con lo que todos los vehículos seguirían la misma dirección. Luego, al salir del
aparcamiento, se debe seguir por el lado derecho para que el tráfico sea más fluido y se reduzca la velocidad.
CELEBRACIONES DURANTE ESTE TRIMESTRE
Esta mañana se ha celebrado la primera competición entre casas de Primaria (la competición anula de Limbo). Todos
los niños disfrutaron mucho e incluso algunos profesores pusieron a prueba su flexibilidad. Éstos son los ganadores: 1ª
Irene Martínez (Y6a- Vikingos), 2º Paula Llaneza (Y5a- Vikingos), 3º Juan Casaus (Y4a- Egipcios) y 4º Nora Barrera (Y4bGriegos).
También se organizará una colecta de comida para la cocina económica de Oviedo del lunes 20 de octubre hasta el
viernes 24 (ambos inclusive). Se trata de una colaboración anual pero lo que animamos a todos los niños desde
Nursery hasta Y13 a que contribuyan con alimentos no perecederos.
Los niños también celebrarán el “Amagüestu” el viernes 24 de octubre. Ese mismo día los alumnos de Primaria
celebrarán su Discoteca de Hallowe’en de 19:00 a 20:30 en el polideportivo y todo lo recaudado se destinará a las
organizaciones benéficas representadas por cada una de las casas.

Hoy los alumnos de Secundaria han votado en cada curso a quienes los representarán en el fórum de estudiantes.
Tanto los alumnos de Primaria como de Secundaria se reunirán con regularidad para tratar cómo se puede mejorar el
colegio. Así aprenden a hablar en público, asumen responsabilidades, adquieren destrezas y forma parte de nuestros
objetivos el prepararles el trabajo en equipo y la negociación.

Dear Parents,
The autumn term is now well underway and many children are enjoying the new range of after school activities. Your
children have made a great start to the new academic year and we are trying hard as a teaching team to keep
motivation levels high, with House Competitions, charity events, the introduction of a School Forum for Junior and
Secondary children, all of which will be outlined in this newsletter.
AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES
As you will be aware from previous communications, there are additional bus services for children going to Oviedo on
Mondays and Wednesdays, as well as a bus to Gijón on Wednesdays. If you are collecting your child from school at the
end of the activities, please wait for them at 5.30pm at the gate of the Infant covered playground. If it is raining you
can wait in the playground itself if there are no activities taking place there. This is the collection point at the end of
the standard school day, so it is better if we keep that area as the designated pick up point for any collection.
Please make sure that you are there on time, and at the playground gate as opposed to the car park, as we will not let
your children leave the school premises to cross into the car park.
Although some of the activities proposed were cancelled due to insufficient demand, I would still be interested to hear
your ideas for future after school clubs, so that we can aim to cater for a wide range of interests outside of the
curriculum.
Some parents from the Avilés/Salinas area have expressed an interest in an after school bus service for their children.
Again, this is for discussion. Please let me know, directly by email, if you would be interested in this option, so that an
evaluation of its purposefulness can be made.
SCHOOL BUSES AND ARRIVALS/DEPARTURES
Please ensure that your child is at school for 9.10am each day. There is a member of the teaching team ready to
receive children from each department from 9.00am, at the same time as the bus arrivals. In cases where children are
brought to school before that time (8.30am-9.00am) we are offering an early arrival service, which is managed by one
of the school’s teaching assistants. This service, with the growth of the school and the increasingly growing number of
children who arrive early has prompted us to formalize a timetable so that early arrivers are supervised and
monitored. Those early arrivers go to the School Library, where they are supervised by a member of staff until 9.00am.
This service, as of November, will be charged at 25€ per month for children who use the early arrival system for at
least two days a week. Should anyone need regular after school supervision until 17.00 (again, for at least two days a
week) the after school service will be charged accordingly at an additional 25€ per month per child. This service will be
charged through your monthly billing system of school fees.
Children from Y7 upwards are allowed to use mobile technology on school transport at the beginning and end of the
school day. If a Secondary student is seen with a mobile phone, they will be confiscated by Mr Daniel or Mr Deuchar at
the beginning of the school day and are returned to them at the end of the day.
When on the bus, the children understand that they must use their mobiles with consideration for others and not
distract the bus monitors with their phones. Photographs must not be taken and videos must not be recorded.
It has come to my attention that younger children (in the Junior department) are also bringing in iPods/Nintendos to
school to use on the bus. This is not allowed, as electronic devices are not permitted in the Junior department.

