EXT. CELINA’S HOUSE - DAY
SYNOPSIS
EXT. TOLLBOOTH - DAY
Celina is an introspective and shy girl who lives in a desert working-class
neighborhood. She has a boyfriend and works at a deserted tollbooth in order
to provide for her father who is very sick.
But on a Sunday after coming back from church she finds him dead.
Organizing her father’s belongings, she discovers the address where her
mother lives in Italy. Celina then resigns from her work at the tollbooth, to sell
books door to door, just like her father did.
How almost everything works is an American encyclopedia that has all the
answers, selling it will allow her to save money to look for her mother, the only
one she has left.
EXT. TOLLBOOTH - DAY
During her first sales journey she does not manage to sell anything, but discovers that her mother never left to Italy, but remade her life and lives on the
other side of the desert.
Celina then finds the courage to cross the desert she saw from her tollbooth,
and with the excuse to sell her an encyclopedia, knocks on the door of her
mother’s house.
“
A film that introduces a brave new director capable
of running risks directing his actors, in casting selection,
and in a new narrative and visual proposal turning his
personal experiences in a unique and touching film.

DIRECTOR’S MOTIVATION
I came to think that every December I would fall in love and that every
March they would leave me again. Playing with statistics I draw the
conclusion that I would die at the age of 31. I firmly believed that a
streak of bad luck was the natural consequence of a previous period of
good fortune.
I maintained that the time to recover from a rupture was directly
proportional to the duration of the relationship.
Nothing worked.
EXT. DESERT - DAY
We could find the explanation to these phenomena in religion, self-help,
our parents, horoscope, psychoanalysis, sales courses, encyclopedias
and even in some films.
However, most of the time all this is not enough and we feel the impulse
to look for our own answers.
How almos eveything works it is the fight of logic, calculation, parameters and encyclopedias against destiny, luck, love, god, death, chance
and some of our human feelings.
If a salesman was to knock on my door offering an amazing book that
answers to all my queries, it wouldn’t be easy to convince me.
I think that sometimes there are things that don’t have an explanation
and that isn’t all bad.
We all cross a desert loading with our heavy incomplete encyclopedias.
¿Don’t we?

When my grandmother was dying, my mom was next to her in the
hospital. Suddenly she saw a butterfly landed on top of the oxygen mask.
She waved her hands and accidentally scared it away. It went flying out the
small window on top them.
Just a few moments later, my grandmother stopped breathing.
You can call it God, Holy Spirit, soul, butterfly, moth. But, does it matter?
Later she told me she never before saw someone dying, and she couldn’t
explain the moment of peace she felt.
She couldn´t explain it.
Maybe there are things that doesn’t have an explanation.
And that’s ok.
