A Regulation and Measuring Station (RMS) is installed at the inlet of the gas combined
cycle plants, and their mainly function is to regulate the temperature and pressure of the
gas supply to the turbine to always maintain the highest performance and to measure the
flow rate and composition of gas supplied to the plant.
A Regulation and measuring station consists of a series of mounted equipment on one or more
skids and specifically design in accordance with the installation conditions and the gas supplier
company specifications.
The RMS is designed, built and delivered including all the equipment needed for its operation
and control.
In any industrial application where natural gas is present, the conditions required by the installation differ in temperature and pressure of the conditions supplied by the pipeline. Therefore,
the installation of regulation and measuring stations will be needed. In particular, this is really
important for gas turbines in order to optimize their performance and protect it against system
failures, pressure shocks, solid particles, condensation of gas or adverse conditions. The gas
used for the turbine gas must meet very stringent requirements.
Una estación de regulación y medida (ERM) se instala a la entrada de gas de las centrales de
ciclo combinado, y tiene como función regular la temperatura y presión de suministro de
combustible a la turbina para mantener siempre el máximo rendimiento, así como medir
el caudal y la composición de gas suministrado a la instalación.

ante fallos del sistema, golpes de presión, partículas en suspensión, condensación del gas o
cualesquiera condiciones adversas, el combustible que utilizan debe de cumplir con una serie
de requisitos muy estrictos.

» Emergency shut down valve (ESDV). It is one or more emergency valves placed as the
inlet to the RMS; between the gas pipeline of the customer and the RMS. This valve is normally open, and are actuated by a single acting cylinder (spring return) scotch yoke and fed
by the gas line itself or by an electrohydraulic actuator (EH actuator). These valves monitor
the gas and the temperature at the entrance of the RMS, and its function is exclusively the
security of the installation, for example closing the gas supply in case that appears any
problem that might jeopardize the main plant equipment.

de emergencia que se colocan como primera etapa; justo después de la toma de gas en

FILTERS | FILTROS
» Filters. It is essential that the turbine receives gas completely clean, without any particles,
condensation or impurities that might cause problems. Usually two different filtering stages
are placed. The first built in carbon steel, made a first selection of solid particles, rust,
condensates or impurities that could come from the pipeline, and it’s usually placed before
the inlet to the metering area. In addition to the above filters a second stage is used at the
output of the regulation stage and before the turbine for a finer filter, blocking the passage of
any further impurities that could be generated within the RMS. This second stage is usually
made of stainless steel to prevent entrainment of rust particles that could damage the turbine. Filter units may be of several types: cartridge, cyclone separators... This equipment
normally also incorporates condensate tanks, isolating valves, drains and all the instrumentation needed to control this system.
» Filtros. Es esencial que la turbina reciba el gasa totalmente limpio, sin ningún tipo de partículas, condensaciones o impurezas que pudieran causar problemas. Habitualmente se
colocan dos etapas diferentes de filtrado. La primera de ellas, construida en acero al carbono, hace una primera criba de partículas sólidas, óxido, condensados o impurezas que
pudieran provenir del gasoducto, y normalmente se coloca antes de la entrada a la zona
de medición. Además de los filtros anteriores se coloca una segunda etapa a la salida de
la zona de regulación, antes de la turbina para conseguir un filtrado más fino, bloqueando
el paso de alguna impureza adicional que se pudiera generar dentro de la propia ERM.
Esta segunda etapa suele estar fabricada en acero inoxidable para evitar el arrastre de
partículas de óxido que pudieran dañar la turbina. Las unidades de filtrado pueden ser de
varios tipos: de cartucho, separadores ciclónicos, etc. También suelen incorporar tanques
de condensados, válvulas de corte, drenajes y toda la instrumentación necesaria para
controlar el sistema.
PRESSURE CONTROL VALVE | REGULACIÓN DE PRESIÓN
» Pressure Control Valve. Pressure and temperature must be controlled to the optimum
point that maximizes the performance of the turbine. These parameters depend from its
design (brand and model) and from the conditions of the gas pipeline inlet. Therefore a
pressure reduction and control stage is required. Depending of each customer installation
different configurations (control valves mounted in series and / or parallel) will be used to
ensure the proper system operation and the protection of the turbine to any emergency.
The most common system involves the placement of an active pressure regulation valve
(PRV) with other unit that will act as a monitor of the system and remains completely open,
without interfering with the system, acting only in case of failure of the first unit. The regulation stage is critical in the system and therefore always be redundant design.
» Válvula Reguladora de Presión. Tanto la presión como la temperatura han de ser reguladas hasta el punto óptimo que maximice el rendimiento de la turbina. Estos parámetros
dependerán tanto de su diseño —marca y modelo— como de las condiciones a las que el
sistema recibe el gas de la red. Por tanto se necesita una etapa de reducción y el control de
la presión. Dependiendo de los requisitos de cada instalación se utilizan diferentes configuraciones (válvulas reguladoras montadas en serie y/o paralelo) para garantizar el funcionamiento del sistema y la protección de la turbina ante cualquier emergencia. El sistema más
habitual contempla la colocación de una válvula reguladora activa a continuación de otra
unidad que actuará como monitor del sistema y que permanece completamente abierta,
sin interferir en el sistema, actuando sólo en caso de fallo de la primera unidad. La etapa
de regulación es fundamental en el sistema y por ello su diseño siempre será redundante.

