God’s abundant love is everywhere around us! I know this is true but I also know that my life can get busy enough that I miss seeing all
the love and grace that surrounds me. Does this ever happen to you?
We invite you to take a short break from your various ministries to recharge and renew your spirit. Please mark your calendar and plan
on joining us on Saturday, October 18, 2014, for our annual San Gabriel Regional Congress, where our theme this year is Abundant Love!
Regional Congress is a great chance for our local churches to gather together, pray together and learn together. This day is not just for
catechists, but for all who want to spend time contemplating our faith and sharing in God’s abundant love.
This past April I started a new ministry as your San Gabriel Regional Coordinator. I am excited to have this opportunity to be on this
journey of faith with all of you and to be of support to you in your very vital ministry for the people of God in your parish. I look forward to
meeting you at Congress, and being of assistance to you throughout the year.

We all have our own story to share, but sometimes it's
hard to find the right words. We tend to forget that
simple story-telling is how we communicate every day
with family, friends, and even strangers. So how can
we use our stories to spread the Gospel? Learn how to
find your faith story and discover what it means to be a
witness for Christ.
From day one, it’s been clear that Pope Francis is a
man on a mission. His vision for the Church is based
on the simple yet powerful truth that the Gospel is
"GOOD NEWS" that yearns to be shared with the
world. Come and see how God calls us to missionary
discipleship. You will walk away with a better idea of
how to inspire your parish to become agents of God's
mission.
Sarah Swisher has been a leader on the Signed and Anointed to
Witness (S.A.W.) retreat for the past eight years. She focuses on
youth leadership development in the Santa Barbara Pastoral
Region, and has helped out at numerous parishes throughout the
Archdiocese in the areas of Confirmation & Youth Ministry. She
received her B.A. in Theological Studies in 2009 and her M.A. in
Pastoral Theology in 2013, both from Loyola Marymount
University in Los Angeles. Sarah is currently the Director of
Campus Ministry at St. Bonaventure High School in Ventura, CA.
Sergio Lopez is a former youth minister and worship leader from
the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. As a passionate husband, musician,
and speaker he has dedicated his ministry to helping everyday
Catholics make a difference in the world. Sergio has an MA in
Religious Studies from Mount St. Mary’s College in Los Angeles. He
has worked for Catholic Relief Services since 2014.
YT 3 EFFECTIVE LEADERSHIP: IDENTIFYING GIFTS AND TALENTS TO GET THINGS DONE
Being a part of a team involves learning how to navigate what each team member brings to the table. Come learn how
to identify gifts and put to work your talents and the gifts of others. Then discuss how to coordinate the talents in our
communities to put together a successful summer dance or put an end to violence in our neighborhoods.
Nick Masero has been working in teen ministry for more than a decade. He served at St. Monica's in Santa Monica and St. John Fisher in
Rancho Palos Verdes. He is on the Christian Leadership Institution (CLI) director's team as well as offering workshops at regional
congresses. Nick just finished law school and looks forward to beginning his career as a civil rights litigator this winter.

Pax Christi is the official Catholic peace movement.
Using the vow of nonviolence and principles, we will
explore: bulling, self image along with gang and
military violence. What is Jesus and Pope Francis
calling us to?
Students’ faith and spirituality are developed when
they are involved in interactive and tactile activities
that have been integrated into your sessions. The
workshop will focus on creative ideas and techniques
that can be immediately used in your learning setting
with elementary aged children. You will take an active
role at this workshop and come away with lots of
practical ideas.
Fr. Christopher Ponnet, ordained for Los Angeles Archdiocese
1983, is Pastor and chaplain at St. Camilus Center for Spiritual
Care. He also serves as Director of Office of Catholic HIV/AIDS
Ministry, Board of Death Penalty Focus, Pax Christi USA, Angel
Interfaith Network, MLGC Ministry with Lesbian and Gay Catholics
and Interfaith Communities United for Justice and Peace.
Helen Marie Slaton, a Master Catechist, serves in ministry at Our
Lady of Malibu parish. Her creative ideas have been published
nationally. She believes that the faith is passed on through tactile
hands on experiences of the faith knowledge being presented.

1-02 WHAT IS THAT RCIA THING?
Let's pray, tell stories, sing songs and do crafts as we
discover new ways to share the joy of the gospel with
your young disciples in grades 1 though 6.
Have you ever wondered what it means when people
talk about RCIA or "the Rite"? This workshop gives a
brief history of adult initiation and the form it takes
today. Great for beginners or those just starting.
Kathy Ritza is currently the Director of Faith Formation at St.
Denis Church in Diamond Bar, CA. She has over 25 years of
experience in catechesis as a parent, grandparent, catechist, DRE,
retreat director and Master Catechist for the Archdiocese of LA.
She is currently a consultant for Our Sunday Visitor.
Fr. Christopher Bazyouros was born and grew up in the San
Gabriel Valley. He entered St. John's Seminary after receiving a
Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry. Ordained in 2003, he is serving in
the Archdiocese at the Office of Religious Education in Adult
Formation.
He also serves the Archdiocesan Liturgical
Commission.