SCHOOL UNIFORM AND SCHOOL PE KIT
Now that the weather is getting a little colder, children should be wearing raincoats and soon enough warmer coats.
The expectations of uniform are the same as ever: raincoats and overcoats should be dark – black or navy blue;
footwear should be dark – black or navy blue; hoodies are not part of school uniform, especially those which are
emblazoned with writing and slogans, even if they are navy blue or black; denim jackets are not allowed. I would like
to explain this on a very simple level: if everyone looks the same, there are no continued battles at home or at school
about image and it gives everyone something less to worry about. This brings me on to school PE kit. My observations
are general, but given the changes that the school management team has taken to facilitate PE teaching and learning
in Secondary, there are some specific issues which are directly related to the school PE kit from Y7 to Y11. All children
are expected to come to school in their PE kit on the days when PE is taught for their classes. All children should wear
a white t-shirt: if this is not the t-shirt with the school logo, there is no problem, but the t-shirt must be white – no
other logos and no numbers on the back, which means that the ESA football shirt is not permitted for school PE
sessions. Secondary children have also been advised to change their white t-shirt after PE. Obviously, the same
conditions apply to the second t-shirt as to the first.
With respect to the blue sports shorts, they should be school uniform ones, with the school logo sewn on the leg. I
understand that there is a demand for shorts as our school supply of shorts and tracksuits is a little depleted at the
moment. With this in mind, I ask you for your cooperation. Many Secondary girls are wearing micro shorts, which do
not conform to uniform size or shape standards of the school ones. These micro shorts are not acceptable for school.
Therefore, if the school PE shorts are not available in the size required for your child, they may use alternative shorts,
but they must be dark blue (not black) and have the same shape and length as the school uniform model. I hope that
these guidelines are clear.
School tracksuits are available from the office. Staff have been understanding with students who do not have
tracksuits on PE days, but there is a high expectation that the uniform should be respected by all students. Again, if we
allow expectations on uniform to slip in some cases, we cannot expect anyone to follow those rules.
SCHOOL CAR PARK
Please, when you arrive in the car park to drop off your children, remember that you are entering an area where
children are present. All vehicles must be driven with care and consideration for others. We are aiming towards
establishing a one-way system in which cars will enter on the right hand side and circuit the car park in anti-clockwise
direction, so that all drop-off vehicles will be facing the same direction. Then, on leaving the car park, please keep on
the right hand side, so that cars can enter and leave fluidly – and slowly.
SCHOOL EVENTS THIS TERM
The first Junior House Competition took place this morning in the Small Hall – the annual Limbo Competition. All
children had a fabulous time, and even some brave teachers tried their flexibility against the Limbo bar. Winners were:
Irene Martínez (Y6a- Vikings), 2º Paula Llaneza (Y5a- Vikings), 3º Juan Casaus (Y4a- Egyptians) y 4º Nora Barrera (Y4bGreeks).
There will be a food collection from Monday 20th October to Friday 24th October for the Cocina Económica in Oviedo.
This is an annual event, and all children from Nursery to Year 13 are encouraged to bring in non-perishable foods for a
very worthy cause.
Children will also enjoy Amagüestu activities and events in school on Friday 24th October.
Junior children will also enjoy the Hallowe’en Disco on Friday 24th October from 19.00 to 20.30 in the Sports Hall. All
funds raised from the disco go to the school’s nominated House Charities.

Secondary children have voted today for their School Forum Representatives for each class. Junior and Secondary
children will have regular meetings to discuss ways in which they would like to improve our school. This helps with
public speaking skills, social responsibility, skills of delegation and is part of our school’s aim to prepare the children
with key life skills of team work and negotiation.
SECONDARY REPORTS
The Secondary (Y7-Y13) reports will be sent home to parents by email on Friday 31st October. In order to check that
the emailing system of reports is functioning correctly, we will send a test report to all parents on Wednesday 15 th
October at 14.30. Please inform administration ([email protected]) if you do not receive the test report on that
day.