» Heating unit.The temperature at which the fuel from the pipeline is received is usually less
than that required by the turbine. In fact, sometimes the gas may contain small ice particles
that can damage the turbine in the case of achieving it. Furthermore, the gas temperature
in the pressure reduction stage (due to the expansion of the gas) decreases its temperature.
Therefore there should be a system of natural gas heating, which can be of various types:
Shell and tube heat exchangers, electric heaters, indirect heating water baths… In many
cases, the residual steam of the combined cycle is used to preheat the gas used.
» Unidad de calentamiento. La temperatura a la que se recibe el combustible que proviene
del gasoducto suele ser inferior a la requerida por la turbina. De hecho, en algunas
ocasiones el gas puede contener pequeñas partículas de hielo que dañarían la turbina en

Por todo ello debe disponerse de un sistema de calefacción de gas natural, que puede
ser de varios tipos: intercambiador de calor —carcasa y tubos—, calentadores eléctricos,
calentamiento indirecto por baño de agua, etc. En muchas ocasiones, se utilizará el propio
vapor residual del ciclo combinado para precalentar el combustible.

» Metering unit. The gas supplier company needs to check that flowmeters
are installed for exact flow of gas consumed for invoicing purposes. These
flowmeters can be of various types, being ultrasonic meters type the most
expensive but with the best repeatability and uncertainty parameters and
turbine meters (the cheapest) the most used meter types. This equipment is
usually specified by the gas supplier company.
It’s also needed consider that the gas is not invoiced by volume or weight
because it’s invoiced as energy (measured in kWh). Therefore, it is necessary
to know the heat value (HV) of the gas, as the flowmeter will give us only
the volume of gas that has crossed the line. For this HV a chromatograph,
properly calibrated, which is responsible for providing the data on the
composition and HV of the gas will be installed.
The measuring stages (or metering skids) for economic reasons normally will
be duplicated and this is a must requirement for the gas supplier company.
» Unidades de medida. La compañía suministradora necesita, para facturar,
que se instalen caudalímetros para conocer el caudal exacto de gas
consumido. Estos caudalímetros pueden ser de varios tipos, siendo los
ultrasónicos —más caros y precisos— o los de turbina —más económicos—
los más habituales. Estos equipos están especificados normalmente por la
compañía gasística.
Además, hay que tener en cuenta que el gas no se factura por volumen o
peso, sino que se factura como energía (medido en KWh). Por tanto, es
necesario saber cuál es el poder calorífico del gas, pues el caudalímetro
nos dará únicamente el volumen del gas que ha atravesado la línea. Para
conocer este poder calorífico se instala un cromatógrafo, debidamente
calibrado, que se encargará de aportar el dato de la composición y el poder
calorífico del gas.
Las unidades de medida (o metering skids), por motivos económicos,
siempre estarán duplicadas, siendo esto una exigencia fundamental de la
compañía que suministra el combustible.

Commissioning is the prior phase to the plant start up, when it which takes place the check up and supervision of
each element of the installation. Key elements are set up, regulated and tested in this phase: control and regulation
valves, ON/OFF valves, etc. Moreover efficiency is measured and it can be ensured that all the equipment will function
properly as per programmed procedures and requirements, whilst ensuring no emissions to the atmosphere.