1-08 WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE AN
1-05 FIRE IN THE HEART: FAN THE
ADULT DISCIPLE?
FLAME
Our world and our faith demand an adult Christianity.
Growth beyond a faith that may have served us well in
youth is necessary to meet the demands of our adult
lives and our contemporary world, if we are to truly be
a disciple of Christ. How can we challenge adults to
deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ and not
stagnate in a faith that no longer serves them? Many
classic and contemporary spiritual writers describe a
critical transition on the journey toward the
development of an adult faith and spiritual maturity.
How do we identify this, and how can adults in this
transition be encouraged, nourished, and supported by
our ministries? We will explore what an “adult
growing in faith” looks like, and how we might nurture
a community of adult disciples.
The generations of today and their families are hungry
for meaning, for identity and for acceptance. We
recognize that the challenge for religious educators to
share the richness of our faith tradition to learners at
every stage have never been more demanding. In the
words of Paul VI, we need, “Fire in the heart, words on
our lips and prophecy in the glance” in order to ‘light
the fire’ in our homes, our schools, our parishes. The
session will attempt to both inspire, provide ideas, and
advocate for creative approaches in this enterprise.
Sr. Edith Prendergast is currently the Director of Religious
Education of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and directs the Annual
Religious Education Congress. This event attracts over 40,000
participants annually. She holds a Doctorate in Ministry from
Claremont School of Theology, and a Master's Degree in Theology
from Boston College. She is a frequent speaker nationally and
locally and has written and contributed to several articles on
Spirituality and Catechesis.
Douglas Leal is the Coordinator for Adult Faith Formation and
Young Adult Ministry with the Office of Religious Education, and
was formerly the Director of Ministries for St. Sebastian Church in
West LA. He is also a professional actor and director and
previously worked as a management consultant. Douglas received
his MA from the Boston College School of Theology and Ministry.
He is the author of the skill-building book for lectors, Stop Reading
and Start Proclaiming!

RECONCILIATION AND FIRST
COMMUNION RETREATS
Retreats are a beautiful way to help children prepare to
receive the Sacraments. They offer an opportunity to
journey into the dessert with Jesus and prayerfully
spend time with our Lord, away from the busyness of
life. Children receive great spiritual benefits by walking
that journey with their parents. Come and discover
wonderful ways to plan and facilitate retreats that will
spiritually prepare them for Reconciliation and First
Communion.

Jesus WITNESSED the existence of Father. He came
to witness what is "of the Father." The Holy Spirit
empowers us more so today to be loving Christ's to the
world - to find meaning in all the nonsense! Christ's
Catholic catechists are being asked to "Show me YOUR
experience of God! Show me YOUR experience of the
Joy, Love and Happiness that come with FAITH!

Where is your
excitement? Where is your Zeal? How is it real for
you? I need a Faith that inflates and not deflates! "
Cristina Alba is the Director of Religious Education at St. John
Vianney in Hacienda Heights. Her prior work as an elementary
school teacher as well as a catechist for the past 15 years have
helped her develop a successful Family Catechesis program at the
parish. She is also currently involved in the Advanced Catechetical
Ministries through the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.
Fr. Ken Deasy joined Saint John’s Seminary and went on to serve
as a parish priest at Saint Monica, Saint Bernardine of Siena and
Saint Agatha, where he was pastor for 11 years. Outside of parish
ministry, Fr. Ken became more involved in global missionary work
and detention ministry. More recently, he has served as director of
the Archdiocesan Holy Childhood Association. That involvement led
him to travel to impoverished areas of the world, most notably,
Haiti and South Sudan. Throughout his priestly ministry Fr. Ken
has been an impassioned advocate for youth and young adults and
participated in and/or directed over 50 retreats for that age group.
He is also a published author, most recently of the provocatively
named title: Get Off the Cross, Someone Else Needs the Wood.
1-07 “HOW A SCIENTIST VIEWS
RELIGION, GOD, AND BELIEF”
Rabbi Lotker discusses how his religious faith is
informed and strengthened by his scientific training
and 30 year career as a physicist. He will discuss the
evidence for God’s existence, the truth of the Bible, the
question of how a good and loving God can allow evil
and tragedy in the world and the question of why be
religious.
Rabbi Michael Lotker comes to us with a wealth of experience.
A Phi Beta Kappa/Magna Cum Laude physicist, he spent the bulk of
his first career in the alternative energy business, working in wind
power, solar and geothermal energy. About 500 of the windmills
that are spinning in Palm Springs, California were financed and
installed by a company that Mike was President of. In 2003, he was
ordained as a rabbi at Hebrew Union College in Los Angeles, where
he also received his Master of Hebrew Letters degree. He is
presently Rabbi Emeritus of Temple Ner Ami in Camarillo,
California and Community Rabbi for the Jewish Federation of
Ventura County. In addition to his studies, Mike has published a
book for the Paulist Press entitled "A Christian's Guide to Judaism."

