LETTER FROM OUR PASTOR
Dear Parishioners,
David Quessenberry is a 6-foot five-inch, 26 year old
offensive tackle for the Houston Texans. He is a Catholic.
And three years ago he was diagnosed with cancer. He
describes how shocking it was: “I was scared, angry and
confused, wondering why I had gotten such an awful return
on my athletic investment. So much effort was put in, but
something really horrible was coming in return. The
diagnosis and the treatment were trying, emotional
times…This is a grueling process that takes almost
everything you have out of you.” And yet he managed to see
the hidden glory of God in the midst of clouds and
suffering. He says: “There is so much down time during
treatment, which I often used in order to talk to God and ask
why this was happening and what he wanted me to do with
it.” He began to see experience God more in prayer. He
experienced God’s power. And David Quessenberry
discovered
God’s
hidden
glory
in
the
Mass.
What do we see in the Mass? It looks like a piece of bread
and a chalice of wine. And yet we believe that after the words
of consecration God is on the altar. Listen to his words: “The
Mass is unique to any religion, because it’s the only place
you can receive, not only the gifts our Savior gave us, but
our Savior himself, in the Eucharist.” Quessenberry’s cancer
is in remission, and he plans to be on the Texans’ active
roster for 2017, even after a 4 year absence. . He’s a living
illustration of discovering God in any circumstance, and
uncovering
those
hidden
epiphanies.
In our own lives, how can we come to recognize the ways
God manifests himself? How can we come to understand
and accept that God’s glory is a hidden glory? It’s certainly
worth it. This brings us so much peace. One time-tested path
towards this is thankfulness. Thankfulness opens our hearts
to God’s action. When you’re grateful for something, you
begin to see it from a new dimension. Two people can
receive the same gift, but if one is grateful and the other
isn’t, the grateful person will see the gift in a completely
different light. Thankfulness takes the pressure off us. We
come to recognize that God is God, and I, thankfully, am not.
I am freed to accept Him as He wants to manifest himself.
So each day, thank God for at least one thing. And let’s
extend this even further. Try thanking God not only for the
gifts you have, but also for the gifts you don’t have. Maybe
there’s some gift I’d love to have. I’d like to be smarter or
more successful or more patient or more confident. Can I
find God’s epiphany even in absence? Try thanking Him in
all things. This inspires us to continue working to grow
closer to God, but it also frees us from the need to be
perfect. God isn’t waiting to have a relationship with us. It’s
already there. Each day, thank God for something you’re
grateful for. And let’s try to thank Him even for those gifts we
don’t have. Let’s thank Him for the greatest gift of all –
Himself. The word Eucharist we just celebrated together
actually means “Thanksgiving.” So , let’s continue to thank
Christ for this gift. that God has manifested himself to us,
with a hidden yet powerful glory.

CARTA DE NUESTRO PÁRROCO
Queridos Parroquianos,
David Quessenberry de 6 pies cinco pulgadas, 26 años de edad
juega para los Houston Texans. Él es un católico. Y hace tres años
fue diagnosticado con cáncer. Él describe que impactante fue:
"estaba asustado, enojado y confundido, preguntando por qué
había conseguido un retorno tan horrible de mi inversión deportiva.
Tanto esfuerzo puesto, y algo realmente horrible venía a cambio. El
diagnóstico y el tratamiento fueron difíciles, tiempos de mucha
emoción ... Se trata de un proceso agotador que saca casi todo lo
que tienes de ti." Y sin embargo se las arregló para ver la gloria
oculta de Dios en medio de las nubes y el sufrimiento. Él dice: "Hay
mucho tiempo durante el tratamiento, que a menudo usaba para
hablar con Dios y preguntar por qué esto estaba pasando y lo que
quería hacer con ello" Empezó a experimentar más a Dios en
oración. Él experimentó el poder de Dios. David Quessenberry
descubrió la gloria oculta de Dios en la Misa.