1. On site survey | Análisis “in situ”
SAIDI specialized personnel will visit each customer site compiling all necessary field information to determine
exactly which is the installed product base in the customer’s plant. A number of forms are filled in reflecting all those
products that are to be included in the scope contract, their technical data (diameter, rating, connections, materials,
spare parts...), commercial information (brand, model, manufacturer...) and logistics data (consumption, minimum
stock, etc.)

será la recopilación de información de campo necesaria para determinar con exactitud cuál es la base de producto

Once the product catalog has been developed, SAIDI proposes the best suppliers and manufacturers within each
product category. Our deep knowledge of the global market allows us to locate sources of supply of proven quality,
helping end customers in the task of finding, evaluating and selecting the adequate supplier. At this point, it
should be noted that each chosen supplier has gone through all the controls stated by the internal SAIDI quality
procedures, evaluating, not only the aspects of quality of the product, but also others of great importance such as
approvals and international regulatory compliance for each industry, financial health of the supplier, manufacturing
capacity, production centres’ diversification, etc.
The objective is to minimize the risks to achieve the committed service level and the continuity of client
operations.

4. Service level | Nivel de servicio
Within the Framework Agreement that regulates each SAIDI OUTSOURCING contract, the service level required by
the customer is determined for each product within the agreed inventory.
At this point, is determined the lead time required, mode of delivery, committed stock level to be kept in Saidi
Operations Centre to meet the estimated demand, tests to be performed on the supplied material, 24x7x365 on
duty service for emergency care, means of product identification and, in short, any service the client wishes to
include under SAIDI’s management.

servicio requerido por el cliente para cada producto dentro del catálogo acordado.

To avoid inconsistencies and errors in managing the contract, the agreed product catalog contains all SKUs, both of
the customer and SAIDI. We have perfectly stored into the database all the information of each of the items: code,
description, supplier, physical dimensions, certificates, drawings, related documents, etc.
With all this information, SAIDI is ready to deploy an e-commerce gateway between our ERP and the customer
procurement management system, so purchase order transactions, delivery and invoicing can be performed
electronically.
In this way, procurement processes are streamlined, avoiding mistakes, reducing management costs and having
more control over the products purchased. This is especially important for maintenance product purchases, as they
usually are many little of low amount orders, whose management is expensive and time consuming low value added
task.
Para evitar incoherencias y errores a la hora de gestionar el contrato, el catálogo de productos contiene todos
los códigos de artículo, tanto de SAIDI como del cliente. Para ello es necesario tener perfectamente registrada la
ficha de cada uno de los artículos en la base de datos: códigos, descripciones, proveedor, dimensiones físicas,

Con toda esa información, SAIDI está en disposición de implementar una pasarela de comercio electrónico entre
su sistema de gestión y el sistema de gestión de compras del cliente, de forma que las transacciones de compra,
entrega y facturación se realicen de forma electrónica.
De esta forma, se consigue agilizar los procesos de compra evitando errores, reduciendo costes de gestión y
obteniendo un mayor control sobre los productos comprados. Esto es especialmente importante en el caso de
compras de productos de mantenimiento, como ocurre con muchos pedidos de poco importe, cuya gestión suele
ser lenta y de poco valor añadido.
6. Contract & Order Management | Gestión de contratos y pedidos
For each SAIDI OUTSOURCING contract, a back office team will be formed to work together with the client
team and which are responsible for managing, monitoring and activating the orders received from the customer
purchasing sites.
This team is also responsible for finding alternatives if necessary, technical advice, bid preparation, troubleshooting
and —in collaboration with the Operations Department—, controlling and supervising the exclusive stock for the
customer.

tight and leak free. The application incorporates a control whose aim is to monitor the overall system performance.
It provides a quick and updated view of the main connections during a plant shutdown, and of every single
connection. It is also an excellent tool for performing maintenance during preparation of plant shutdowns.
KAM is also available as a web application to which companies can subscribe, since the system allows for a small
fee per connection flange on the premises.

c. Prevent loss of steam that can be used as an energy source for other processes

Types of Steam traps | Tipos de purgadores de vapor
There are three main types of steam traps:
1. Mechanical. This type of steam traps operate on the principle of density (depending on the difference of the
specific gravity of water and steam). Mechanical steam traps’ valve opens and closes due to float movement
which rises and sinks with condensate’s flow. There are two main types: float and inverted bucket.
2. Thermostatic. Thermostatic steam traps use temperature difference between steam and condensate to operate.
They have the capacity to maintain condensate until a portion thereof is been cooled. Below a certain specific
value, the steam trap opens, releasing the condensate. There are three main types: bimetallic, expansion and
balanced pressure (bellows).
3. Thermodynamic. Thermodynamic steam traps uses thermodynamic properties of water as operating principle.
There are three main types: orifice, disc and impulse.
Existen tres tipos principales de purgadores de vapor:
1. Mecánicos. Este tipo de purgadores operan bajo el principio de gravedad específica (en función de la diferencia
del peso específico del agua y el vapor). En purgadores mecánicos, la válvula abre y cierra debido al movimiento