SEEN BY SCIENCE AND FAITH
Sharing the wonders of science with the heart of faith.
Tom Nolan studies Earth from Space at NASA's Jet Propulsion
Laboratory. Looking at God's universe through a microscope and a
telescope, he sees Divine Majesty and beauty in all of nature. Tom is
a Eucharistic Minister at Immaculate Conception parish in
Monrovia and has served on several Cursillo Teams since 1995. He
is also active in Matthew Kelly's Dynamic Catholic evangelization
efforts.

This workshop will explore what it means to reach
every learner regardless of their learning style.
Exploring the 4MAT Learning Cycle and how to apply
this cycle to developing faith formation for children,
youth, and adults.
In light of Pope Francis's "Evangelii Gaudium" or "The
Joy of the Gospel" are we as catechists and teachers
using our gifts to reflect the message of joy when we
teach our faith to others? Do we understand what that
message of joy really means for all of us? Let's look at
how that understanding can help shine a new light on
the gifts that we have been given as catechists and
teachers of our Catholic Faith!
Dr. Charlotte McCorquodale, from New Orleans, LA has been
serving as a lay ecclesial minister for the past 30 years. Since May
of 2000, she has served as President of Ministry Training Source
(MTS). MTS is a non-profit organization committed to the formation
of ministry leaders by providing customized ministry formation
solutions using the latest research and technology. Presently, Dr.
McCorquodale is an international educator, researcher, and
consultant for the fields of lay ecclesial ministry, certification
standards and processes, youth ministry, and e-learning.
Dana Couso has been the Director of Religious Education for the
past 13 yrs at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Santa Clarita
but has been teaching Religious Education for 35 yrs. A Master
Catechist for 7 yrs. she is also the Director of Adult Faith Formation
at her parish in which she also teaches. She has been married for

Terry Cotting-Mogan is currently the Pflaum Publishing Group's
Western Regional Manager, Ms Cotting-Mogan has over 35 years in
catechetical, campus, family, and youth/youth adult ministries at
the parish, school, and diocesan levels. She has spoken at numerous
events at the local, diocesan and national levels. She earned a BA
from Marquette University, a MS from Cardinal Stritch College,
both of Milwaukee WI, and an Advanced Studies Certificate in Youth
Ministry Training from St Mary’s University, Baltimore MD.
Warren G. Kunkle is presently an educational consultant for
William H. Sadlier Inc. He is a Master Catechist and volunteers in
his parish as the High School Confirmation Parent Formation
Coordinator. He has also served as a Parish Administrator, Youth
Minister/Confirmation Coordinator and a variety of other
ministries over the past 25 years. With his wife, Elga and their
three teen-age sons’, a broader understanding of the realities of our
“domestic” church and its unique challenges, will be fore-front in
this presentation.

THE JOYFUL MYSTERIES: A
MODEL FOR MINISTRY
There is a difference between asking a child to be quiet
and asking a child to be still. A child can be quiet but
not be listening. It is impossible to be still and not
listen. Stillness is the door to listening. In Psalm 46
God tells us: “Be still and know that I am God.” In
meditation, children learn to be still and listen. In
their listening they touch into being at peace with God,
with their neighbor and with themselves. A quote
from a 7 year old meditator: “I like to meditate
because I believe silence is God’s language.” Come
learn how it is possible to teach children the regular
practice of meditation.
Mary is the model for our ministry, living according to
the Spirit, listening and pondering on the Word of God
and allowing it to transform the everyday
circumstances of our lives. Mary leads us to discover
the secret of Christian joy, reminding us that
Christianity is, first and foremost, evangelization,
"good news", which has as its heart and its whole
content the person of Jesus Christ, the Word made

Kay Murdy has a Master's Degree in Religious Studies from
Mount St. Mary's College, and is a Master Catechist for the Los
Angeles Archdiocese. Kay is a member of the teaching and
coordinating team of the Catholic Bible Institute co-sponsored by the
Archdiocese Office of Religious Education and Loyola Marymount
University. Kay has written five books on scripture and spirituality
for Resource Publications, and Ligouri Publications. Her novel,
Song of the Dove, a story of Mary of Nazareth, was published by
ACTA, 2014.
Fr. Frank Cassidy has been a priest in the Archdiocese of Los
Angeles for fifty-five years. He has been a keen believer in the
power of Christian meditation for many years. Though he is still
involved in parish work, his retirement in 1995 opened the door for
him to devote more time to the teaching of meditation through
giving talks, workshops and retreats. This past year he journeyed
with a group of 2nd graders from the Parish School to teach them
the daily practice of Christian Meditation.

but her love remains guiding and mentoring teenagers. Isela
received her Bachelor degree in Sociology from CSULB and is
currently working as a Correctional Officer at a juvenile
correctional facility.

Abuse, Bullying and Truancy, and Spousal Abuse. Originally
from Ireland, he has completed graduate studies in theology and
psychology and he regularly presents at local schools and
parishes.
Lillian Cruces has been involved in Religious Education since
1977. She is a long time Catechist and has taught 5th grade and
coordinated Religious activities in the Los Angeles area catholic
schools. She is currently the Director of Religious Education at St.

