Advent comes from the Latin word: ADVENTUS, which means “waiting for the coming” of Jesus Christ. At Christmas time we are celebrating the first coming of Jesus into the world through His Incarnation. The second coming of Christ is what we are eagerly waiting for. Jesus had spoken to His disciples how to be prepared for this event aswe see in today’s Gospel. “Watch, therefore, you do not know when the Lord of the House is coming.” (Mk 13:35) “Take heed, watch and pray; for you do not know when the time will come.” - Mark 13:33 We all take things for granted. In particular, we take time for granted. Our lives are so busy, many of us are planning our time - our days, weeks, months, even years in advance. Remember, our time on earth is a gift. None of us knows how long we will be here. Start today and begin thanking God for each and every day. Take time in silence, everyday, and listen to what God is saying to you. St. Bernard spoke of a third coming of Christ, a secret one, which is already taking place here and now. Even though this coming is hidden from us through mystery, it is nonetheless very real and powerful. Every time we come together for the Sunday Worship, through the Word of God, through the Holy Communion Jesus is coming into our lives. Through the parishioners we greet at the entrance of our Church, those who regularly come and those who may be coming after a long interval, we are actually welcoming Jesus into our Church! Christmas, hope for humanity. That the birth of the Redeemer may bring peace and hope to all people of good will. Parents. Hospitality is an essential element of a Stewardship community. Our SJN Parish has always been a hospitable community. I am so grateful to all our Welcome Ministers who have been so generous in sharing their time and effort to greet the people at the door and to make everyone feel at home in our Church. Hospitality is a virtue to be shared, not only by our Welcome ministers but by every parishioner. It takes a collective effort by everyone to let our parishioners and guests know that we are grateful and enthusiastic about them, about their presence at our Church. Beginning this Advent Season, with a renewed spirit, let us join our Welcome ministers under its new leadership, in welcoming Jesus into our Church through our parishioners and guests. Wish you all a Hope-filled Advent Season! Father Sunny Pastor That parents may be true evangelizers, passing on to their children the precious gift of faith. There are a few sponsorships for the Marian Chapel still available. If you are interested, please contact Deacon Bill Marten in the church office. If you haven’t pledged, yet please take some time today to do so; it will save us a phone call and you time on the phone. We ask that you be charitable to our campaign volunteers when they do phone you to ask for a pledge. As a reminder….. Father Sunny would like every family in the parish to have an engraved Legacy Paver. All campaign information may be found on the St. John Neumann website: www.sjnlilburn.com.