Like all mechanical equipment, steam traps are also subject to wear and require preventive maintenance for optimal
performance and to prevent steam leakage or blockage of the condensate discharge. To accurately diagnose the
conditions of a steam trap, you need to consult with an experienced professional who use the necessary equipment.
Como todos los equipos mecánicos, los purgadores también están sujetos a un desgaste y requieren de un
mantenimiento preventivo para su óptimo rendimiento, así como para prevenir posibles fugas de vapor o bloqueo

3. Ultrasonic testing | Inspección por ultrasonidos
We at SAIDI have skilled technical trained personnel and digital ultrasonic inspection systems that allow us to check
steam circuits to detect steam leaks or malfunctioning of steam traps.
In addition, our technical staff from our Service Centre not only reviews the trap but perform analysis of each
and every one of the related equipment (shut-off valves, check valves, etc...), optimizing your steam system and
maximizing the efficiency of the processes in order to increase energy saving.
There are several methods to inspect the correct operation of steam traps: visual analysis, temperature measurement,
measurement of sound / ultrasound or a combination of them. Ultrasound is the most effective way to detect leaks.
This is because, in leakages, most of the sound is in the ultrasonic range (above 20,000 Hz). In addition, the sound
of steam through the steam trap is very different from the sound of the condensate and “flash steam”. Being able to
recognize the difference is paramount to determine the status of the steam trap.
En SAIDI disponemos de personal debidamente formado y técnicamente capacitado así como sistemas de
inspección ultrasónica digital que nos permiten revisar circuitos de vapor para detectar posibles fugas de vapor o el
mal funcionamiento de los purgadores.
Además, nuestro personal técnico del Centro de Servicio no sólo revisará el purgador sino que realizará el análisis de
todos y cada uno de los equipos relacionados con él (válvulas de corte, retención, etc...), optimizando así su sistema
de vapor y maximizando la eficiencia de sus procesos, con el fin de incrementar el ahorro energético.
Existen varios métodos para inspeccionar el correcto funcionamiento de los purgadores de vapor: análisis visual,
medición de temperatura, medición de sonido / ultrasonido o la combinación de los anteriores. El ultrasonido es
la forma más efectiva para detectar fugas. Esto es debido a que, en las fugas la mayoría del sonido se encuentra
en el rango ultrasónico (por encima de los 20.000 Hz). Además, el sonido del vapor a través del purgador es muy
diferente del sonido del condensado y “vapor flash”. Reconocer esta diferencia es clave para determinar el estado
del purgador.

It is very common to find 30% steam leaking in an installation without a proper review of the steam traps, which leads
to enormous loss of money spent on maintaining the steam produced in the boiler and that translates into an invoice
with greater amount due to the purchase of natural gas or diesel.

We are also capable to make your valves’ integral maintenance. We have CRANE® approval for the mounting of

SAIDI has a Department staffed by a team of specialized Engineers in Control valves.
The Department is able to analyze the different processes of our customers and identify the best suitable solution
for each scenario. SAIDI is also offering our specialists services, for either training or problem solution.
SAIDI is not only capable of analyzing the problem but also to provide our customer with our best-in-class products.
Our Design Technical Office elaborates the assembly drawings in detail, the guideline to create any customized
products. Every drawing itself constitutes the instructions that our Service Centre will follow to manufacture it,
selecting, assembling and testing the final product.
SAIDI dispone de un equipo de ingenieros especializados en Válvulas de Control.
Su función principal es analizar diferentes procesos e identificar la solución más adecuada para cada escenario
particular. Nuestro Servicio de Asistencia técnica proporciona a sus clientes un conjunto de servicios que incluyen
el asesoramiento, formación así como la solución de problemas técnicos.
Además de analizar el problema, ayudamos al cliente a elegir el mejor producto de su categoría. Nuestra Oficina
de Diseño Técnico colabora diseñando los planos técnicos detallados, que son la base para la fabricación del
producto a la medida del cliente por parte de nuestro Centro de Servicios, que fabrica, ensambla, realiza los

