As we begin the month of October, I would like to remind you about many of the family events
we have planned for the school year. Some of these include Science Night, Day of the Dead/
Halloween and Family Literacy Night, as well as others!
Please join us for on Friday, October 10th from 4:30-6:30 for our 4th annual Science Night! LAS
is again lucky to be collaborating with the CSU, Sacramento Society for Hispanic Professional
Engineers (SHPE) and promote oppportunities an interest in the areas of science, engineering
and math for our students. During the event, your children will be able to participate in entertaining science labarotaries and parents can participate in workshops focused on preparation to
ensure you and your children are on the right path to the university.
During this event, the Parent Council will be selling food and drinks. I hope to see you all!
Members of the same Parent Council are preparing a fun Day of the Dead/Halloween night for
the whole family on October 31st from 5pm to 7pm. Lastly, mark your calendars for November
13th from 5pm to 7pm. LAS teachers and staff will be preparing educational workshops focused on supporting your child´s academic growth at our Family Literacy Night.
Your presence during these events will ensure that our goal to increase parent involvemnt be
one that we acheive! As always, you are invited to our monthly Parent Association meeting
which will take place on Wednesday, October 8th at 8:30am. Thank you for your consistent
effort, collaboration and dedication to the LAS community!
Al comenzar el mes de octubre, quisiera recordarles que tenemos muchas actividades familiares planeadas para el año escolar, !incluyendo Noche de Ciencias, Día de Muertos/Halloween y
Noche de Lectura, entre muchos más!
Favor de acompañarnos el viernes, 10 de octubre para otra gran Noche de Ciencias de 4:30pm
a 6:30pm. De nuevo, nos sentimos muy afortunados como escuela porque es la única con la
cual los estudiantes de la Universidad Estatal de Sacramento colaboran para promover las
ciencias, matemáticas e ingeniería. Durante el evento, sus hijos podrán participar en laboratorios científicos y entretenidos. Además, habrá talleres para padres con un enfoque en la preparación que se requiere para que sus hijos vayan a la universidad. También, miembros del Concilio de Padres estarán vendiendo comida y bebidas. Miembros del mismo Concilio de Padres
están trabajando para prepararles una noche de diversión el 31 de octubre, de 5pm a 7pm, en
donde podrán celebrar en familia el Dìa de Muertos y Halloween. Por último, el 13 de noviembre
de 5pm a 7pm, los maestros y personal de LAS prepararán una experiencia educativa para las
familias en otra Noche de Lectura.
Su presencia en estos eventos hace que el sueño de involucrar a padres en la educación de
sus hijos se haga una realidad. No olviden que siempre están cordialmente invitados a la junta
mensual de Asociación de Padres. La próxima junta se llevara a cabo el miércoles, 8 de octubre a las 8:30am. De nuevo, gracias por su constante colaboración, esfuerzo y entrega a nuestra escuela.

American Flag and Pledge of Allegiance Mini-Class
For any LAS student and/or parent that is interested, Adriana Mlakar, a LAS parent, will start offering a mini-class on the American flag and Pledge of Allegiance
every Tuesday at 7:50am in front of the flag pole at school beginning Oct. 14.
This mini-class will also be held on special dates through the year:
Monday November 10, 2014 - before Veteran's Day
Friday, May 22, 2015 - before Memorial Day
Mini-Clase sobre la Bandera Estadounidense y Juramento a la Bandera
Parra cualquier estudiante y/o padre que este interesado, Adriana Mlakar, una madre de LAS, ofreciera una
mini-clase sobre la bandera estadounidense y el juramento a la bandera cada martes a las 7:50am en frente de
el asta de la bandera en la escuela a partir del 14 de octubre.
Esta mini-clase también se llevara a cabo en algunas fechas especiales durante el año:
lunes, 10 de noviembre del 2014 – antes del Día del Veterano
viernes, 22 de mayo del 2015 – antes del Día de los Caídos.

Have you submitted your Volunteer Hours Log Sheet this month? Log Sheets are due by the 10th of
each month. Log sheets are sent every month with the newsletter. They are also available in the LAS
office and on the LAS website www.lasac.info.

It is the 'Year of the Book' in our school library. Ms. Davis, the librarian, has been working with students on
goals and some have been setting individual reading goals. Tip to Families: Discuss goals with your children.
Give examples of goals you have set and achieved.