¿Lo que vemos en la Misa? Parece un pedazo de pan y un cáliz de
vino. Y sin embargo creemos que después de las palabras de la
consagración que Dios está en el altar. Escuchar sus palabras: "la
Misa es única para cualquier religión, porque es el único lugar
donde puede recibir, no sólo los dones que nuestro Salvador nos
dio, sino a nuestro Salvador mismo, en la Eucaristía". El cáncer de
Quessenberry está en remisión, y planea estar en la agenda activa
de los texanos para el 2017, incluso después de una ausencia de 4
años. Es una ilustración viva de descubrir a Dios en cualquier
circunstancia y de descubrir esas epifanías ocultas.
En nuestras propias vidas, ¿cómo podemos llegar a reconocer las
maneras en que Dios se manifiesta? ¿Cómo podemos llegamos a
comprender y aceptar que la gloria de Dios es una gloria oculta? Sin
duda vale la pena. Esto nos trae tanta paz. Una trayectoria
comprobada en esta dirección es agradecimiento.
El
agradecimiento abre nuestros corazones a la acción de Dios.
Cuando estás agradecido por algo, comienzas a ver desde una
nueva dimensión. Dos personas pueden recibir el mismo regalo,
pero si uno es agradecido y la otra no, la persona agradecida verá el
regalo en una luz completamente diferente. El agradecimiento
quita la presión de nosotros. Llegamos a reconocer que Dios es
Dios, y, afortunadamente, yo no. Yo estoy libre para aceptarlo
cuando él quiera manifestarse.
Así cada día, agradecemos a Dios por al menos una cosa. Y vamos a
extender esto aún más. Trate de dar gracias a Dios no solo por los
dones que tiene, sino también por los regalos que no tiene. Tal vez
hay algún regalo que le encantaría tener. Me gustaría ser más
inteligente o más acertado o más pacientes o más confiado. ¿Puedo
encontrar Epifanía de Dios incluso en ausencia? Trate de darle en
todas las cosas. Esto nos inspira a seguir trabajando para crecer
más cerca de Dios, sino también nos libera de la necesidad de ser
perfecto. Dios no está esperando a tener una relación con nosotros.
Ya está allí. Cada día, da gracias a Dios por algo y se agradecido. Y
vamos a intentar dar las gracias incluso por esos dones que no
tenemos. Vamos a agradecerle el regalo más grande de todos – a sí
mismo. La palabra Eucaristía que hemos celebrados juntos en
realidad significa "Acción de gracias." Por lo tanto, sigamos dando
las gracias a Cristo por este regalo. que Dios nos ha manifestado a sí
mismo, con una gloria oculta pero potente.

Epifanía de Nuestro Señor
Que, a través de nuestro aporte generoso, podamos
mostrar nuestra gratitud a Dios por el gran regalo de
enviar a su Hijo amado para salvarnos.
"Entonces abrieron sus tesoros y le hicieron ofrendas de
oro, incienso y mirra." Mateo 2:11
La imagen de los Reyes Magos arrodillados ante el niño
Jesús y abriendo sus arcones de tesoros para Él es una
imagen que todos debemos tratar de seguir durante todo
el año. En agradecimiento por todo lo que nos ha sido
dado, estamos llamados a compartir generosamente
todos nuestros dones, no sólo los que tomamos y
elegimos. Dios quiere que seamos los más generosos con
eso que signifique más para nosotros.
¿POR QUE LOS PADRINOS Y MADRINAS DE BAUTISMO
TIENEN QUE ESTAR CASADOS POR LA IGLESIA? El ser
padrino o madrina, no solo de Bautismo, sino de cualquier
Sacramento, representa a la misma Iglesia. No es solo porque es
alguien de la familia, conocido, o el que va a pagar la fiesta. Los
padrinos y madrinas, representan en ese momento a nuestra Iglesia.