Raquel Cagigas’ calling and ministry began on the grounds of
San Gabriel Mission; this was her parish, elementary and high
school. She left Southern California for St. Mary's College of
California in Moraga graduating in 2000 with a BS in
Psychology and Religious Studies. She then proceeded into a
pastoral ministry program at the Franciscan School of Theology
in Berkeley, California. Completing her MA for a Multicultural
Church in 2004 she remained in the bay area 3 more years as a
High School Youth Ministry and Confirmation Coordinator at
the Catholic Community of Pleasanton. Moving back to the Los
Angeles Area she took the Campus Ministry position at San
Gabriel Mission High School where she has been teaching
religion and AP psychology for the last 9 years and was recently
promoted to Assistant Principal Dean of Student Life. Raquel
was commissioned in 2012 as a Master Catechist for the state of
California, but most of all she enjoys being the primary
catechist, along with her husband of 12 years, for her 5 year old
daughter and 7 year old son.

A BIBLE STUDY
Jesus makes clear the task of providing spiritual food
for God’s people, from the youngest lambs to the fullgrown sheep, bringing them into the fullness of
spiritual maturity. What is this food which we are to

of God. Dei Verbum, the Vatican II document on
Divine Revelation urges us that easy access to sacred

Marriage Encounter Retrouvaille and Scouting. Presently residing
at St. Didacus Parish in Sylmar.

on ministering to gay and lesbian Catholics with an
emphasis in counseling parents after they've learned
their son or daughter is LGBT. Structured to help
catechists and teachers better communicate with
students and parents, the session will concentrate on
the U.S. Bishops' documents "Always Our
Children" (1997) and "Ministry to Persons with a
Homosexual Inclination: Guidelines for Pastoral
Care" (2006).
Relax…it is true that technology is changing quickly
these days….but the message of Jesus Christ stays the
same!
There are so many great resources on the
internet (and many not so great). How do we find
good “FREE” resources on the internet? Bring your
tablet, laptop or cellphone and we will go on a treasure
hunt to find good Catholic websites for inspirational
videos, lesson plans, and other creative ideas for
teaching children, teens and adults who are living in
the “Jetson” age! Let’s think outside the box – getting
our head in the “Cloud”. We can use today’s social
media and other computer tools to empower our
students to be Disciples of Christ! I will share my top
10 favorite resources; you can share yours, too! We
will also cover ways to share documents, create forms,
and download videos to use in PowerPoint if you are
interested.
Frank McKown is co-chair of the L.A. Archdiocese’s Catholic
Ministry with Lesbian and Gay Persons, founded in 1986 by
Cardinal Mahoney. The ministry is the oldest such organization in
the nation and provides a safe and welcoming environment for
lesbians and gay persons through liturgy, outreach, education, and
fellowship. Mr. McKown has planned and led liturgies and retreats
on a variety of topics and has previously spoken at L.A. Regional
Congress sessions in 2010 – 2013. A lifelong Angelino, he received
his BA from UCLA and MBA from Pepperdine University.
Nancy Longo is the DRE at St. Joseph Parish in Long Beach. She
was the Youth Director for 18 years at St. Bernard's in Bellflower.
She is a Master Catechist, has her Advanced Bible Institute
Certificate and the National Youth Ministry Certificate. Nancy loves
her family – who are spread across the United States, 7 grown
children (his, mine and ours) 14 grandchildren and now her 1st
great-grand daughter! She loves Jesus more than anything and is a

full-time in the Theology Department at Immaculate Heart High
School in Los Angeles, CA.
Katie Zeigler serves the Archdiocese of Los Angeles as Consultant
for Youth Ministry & Confirmation in the Office of Religious
Education. For over 15 years, she has served as Youth Ministry/
Confirmation Coordinator, volunteer team member, and retreat

Fr. Mariano de Blas L.C. es un sacerdote Legionario de Cristo,
nacido en Ávila, España. Realizo sus estudios primarios en
Ontaneda, Santander. Termino Humanidades Clásicas en
Salamanca, España y estudio Filosofía y Teología en la
Universidad Pontificia Gregoriana de Roma, donde obtuvo el
grado de Licenciatura en Filosofía. Ha desarrollado una intensa
actividad de formación de jóvenes y matrimonios como Director del
CEYCA y del Instituto Cumbres, en la ciudad de México. En
Monterrey y Guadalajara, México ha conducido grupos juveniles y
fungió como consejero matrimonial. Dirigió un Centro Empresarial
de Superación Personal y fue asesor de valores en el Instituto
Andes, de San Luis Potosí, donde dirigió un centro de Formación
Familiar. Actualmente radica en Los Ángeles, California,
colaborando en la estación Guadalupe Radio y en televisión, con el
programa "La Alegría de Vivir.” Es un experto en los medios de
comunicación social. Ha escrito diez libros. Se destaca por su
capacidad de motivación para vivir la vida con amor, alegría y
esperanza.

cope with the cross of Depression as Catholics?
Alicia Hengehold, M.A., IMFT graduated from Franciscan
University of Steubenville with a double major in Psychology and
Theology and completed a Master’s in Psychology, Marriage and
Family Therapy. As a bi-lingual therapist, Alicia has worked with
many individuals and families, helping them to overcome issues
such as depression, anxiety, abuse and relationship conflicts. Alicia’s
greatest joy is her family. Alicia continues to rely on her Catholic
faith and relationship with God, through the joys of family life and
the trials that her family has had to face. Her oldest daughter Rose,
3 years old, was diagnosed with brain cancer at the age of 2 months
old. Alicia desires to bring hope to others who may be facing
difficulties that seem hopeless, through the light and joy of the
Gospel message.