Quality Control | Control de Calidad
Each customized product will be tested as per our internal QIP (Quality Inspection Program). We are able to perform
hydrostatic tests, leakage tests and almost any NDE (Non Destructive Examination) in the market. Once all Quality tests
are succesfully passed the valves are ready to be shipped.
Todos y cada uno de los productos fabricados a medida son probados según nuestro Programa de Inspección de
Calidad (PIC). Podemos realizar ensayos hidrostáticos, de fugas y prácticamente cualquier Ensayo No Destructivo
(END) del mercado. Una vez superadas estas pruebas de Calidad, nuestras válvulas están listas para ser enviadas al
cliente.

We specialize in the design, assembly and installation of electrical and pneumatic actuators for any valve type. Our
design engineers analyze the customer technical documentation, technical drawings and specification sheets for
a specific application to deliver the finished product that best suits the installation conditions and customer needs.
Furthermore in our technical design office we create and manufacture any kind of coupling parts defined by the
most important European and international standards applicable to the industry, backed by the best manufacturers
of valve actuators.
Our technical staff have been trained by ROTORK and other well known manufacturers for assembly, installation
and regulation of electrical actuators —for Critical and not Critical Services—, based on the specifications of the bus

Quality Control
SAIDI has one of the most important Quality Control facilities throughout Europe, as it has all the means needed
to perform a broad range of Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) on the product supplied. We can perform hydrostatic
tests on valves up to 36”. Moreover, we are able to test valves up to Class 4500. In addition to bench testing, we
are able to perform a large number of non-destructive testing as Dye Penetrant Test, Magnetic Particle Testing,
Hardness control, etc... since we have more than 70 measuring and testing equipment.
Our philosophy focuses on Quality and encourages us to move forward. For this reason we continue providing the
department of new equipment to perform other tests, among which are: Positive Material Identification (PMI) or
emissions testing (Vacuum & Low Emission).
Our technical staff is been properly trained to perform these kind of tests and are certified by independent
organizations such as the Spanish Association of Non-Destructive Testing (AEND), AIMME (Valencia Metal
Mechanic Institute) or AENOR (Spanish Association for Standardization).
Our focus on Quality reflects SAIDI capabilities in terms of customer service, with the aim to ensure the integral
performing of the product supplied.

con los medios necesarios para realizar todo tipo de Ensayos No Destructivos (END) sobre los productos que
suministramos.
Podemos realizar pruebas hidrostáticas a válvulas hasta 36”. Por otra parte, somos capaces de realizar pruebas
a válvulas hasta Clase 4500. Además de las pruebas en banco, estamos capacitados para realizar un gran número
de ensayos no destructivos como Líquidos Penetrantes, Partículas Magnéticas, Pruebas de Dureza, etc... ya
que contamos con más de 70 equipos de medición y ensayo.

Development of the Technical Services offered by KLINGER now extends from basic gasket design and
selection to more complex design and problem solving techniques, such as Finite Element Analysis. The
creation of a mathematically accurate model of a flange assembly allows more detailed variables and factors
to be included in the design of the gasket. Finite Element Analysis also takes into consideration fluctuations in
temperature and pressure and the effect they have on a joint with a gasket. The ability to create an accurate
model and subsequently apply loads in the form of pressure, bolts, thermal expansion and bending allows
many solutions to be trialled over a number of cycles, without the need for extensive, long-term testing
programmes.

We have the best means to perform Non Destructive Testing (NDT) for valves up to 36“ and Class 4500#.
Five Test Rigs —of automatic, semiautomatic and manual types— capable of testing Critical service valves (applicable
in food industry, oxygen service, etc...). A PLC Test Rig (Programmable Logic Controller) to perform hidrostatic and
pneumatic tests, leakage control, endoscopic camera, etc. supported by a computer database which allows inmediate
testing reports.
Certificates issued by independent organizations (SGS, SNT) and their corresponding technical procedures to perfom
NDT such as Dye Penetrant tests and Magnetic Particles tests.

returns to the Brine Handling area for reuse.

Chlorine gas generated in the Electrolyser is
cooled, dried and compressed. It is sent eiher to
the Hydrochloric Acid area or is liquefied and sent
to storage for sale or for downstream processes.
Caustic soda (sodium hydroxide, NaOH) is sent
to the Electrolyser and returns with a slightly
stronger concentration. A portion of this stream is
further concentrated and sent to storage.