Y si la representan lo deben hacer de manera completa. Tenemos
muy seguido solicitudes para bautizar pidiendo que alguna pareja
que están casados solo por la ley civil y no por la Iglesia, sean los
padrinos. La respuesta es NO pueden, porque entonces NO están
representando completamente a la Iglesia. No juzgamos por que si o
por que no se han casado por la Iglesia, eso es algo personal, pero si
están queriendo ser padrinos por la Iglesia es porque van a dar
ejemplo de vida a su ahijado(a) viviendo su fe y recibiendo sus
sacramentos. El ahijado o ahijada esta “viendo” en sus padrinos que
el Sacramento del Matrimonio no es necesario, y la realidad es que
necesitamos a Dios en nuestras vidas y dar ejemplo de su presencia
en todo lo que hacemos. Si invitando a Dios al casarnos por la Iglesia,
nos va como nos va, que pasa si no lo tenemos?
BAUTISMO DE NUESTRO SEÑOR JESUCRISTO:
"Y he aquí una voz del cielo decía: «Éste es mi Hijo
amado; estoy muy complacido con él" (Mateo 3:17) En
el Bautismo de Jesús, Dios dejó claro que Él nos estaba
dando el mejor regalo que El pudiera dar. Nos estaba
dando a Su único Hijo. Cuando se piensa bien sobre la
magnitud del regalo de recibir a Jesús para ser salvos,
además de todas las otras bendiciones que Dios ha
confiado en nuestras manos, esto da un sentimiento de
humildad. Dios nos ha dado tanto. ¿Qué damos de vuelta?
Mis Hermanos espero que hayan pasado una feliz
navidad y un ano 2017 lleno de bendiciones, y pues
con la entrada del Año también vienen unas pequeñas
responsabilidades, y una de ellas es que hay que
reservar nuestros cuartos para las reuniones de esta
Año 2017, por favor de llenar la forma Rosa en la
Oficina o en la página de internet, no se aceptaran

Baptism of the Lord: “And a voice came from the heavens,
saying, ‘This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well
pleased.’ (Matthew 3:17). At the Baptism of Jesus, God made it
clear that He was giving us the greatest gift He could give. He
was giving us His only Son. When you think about the magnitude
of that gift of Jesus sent to save us, plus all of the many other
blessings that God has entrusted into our hands, it is very
humbling. God has given us so much. What do we give in return?

Bautismos
PARA TODAS LAS PERSONAS INTERESADAS EN BAUTIZAR,
los próximos bautizos se realizarán el 18 de Febrero del
2017. Si desea bautizar en esta fecha, favor de registrarse
antes de 27 de enero en la oficina. Recuerden que el
espacio es limitado y que tienen que ser miembros
registrados de la parroquia por al menos dos meses.
¿POR QUE EN ESTADOS UNIDOS ES TAN IMPORTANTE SER
MIEMBRO REGISTRADO DE UNA IGLESIA? En nuestra Arquidiócesis
de Galveston-Houston, se nos sugiere que seamos miembros registrados
de la parroquia a la que acudimos con frecuencia. Los beneficios de ser
miembro registrado de San Jeronimo incluyen: Recibir sacramentos tales
como bautizos, matrimonio - Recibir bendición de quinceañeras
Misas de Funeral - Visita y comunión a los enfermos confinados en sus
hogares o en hospitales del area.
San Jerónimo mantiene un archivo de su membresía y donaciones para
si en alguna ocasión necesita una carta de recomendación (para
migración). Al final del año, le enviamos por correo un estado de cuenta
de sus donaciones para que haga su deducción en los impuestos/IRS.
Descuento en la colegiatura de las escuelas Católicas. Ayuda con comida
y ropa de San Vicente de Paul. Se puede ganar una hermosa Biblia en
cada misa por medio de su sobre. Y en cuanto a nosotros, este registro
nos sirve para saber a cuantas familias servimos. Es muy importante dar
un ejemplo positivo a nuestros hijos. Esta práctica se puede pasar de
generación en generación. Lo invitamos a que seriamente reconsidere el
registrarse en San Jerónimo el tercer domingo de cada mes después de
la Misa de 12 medio día.