Dr. José Antonio Medina obtuvo su doctorado en teología por la
Universidad Pontificia de Salamanca en España y es candidato
para obtener el doctorado en Sociología por la misma Universidad.
Es profesor en diversos Institutos de formación superior de
California y Nevada. Ha escrito varios libros entre los que destacan
"Diálogos Semanales con Jesús" "Temas calientes para jóvenes
cristianos" "Vivir el presente, imaginar el futuro", "Con el corazón
lleno de alegría", entre otros. Actualmente es consultor para la
Conferencia de Obispos de California y Director de la Oficina de la
formación Continua de los Sacerdotes de la Diócesis de San

Norma Montaño ha sido catequista por mas de 16 años, con un

Isela Magallanes ha trabajado con jóvenes por 14 años. Lo que
empezó como trabajo voluntario de pronto se convirtió en una
misión amada. Isela enseño clases de Confirmación por siete años y
continúa dando temas para retiros de jóvenes y adultos, el
Ministerio de Jóvenes, y el Congreso Regional. Ella ha enseñado
todo desde kínder hasta RICA, pero su amor permanece guiando a
los jóvenes. Isela recibió su diploma en Sociología de CSULB y
actualmente trabaja como Oficial de Correcciones en una Juvenil.
Maria Elena Lara tiene más de 20 años de experiencia en la
pastoral juvenil. Ella es conferencista a nivel Diocesano y nacional.
Actualmente trabaja en la parroquia de San Patricio en North
Hollywood como coordinadora de la Confirmación y Life Teen.

Francisco a cumplir con ese sueño….
Héctor Quiroz es director Escuela de Ministerio Pastoral Laico,
en ingles y español, patrocinada por los Oblatos de Maria
Inmaculada de la región de San Fernando. Asistente General y
maestro del Instituto de Pastoral y Evangelización de la
Arquidiócesis de Los Angeles. Estudios de arquitectura en el IPN y
la UNAM en México y graduado del IPE y de la Maestría en
Estudios Religiosos de Mount Saint Mary's College. Estudiante de
la Maestría en Ministerio Pastoral en St. John's seminary,
Camarillo.
Deacon Leonel Yoque nació en Guatemala y es diácono
permanente de la Arquidiócesis de Los Ángeles. Actualmente ejerce
su ministerio como educador y promotor misionero con los Padres
y Hermanos Maryknoll. Leonel ha estado predicando, facilitando
talleres y retiros misioneros en diferentes diócesis y arquidiócesis
de Estados Unidos.

VALORES MERCANTILES?
En este taller exploraremos un método de cuidado
pastoral (reconocer, responder y referir) en el
ministerio con y para los adolescentes y sus familias
que están siendo afectados por automutilación,
bullying, depresión, abuso de drogas, suicido etc. Se
presentaran herramientas y estrategias prácticas.
Los valores no se enseñan, se viven: no se transmiten,
se pone a la persona en situación de que descubra lo
que merece la pena aprender y por lo que vale la pena
vivir. En este taller encontraremos algunas pautas para
elegir valores que den sentido y dirección a cuanto se
realiza para vivir de una manera significativa y
satisfactoria, diciéndolo de manera sencilla; para vivir
en plenitud.
Christina Lamas ha trabajado en el ramo de la catequesis por
más de 15 años. Actualmente es la directora asociada y la
coordinadora del ministerio para adolescentes de la Oficina de
Educación Religiosa en la Arquidiócesis de Los Ángeles. Recibió una
maestría de trabajo social de la Universidad del Sur de California.
Le apasiona inspirar y motivar a los jóvenes a encontrar maneras
de vivir su fe. Ella considera su ministerio más importante el ser
mama de su hija, Bella.
Lourdes González-Rubio es la Coordinadora de Ministerios
Catequísticos Básicos y Avanzados en Español para la Oficina de
Educación Religiosa de nuestra Arquidiócesis desde 1991. Colaboró
con la Oficina para el Culto Divino, también de nuestra,
Arquidiócesis, dando entrenamiento a los ministros litúrgicos desde
1986, tiene treinta años de experiencia en la pastoral hispana. Ha
sido invitada a dar conferencias en las Diócesis de San Diego,
Fresno, Sacramento, San Bernardino y Oakland. Es autora de dos
libros de poesía y uno de reflexiones para la compañía Ligoure,
titulado “Entre Diosito y yo”.

