From the Pastor
GREETINGS FROM FR. EMILIO
I am Father Emilio Magaña and I am your new pastor. I first begin by thanking Fr. Jim Bahash for the great
work he did here at St. Charles. I am a native San Diegan. I was born in Tijuana but grew up in Spring Valley.
My home parish is St. John of the Cross, Lemon Grove. That is where I was ordained on June 1, 2007. I have
served at various parishes in the Imperial Valley and more recently at Most Precious Blood in Chula Vista. I
am the oldest of four boys. We all play guitar. Besides enjoying being a priest, I enjoy watching wrestling,
carne asada burritos and eating pizza. I look forward to our time together. Please keep me in your prayers. Be
assured of mine. God bless you!
HUMILITY: A KEY INGREDIENT IN PRAYER
Our gospel story begins with Jesus stressing the importance of prayer. Then he gives the example of a heartless
judge. I think it’s safe to say that the judge in today’s gospel was lacking humility. Since our passage is about
prayer, what we see in today’s gospel is a story of what not to do: be prideful. Pride is one of the seven capital
sins. When we relate them to prayer, pride becomes an obstacle. Pride
is in direct competition with humility. Pride is something we can do
without. There is good pride like when we say we are proud of someone. But that is not the case in today’s gospel. May our prayer today
be to ask Jesus for a humble heart.
– Fr. Emilio
A Prayer for Priests
Lord Jesus, we your people pray to You for our priests. You have given them to us for OUR needs. We pray for them in
THEIR needs.
We know that You have made them priests in the likeness of your own priesthood. You have consecrated them, set them
aside, anointed them, filled them with the Holy Spirit, appointed them to teach, to preach, to minister, to console, to forgive, and to feed us with Your Body and Blood.
Yet we know, too, that they are one with us and share our human weaknesses. We know too that they are tempted to sin
and discouragement as are we, needing to be ministered to, as do we, to be consoled and forgiven, as do we. Indeed, we
thank You for choosing them from among us, so that they understand us as we understand them, suffer with us and rejoice with us, worry with us and trust with us, share our beings, our lives, our faith.
We ask that You give them this day the gift You gave Your chosen ones on the way to Emmaus: Your presence in their
hearts, Your holiness in their souls, Your joy in their spirits. And let them see You face to face in the breaking of the Eucharistic bread.
We pray to You, O Lord, through Mary the mother of all priests, for Your priests and for ours. Amen.

– P. Emilio
Oración Diaria por los Sacerdotes
O Jesús, Te ruego por tus fieles sacerdotes. Por tus tibios e infieles sacerdotes; Por tus sacerdotes que están con nosotros o en tierra de misiones. Por los sacerdotes que son tentados; Por los sacerdotes abandonados y en soledad;
pecados;