Francisco. "Encuentro personal con Cristo"
Catequista: Ve con Gozo y con gran Alegría a presentar
tus catequesis. Así revelas tu amor por Dios, por lo que
haces y por los demás, especialmente por tus
catequizados que merecen lo mejor de ti. En este
Taller se les darán ideas de actividades que les
recuerde lo aprendido e ideas para crear oraciones
según el tema a presentar.
Sr. Luz Dari Villera Religiosa de la Comunidad Hermanitas de
la Anunciación. Trabaja en la Parroquia Santa Cruz del Sur de los
Angeles. Coordina el programa de Confirmación, apoya a los
ministerios de su Parroquia y de otras Parroquias con platicas.
También ayuda a otros ministerios dentro de E.U.A y fuera del
País, con retiros y platicas para diferentes audiencias. En su País
hizo sus estudios de Misionología y Antropología con Énfasis en
Sociales, en la Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana. Fue Maestra de
Escuelas Secundarias. Ha participado en los Congresos De
Educación Religiosa, de Salud y de Sanación desde el Contexto
Sacramental en México, en otros congresos intensivos de
formación, cursos de pastoral, colabora en el equipo de
Especialización para la Confirmación en la Arquidiócesis de los
Angeles, y en el básico para elemental, apoya en lo que esté dentro
de sus posibilidades a la Iglesia.

2-21 HABLEMOS DE LA VIOLENCIA
DOMESTICA
Desgraciadamente la violencia doméstica es un
problema muy grave en muchas familias. Las
parroquias, las oficinas de educación religiosa, los
movimientos eclesiales especialmente los que
acompañaba a los matrimonios y a las familias deben
saber como enfrentar esta situación. En este taller
explicaremos las raíces culturales, lo que la Sagrada
Escritura dice, lo que la Ley de California y lo que los
obispos nos piden que hagamos para parar este
pecado.

2-23 ACTITUD POSITIVA ANTE LA VIDA
CON LA ALEGRIA DE DIOS
Nuestra vida es el resultado de nuestros pensamientos.
Por eso hay que decir que, si cambias tus
pensamientos, cambiará tu vida. Nos lavamos la cara y
el cuerpo, y está muy bien, pero no siempre lavamos la
mente de la basura mental de pensamientos tristes,
rencorosos, pesimistas. Debemos colocar un guardia
muy estricto para que no deje pasar ninguno de esos
pensamientos negativos y, por el contrario, debemos
atraer y retener todos los pensamientos buenos y
saludables que podamos encontrar, ya sea en la Biblia
o en otros pensadores positivos.
Los Sacramentos expresan el amor de Dios que nos
llena tanto que queremos compartir la alegria del
Evangelio con los demas.
Rev. Norma Supancheck nació en Long Beach y fue al Seminario
de San Juan. Fue ordenado sacerdote en 1968 y ha servido en varias
parroquias. Fue Ministro de la Universidad Estatal de California
por 8 años y Ministro de la escuela secundaria Bishop Alemany por
12 años. Trabaja con EPJ, SI, Encuentro de Novios, Encuentro
Matrimonial Retrouvaille y Scouting. Actualmente es Capellán en
Bishop Alemany, con reside en la parroquia de San Didacus en
Sylmar.

En la era de la tecnología y el materialismo, el
catequista es el nuevo apóstol y profeta que con los
medios a su alcance forma testigos de Cristo y
propagadores del Evangelio, en cumplimiento a su
misión en la comunidad en que vive.
Y UNA SÉPTIMA QUE…
El Papa Francisco dice que, ¿para qué complicar lo que
es tan simple? ¿para qué oscurecer lo que es tan claro?
(EA no. 194). En este Taller aremos una reflexión
teológica sobre las cosas que Dios “detesta y aborrece”.
Los destinatarios de este Taller son todos aquellos
servidores o líderes que desean hacer una revisión de
su comportamiento y actitudes en los ministerios
mixtos de la Iglesia.
Fernando Baeza es coordinador del Ministerio Hispano en la
Parroquia del "Divine Saviour", Certificado Agente de Pastoral por
el Instituto de Pastoral y Evangelización de la Arquidiócesis de Los
Angeles, Licenciado en Ministerio Cristiano; certificado en una
Maestría M.A.P.S y con Maestría en Divinidad; Secretario General
del I.P.E. y ex miembro del Consejo Pastoral Diocesano en San
Fernando y miembro del mismo en la Parroquia del "Divine
Saviour". Ha ofrecido conferencias en diferentes parroquias de la
Arquidiócesis de Los Angeles invitado por los grupos de oración y es
responsable en su parroquia base de la formación de Fe para
adultos en Inglés, así como de Sacramentos para Adultos en Inglés.
Heriberto Cayetano tiene cerca de 20 años trabajando en la
Pastoral Hispana en la Arquidiócesis de Los Ángeles.
Actualmente es Director del Ministerio Hispano de la parroquia
del Sagrado Corazón de Lancaster, CA. Es Certificado en
Estudios Pastorales por Loyola Marymount University y cuenta
con dos Maestrías: una en Artes Pastorales y otra en Divinidad,
ambas por Azusa Pacific University (APU), además es miembro
del Consejo Teológico Hispano de dicha Institución.
2-29 ALEGRÍA SEÑORAS Y SEÑORES,
VAMOS A LA CASA DEL SEÑOR
Uno de los símbolos que más influyen en la
celebración cristiana es el mismo edificio donde se
reúne la comunidad para su oración y se le llama,
como a la misma comunidad “Iglesia”. Dios se revela
en todo lo que nos rodea, siempre que seamos capaces
de entender lo que nos comunica en cada momento, al
caminar dentro de un edificio religioso, iglesia, templo
capilla o catedral, etc. nos encontramos rodeados de
símbolos.
Crucifijo, velas, altar, tabernáculo,
asamblea de creyentes,
todo tiene un sentido
simbólico, te invito a profundizar en el simbolismo
cristiano católico, conocer más nuestra iglesia, los
espacios sagrados y celebrativos y formar a nuestros
alumnos en el amor por todo lo que es nuestra Iglesia.
2-25 CONFIRMACIÓN: ¡WOW QUE
RETO!
Compartiremos ideas de las cualidades de un
catequista de confirmación. Y como nuestra actitud y
catequesis debe luchar contra la indiferencia, la
depresión y la falta de interés en los jóvenes
adolescentes. ¡wow que reto!

Todos los catequistas, tarde o temprano en su
ministerio, se topan con niños que son difíciles de
manejar en el salón de clases. El taller ofrece
introspección en la problemática psicológica y modos
saludables de reacción.

Rudolf Finke recibió su licenciatura en Teología y Estudios
Religiosos en la Universidad de Marburg, Alemania. Es formador de
catequistas en Alemania, Argentina, Paraguay, México y EU. En los
últimos 30 años ha dado conferencias sobre catequesis, Sagrada
Escritura, Pedagogía y Psicología en 15 diócesis de EU. Desde enero
2003, es socio fundador del centro "Desarrollo Integral
Comunitario" en Wilmington, CA. Colabora en programas de radio
de la arquidiócesis de Los Ángeles y "El Sembrador." Ha publicado
algunos materiales sobre educación familiar, relaciones de la pareja
y comunicación.

ACUERDO A JESÚS, “…SI TÚ
QUIERES YO QUIERO…”
3-17 CATEQUISTA EXCEPCIONAL PARA
Mirando pasajes de la Biblia donde se mencionan
mujeres, se encuentra un gran sentido de poder
compartido y muchos ejemplos de mujeres a las que se
les ha dado autoridad. El ministerio de la mujer se
trata de un cambio de mentalidad, de un nuevo
paradigma teológico, que exige tiempo, renovación
generacional y, sobre todo, un cambio de actitudes y de
mentalidades. De ahí, las inevitables resistencias al
cambio, el peso de la inercia y la desesperanza de los
que captan la lentitud de los cambios y la resistencia de
la misma Iglesia en su conjunto. San Juan Pablo II en
su documento “La Dignidad de la Mujer” nos exhorta a
reconocer la dignidad y el trabajo espiritual y
catequético que la mujer ha ejercido durante toda la
historia de la Iglesia. Te invito a conocer más del
ministerio de la mujer en la actualidad partiendo desde
las palabras de Jesus “…si tú quieres yo quiero…”
UN NIÑO/A EXCEPCIONAL
En nuestro llamado del Señor, a ser Catequistas somos
llamados a servir a todos los niños. ¿Que sucede
cuando llega a nuestra clase un niño/a excepcional,
aquel que tiene necesidades especiales? Esta situación
nos convierte automáticamente en catequistas
excepcionales. Este taller le mostrara como usted
puede ser una catequista excepcional y recibir ese
llamado de Nuestro Señor.
Jennifer Ayon ha servido como Catequista de Educación Religiosa
por 10 años primero con niños y despues como instructora de
Confirmación. Jennifer recibió una Maestría de Ciencias en
Consejería y un Bachillerato de Ciencias en Servicios de
Rehabilitación; su énfasis es en ayudar a personas con
discapacidades a lograr sus metas personales, sociales y
vocacionales. Actualmente ella es una Maestra Catequista para la
Arquidiócesis de Los Angeles.

profundizar en la vocación bautismal, la mission y la
respuesta desde la realidad que vivimos o nos
movemos a nivel personal, familiar, social, Eclesial y
Parroquial. Nos permitiremos hacer un viaje en barco
hacia nuestro pasado hasta la actualidad, con mi
respuesta como discípulos (a) a todos las gentes.

Un Plan Semanal. Compartiremos ideas de cómo
enriquecer nuestras sesiones catequéticas dándoles ese
enfoque que energice nuestro espíritu. Usaremos
recursos que pueden embellecer estas reuniones:
música, videos, arte, y medios de comunicación en
internet. Los catequistas pueden poner en práctica
inmediatamente estas ideas y actividades en su salón
de clase porque son fáciles de hacer y recordar.

3-19 LA CARIDAD VIRTUD TEOLOGAL
La caridad es la reina de todas las virtudes. Jesús lo
ratificó recordando que el segundo mandamiento
consiste en amar al prójimo como a sí mismo. “Éste es
mi mandamiento que os améis los unos a los otros,
como Yo os he amado”. Nos recalcó que todo lo que
hacemos a los demás se lo hacemos a Él. Por eso en el
juicio final el veredicto definitivo será éste: “Venid,
benditos de mi Padre, a tomar posesión del reino de
los cielos, porque tuve hambre y me disteis de comer,
tuve sed y me disteis de beber…” Al final de la vida se
nos examinará del amor.

Educación Religiosa. Con una especialización en la Pastoral
Hispana del Colegio Mount Saint Mary’s en Los Angeles,CA. Forma

IDEAS PRACTICAS PARA EL
DESARROLLO DE LA FE
ES LO QUE SE BUSCA EN EL RITO
DE INICIACIÓN?
Cuando se trata de la recepción de los sacramentos de
iniciación, por lo regular los padrinos se presentan a la
ultima solo para celebrar los sacramentos. Muchas
veces quedamos frustrados por la falta de participación
de ellos. ¿Hay otra opción para realizar el Rito de
Iniciación Cristiana para adultos y adaptado para
niños que trata de responder a lo que el rito invita?
El proceso de la formación en la fe es cuando la persona
comprende que tenemos nuestra fe en Dios inculcada
dentro de nosotros. La Gracia nos ayuda a ver, oír y
sentir esta fe en Dios. Los niños de todas edades tienen
esta fe también. El reto de el catequista es ayudarles a
descubrir su fe. En este taller nos enfocaremos en ideas
practicas para ayudarles a los niños descubrir su fe y
celebrarla. Se compartirán manualidades para la sesión
de religión que le ayuden al catequista fomentar esta fe
incipiente de los niños.

3-28 EL PROCESO DE CONVERTIRSE
Víctor Valenzuela es consultor bilingüe a nivel nacional de
William H. Sadlier Inc. Por más de 20 años ha estado trabajando en
el ministerio hispano. Ha sido maestro de secundaria y ha
colaborado en diversos ministerios parroquiales incluyendo
pastoral juvenil y educación religiosa, donde tiene una gran
experiencia preparando materiales. Terminó sus estudios superiores
en el seminario St. Joseph en Mountain View, California y tiene dos
años de teología cursados en el seminario St. Patricks. También
tiene su maestría en educación religiosa de la Universidad de San
Francisco. Nació en Arizona de padres mexicanos, ha vivido la
mayor parte de su vida en el área de la bahía. Actualmente vive en
Alameda, CA.
EN PERSONA ADULTA
No podemos llegar a ser plenamente personas sin
establecer una relación directa con el mundo. La
persona humana es un ser inacabado, está llamada a ir
más allá. Cuando escucha su interior, descubre
siempre una llamada a participar en su propio
crecimiento. Por medio de esta charla trataremos de
hacer caminos que nos conduzcan a ser capaces de: a)
ser personas conscientes que anhelan dar sentido a su
vida. b) ser personas capaces de amar; que se
comunican con otras personas de tal manera que se
hacen presente a la otra / al otro.

corazón. Conoce sus dones y gracias para que puedas
dar frutos de amor en tu catequesis.
A. Karina Plascencia es madre de tres niñas hermosas sirviendo
como la Coordinadora Regional de San Pedro para la Oficina de
Educación Religiosa de la Arquidiócesis de Los Angeles. Además de
ministrar en la educación religiosa, Karina habla de la realidad de
la fe y las finanzas, ofreciendo talleres de bienestar financiero a
padres, jóvenes y parejas que se preparan para el matrimonio /
confirmación. Obtuvo su bachillerato de la Universidad Loyola
Marymount y ha sido Master Catechist desde el 2009.
Claudia Cortez es maestra de Catequistas y trabajo como
Directora de Educación Religiosa en la Iglesia de la Inmaculada
Concepción, en Monrovia. Le he servido al Señor en diferentes
ministerios, en el coro, como catequista, lectora, Ministro de la
Eucaristía, Liturgia para Niños, RICA.
3-26 ES TU CUERPO EL MILAGRO CON
QUE DIOS ME ACARICIÓ
La encarnación y personificación como pedagogía. En
este taller haremos una reflexión que nos invite a
reconocer que el cuerpo humano es la materia prima y
el locus por medio del cual compartimos el mensaje de
la buena nueva de Jesucristo, y con el cual Dios
alcanza, toca y recrea al mundo y su pueblo.
Giovanni Perez es el Consultor de la Catequesis Primaria para la
Arquidiócesis de Los Angeles. Tiene una Maestría en Estudios
Religiosos y un Bachillerato en Psicología, además de ser un
Maestro de Catequistas. Ha sido Director de Educación Religiosa
por más de veinte años en dos parroquias distintas de la
Arquidiócesis de Los Angeles. Su experiencia ministerial incluye
trabajo con jóvenes, encarcelados, evangelización y catequesis.
Giovanni y su esposa han criado una familia de cuatro jóvenes
adultos llenos de vida y energía.
